We stayed in Port Alberni as a stopover on our short vacation to the coast; accordingly, it is difficult to assess/review the town. I met one lovely couple while banking and was greatly impressed by their friendliness and willingness to help a total stranger.

Port Alberni is relatively easy to get around.
Port Alberni is relatively easy to get around. Lovely hiking spots and parks. Great sports areas. On the beautiful ocean inlet, with fabulous views. A variety of shops and restaurants. The gateway to the wild west coast. First Nations cultural experiences available.
I would not forget my cell phone charger so that getting around might be even easier with GPS.
My favourite was going on a dog walk with my hosts along a lovely wild path by a stream with waterfall and a beautiful kingfisher.

Staff smoke in the lobby
Staff smoke in the lobby
They bring their children to work and children are constantly pulling the fire alarms
Rude service some staff were nice though
Maid did not ever clean the rooms
No more breakfast
Broken vending machines
Not safe for children
Fire hazard as there’s no cover on fire place
And the laundry shoot door is always open a child could fall through that
Over priced for what they provide
Not impressed and the location is filled with drug addicts and homeless people
Maids steal your medication too
Poor service all on all

We enjoyed the activities at the Harbour Quay.
We enjoyed the activities at the Harbour Quay. Farmer's market, evening music and evening strolls along the water while enjoying small shop products. Great restaurants and cafes to choose from. Our favourites: Boomerang Cafe and Bare Bones (platter for two) . Bamfield trip by boat. Sproat lake swimming. Stamp River Provincial park where we saw the salmon going up the waterfalls and bears coming around. ( we learned from a native family at the river to clap loudly, everyone clapping with whatever you had at hand, to get the big black bear approaching to run away). We found people were very friendly and would always greet you. Many cafes and places we did not have time to go to are in our calendar for next time around. Beware restaurants close early in Port Alberni so check closing times before heading out to eat. Overall, great memories of Port Alberni.

We did a few local hikes like the Hole in the Wall and Cathedral Grove. Our hosts recommended another one we did in the morning called Little Qualicum Park where they had views of the upper and lower falls. We visited a brewery and took in the beautiful scenery. Impressed with the stores they had, didn’t know Port Alberni was so big! Would definitely recommend travellers check out this nice place on the island!
Beautiful property located just outside of Port Alberni. The house was incredibly cozy, well stocked with a full kitchen and dishwasher. The main bedroom faces the mountains, treating you to an amazing view each morning. The bed in the master suite is quite possibly the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on, it was like sleeping on a cloud! :)
Moni the host was very gracious and friendly, as well as very quick and communicative leading up to our arrival! Will definitely be staying here again!
The location of the hotel was easy to find, just along the road to tofino. The hotel was very nice and the front desk manager was very nice and gave us a lot of travel advice to tofino. Thank you very much. The staff were all very kind. The room amenities were also nice and it was quiet to sleep at night. We were tired from driving all day but had a good night's sleep. Highly recommended. A great place to stop and rest for a trip to tofino!
our room was spacious and comfortable.
Hummingbird Guesthouse is how I originally imagined the World of AirB&B- you get the feeling that you are staying in a home rather than a guesthouse.
we couldn’t find anywhere to stay in Tofino area so settled on Port Alberni and opted to drive.
it worked out well for us. the house is already on the pacific rim highway out of town and it’s an easy drive for Tofino or Ucluelet.
This motel might look a bit old from the outside, but inside the room was very clean.
The staff is very nice, and the motel includes also a japanese restaurant.
The price for the room was 50% of the avg price we had during the rest of our trip in BC/Alberta : the BEST deal we had during the whole trip !
The motel is located just at the entrance of the city
Nearby you can a small walk to the "Hole in the Wall"
Bill and Milly are incredibly accommodating and friendly people, who will tell you about all the best spots to eat, hike and other hidden gems. Bill prepared a healthy homemade breakfast every morning, and even made each of us a homemade soap to take home! The place itself is spacious and clean and has a beautiful view of the water, and is in walking distance of all the best restaurants in town!
If you like ships and the sea, this is a must to go place. Very special. The hosts are very kind and make you feel very welcomed. Very good and freshly cooked breakfast. Even though it´s not a bargain, compared to the prices in Tofino it´s still very good value for money and you can easy go for and back to the coast on the same day. Don´t expect the sapce of a 5star hotel, it´s a ship ;-).....
The worst place to stay. When we came to the hotel, we made a mistake on booking and in stead of trying to help to solve the problem, the owner was so angry and super mad. The solution was from her side to charge 7 months baby and 3.5 years old boy 100$ extra per night for the same room which we booked. There were no changes just extra charges.
The hosts were extremely nice, personable, and hospitable, made you feel well taken care of. The B&B&B (Bed & Breakfast & Boat) was very cool, a unique experience with both world history or personal passion built into it. Gem of Port Alberni for sure; highly recommend for a stay or dining.
The accommodation is beautiful, very clean, large and tastefully decorated. The location is perfect, nice and quiet and only 10 minutes from Port Alberni. The breakfast was delicious and the two hostesses are incredibly friendly and helpful.
We got a ground floor room so access to our vehicle was amazing. We have a 1 year old and it wasn’t an issue at all, rooms are soundproof and the motel is family friendly. We might just like Motels better now for family trips.
Newly updating hotel. The room is clean and quiet for a good stay and sleeping. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Flexible location also for trip to Tofino (about 1 hour driving). Definitely will come back!
Char was very communicative leading up to the stay! It's pretty cute and pretty comfortable. If you're on Port Alberni for some reason, would recommend staying here
