My partner and I were in the area to attend an event and decided to stay at the Gifford Risley House. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of our stay, from the impeccable attention to the decorative details throughout the house to the quality of the breakfasts served and the outstanding hospitality provided to us by Monika and Z. The breakfasts were delicious-- both consisting of multiple courses of food, including Eggs Benedict on our final morning. Monika and Z were so friendly and accommodating to us, which made all the difference. We stayed in the Queen Anne Room and it was more than comfortable and beautifully decorated. The B&B is just a few blocks from downtown Media, which is full of restaurants and shops.

The common spaces and decoration is really something else, with special care given to collecting and arranging furniture for a library and living room matching the manor's era. I came during the winter but Harrisburg in general and this area especially should be pretty and green. The real outstanding thing about my stay was the hospitality and helpfulness of the people that run this place. They really wanted to buy some cool manors and renovate them to show them off to guests and the dedication to making their guests safe and comfortable is really 20 stars!

Roost is an unexpected treasure in the city of Brotherly Love. It is clean, well-designed, and the decor is minimal and tasteful. The kitchen is amazing--Fisher-Paykel fridge and gas range, Bosch DW, washer/dryer, and Mom's Organic Foods across the street--I was tempted to stay forever. Also there's a heated pool (yes, people were swimming in January!) and a great gym. Great neighborhood with so many restaurants for take-out and delivery. A short walk to Reading Terminal Market, which has gotten too touristy, but still has good meats and fish, and some produce, but Mom's was really the best, and close by--a locally-owned Whole Foods type place. We were there for a stay at Jefferson U. Hospital, which is a block away, and a safe walk day or night, so it's a wonderful location for a visiting family member. Seems like many doctors stay at Roost. There are two others in the city. And affordable--cheaper than any of the major hotels. For an extended stay, it can't be beat. Everyone is masked and safe. The historic nature of the house was respected and enhanced. Liz is a treasure! Her cooking was excellent (special mention to the french toast and the lemon slice) and she made us feel very welcome.
