We loved almost everything about this place. We were looking for somewhere quiet and secluded with amazing views. And we couldn’t have found anywhere better on all three counts. Idyllic.

L'Essence Arenal est un hôtel écologique entouré par la forêt tropicale qui offre un centre de bien-être aux touristes. It rained quite a bit while we were there, but the tent held up nicely and we never had any problems with water. Even though it didn't seal up as well as a normal tent, we also didn't have any issues with bugs. Sadly, we never were able to catch the volcano during our stay in it's full glory, but the view of both the volcano and the lake are unbeatable. The property itself is quite large and had a nice short hike through the jungle to visit the farm on location. The staff was incredibly helpful and pleasant, both from the hotel and the restaurant. We had breakfast both days we stayed plus an "Essence Arenal Happy Meal" packed lunch for our day of hiking. The food was always fresh and delicious - they mentioned that most (maybe all?) of it comes from their own farms. The restaurant really had a family atmosphere and you feel at home. The common area with hot tub just outside was nice and we ended up meeting and hanging out with some great people there. Though it's not a hostel, it definitely had that kind of feel to it from a social aspect. The shared refrigerator was good to have as well. We also were able to borrow some plastic wine glasses from the restaurant for one night.

The place is very well integrated in the nature and environment, very beautiful and relaxing. Many activities included in the price which kept us busy for 2 days (farm tour, yoga, pools). Very professional, friendly and polite staff made our stay even more enjoyable. Very good eat-as-you-want meals. We were picked up at the bus stop in La Fortuna which was very helpful.
