Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is not only a city of history, but also a romantic place
to visit. The city is full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.
The Gravensteen or 'Castle of the Count' is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent (known as Gent in Flemish).
Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the 'noses'.

Ghent in general is a beautiful city. The city center that is. Lots of historical area's and buildings. Very friendly people, nice restaurants and nice bars. One of my favorite city's in Belgium.
The big advantage of the city center in Ghent is that it is compact and all at walking distance.
I did a city walk and passed most of the historical high lights of Ghent.
Nice bars to try are the "Dreupelkot" (specialized in jenevers) and the "Dulle Griet". Be warare that if you drink the beer "Max" you will be without 1 shoe for some time.

Amazing and charming medieval city.
Amazing and charming medieval city. If you plan on walking, wear excellent thick-soled walking shoes, the cobblestones are gorgeous, but HUGE, and can be super-slippery if it rains. Save your "high heels" for another time.

Small but amazing town with more that plenty to see and do. No matter how long is the trip, it is always at least one day too short. Beautiful city and history, awesome restaurants and atmosphere. Cant wait for the next trip back.

It's a lovely city with plenty to see and lots of great bars to eat and drink. Belgian beer is well known, of course, but the wine is decent enough too, and there are plenty of restaurants of all nationalities to choose from. We ate Indian, Italian and Lebanese, as well as the obligatory frites for lunch of course! Good coffee and pastries / chocolates too naturally! Take a reasonably priced tour on a boat, definitely visit the castle, and also get a 24-hour tram ticket for unlimited travel to see the outskirts (and discover more bars!) and, if you time it right, you can use it to get it back to the train station the next day.

Ghent has everything you could possibly want.
Ghent has everything you could possibly want. Culture, history, entertainment, hospitality, sport & relaxation, nature, exploration and discovery. It combines a local, historical attitude with an internationally minded atmosphere and is inclusive and tolerant towards all who choose to coexist peacefully.
Additionally, Ghent is the perfect homebase for visits to other places all over Europe. It is more affordable than the major capitals, offers more peace and quiet while still providing everything you could want. In aproximately 3 hours in either direction you are within reach of a vast number of major cities in Europe.
We stayed at Van der Valk in Gent while travelling through Belgium with a 6 months old baby.
We anxiously chose this hotel for its proximity to major roads and the size of the rooms to make the stay comfortable for both us and our daughter.
It was PERFECT!! The staff was accommodating, the facilities were great. We got help with sterilising bottles and we all had a fab night sleep.
Breakfast was a winner!!
Thank you so much!
The building was renovated recently and was well-appointed but also kept a lot of old-world charm. The location was ideal for exploring the old town of Ghent. The room was large and the artwork throughout the hotel was unique and interesting. A salon with comfortable furnishings and an outdoor terrace provided nice communal spaces to relax. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and featured tasty homemade cakes and jams.
We had been on a bit of a tour of Belgium by the time we reached Violet Suites so can truly say, this was our favourite of many hotels. The room was beautiful and comfortable and the host offered many treats to guests including complementary breakfast items and snacks. We were made to feel very welcome. The property is just a short walk from the main attractions in Gent, on a nice quiet street.
Everything was to like about this beautiful hotel, with profesisonal and caring staff, perfect location and excellent facilities. This is truly a hotel I would visit again and again. The breakfast was top notch, staff never said no for anything to accommodate us and our kids. Its a great place to explore the whole of belgium and of course the beautiful and charming city of Ghent.
We were blown away by our room - and by the service received from Dante. I asked for a room with a nice bit of character and charm due to the fact that it was our first time travelling in Belgium, and our room was incredible. Dante went above and beyond to provide us with an excellent experience, and I will recommend the Mansion to anyone I know travelling to Ghent!
This hotel is just around the corner from the Gent-Sint-Pieters Train Station and tram to city centre. The owner is fantastic - friendly, helpful, and made us feel welcome! He gave us directions to walk to city centre (around 30 minute walk or a quick tram ride) and highlights of Ghent to see. We loved the charm and architecture of the building. The value was good.
The location is perfect, you can walk into the centre of Ghent (20mins or so) along some pretty canals. The breakfast buffet was great. The hotel has an underground car park which is very convenient. The garden outback opens up into a stunning public park, where you can walk the dog on a lead. It was perfect.
We enjoyed out stay.
The apartment was well organized and it felt like we had space even though the place was small. Everything was clean and the area was very calm, by a river in the surroundings if Ghent. Since Belgium is an expensive country I felt that the price of this place was worthy.
The unit is spacious for 2 persons and it's clean.
It has a huge bathroom.
The hotel is 1km walk from the city center.
Not bad for younger travellers.
The breakfast is okay--- cereals, croissants, breads, fruits, milk, yogurt, butters and cheeses.
The Comic Art Hotel is a newly refurbished hotel within easy walking distance to Gravensteen Castle and many of the most popular eating and tourist attractions in Ghent. Staff was exceptionally good at recommending places and in making us feel at home.
Excellent, centrally located, reasonably priced hotel in Ghent, about a 15 minute tram ride from Gint St. Pieters train station.. Staff was professional, courteous, and informative. We would stay there again.
Hotel was nice, but as there was a festival starting the next day they didn't have the restaurant and bar open, which was strange, it would have been nice to know we may have went elsewhere in belgium
Location was great, walking distance to any attractions you need,
Keep in mind that the hotel is in old building so if you have luggage it will be difficult for you to get to the room
The view from the dorm was something to be expected from a 5 star hotel and the location is perfect. Everything was pretty clean and they gave us nice little chocolates on arrival.
The location of this hotel is PERFECT for all things you may want to do in Ghent. Its an adorable trendy hotel within walking distance to everything. Highly recommend.
Staff excellent, good breakfast, perfect location: near train station with a Tram stop in front of hotel to ride to Ghent monuments. Great experience at Hotel.
