Springing Forth with Bohemian Elegance
Karlovy Vary owes its affluent grandeur to no fewer than 13 hot springs and a warm water river. Add to this its colourful façades and tree-lined hill setting, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of Europe’s most sophisticated spa towns.
The best views are from the Deer Leap and Diana Tower lookouts, both high above the Grandhotel Pupp, a famous 5-star hotel which starred as James Bond’s gambling retreat in ‘Casino Royale’. It also hosts an International Film Festival, but the city is really about the waters, a fact reflected in its English name – Carlsbad.
You can take the waters at the 5 springs under the Mill Colonnade, and the wrought-iron Market Colonnade houses 2 more. The Park Colonnade employs a similarly impressive style to protect 3 springs, while a geyser bursts up in the Hot Spring Colonnade. The Castle Tower overlooks the Castle Colonnade waters, and a thermal pool at Spa Hotel Thermal overlooks the city.
The beautiful churches of Karlovy Vary include the Russian-styled Church of St Peter and St Paul. The Moser Glassworks produce suitably high quality products, and the Jan Becher Museum provides an idea of what to fill them with – local Becherovka bitter.

Fantastisk by som jeg har besøkt 6 ganger.
Fantastisk by som jeg har besøkt 6 ganger. Mange byer har gamlebyer, som Praha og Krakow, men dette er virkelig en egen by ute på landet inne i en trang dal der du blir hensatt til tysklignende byer fra 1920-taller ,og biltrafikken er fjernet nesten helt. Også ustressede turister 35-80 år rundt deg, som er folk i en alder som virkelig kan nyte det stille bylivet,en spasertur og en kaffe på kafeen.. Du når overalt du trenger med 1 til 2 km gåing tur/retur. Man kan også ta bussen til nabolandsbyen og slottet Loket 15 min unna,som er helt trolsk,og var location for James Bond (sammen med Karlovy Vary) i Casino Royale. Filmfolkene fikk mye for filmrullene! Karlovy Vary er stedet der folk har funnet igjen energien og livslysten i 300 år, og funker fremdeles.ikandaNorge
