Hiroshi the owner, and Yasu went above and beyond to make our quick stay enjoyable. This countryside home is very relaxing and met all of my expectations. Biking to the lake was unforgettable. It was the traditional experience we hoped for and was cozy and wonderful. We felt like very welcome guests at this amazing guest home! We will be back!

Situato in una ex residenza di mercanti locali, l'Inase Otsu Machiya Bed and Breakfast si trova a Otsu, a 700 m dal Tempio Mii-dera. Tutte le camere sono dotate di TV a schermo piatto. Loved our stay here - even changed our plans to stay an extra day. The guesthouse is only 20 minutes from Kaito, with a direct train running to Otsu. The guesthouse was so authentic - with a lovely zen garden. The breakfast is a must - we had a traditional Japanese breakfast with salmon, rice and associated condiments. The staff were wonderful - made so many great recommendations - a fabulous local restaurant - great food and amazingly friendly staff. And suggested we go to the beach (on the lake) for a very chilled day. And even dropped us at the train.

You have a very great view of the lake. Room is very spacious. It's our first time as well to stay at a traditional Japanese room, wear yukata and it was a great experience. Excellent dinner and breakfast. They can pick you up at the train station which is very convenient.

We booked this property with a bit of hesitation as there were very few reviews on booking.com and we didn’t regret it a second! It is in a very peaceful residential area, quiet, restful night’s sleep is guaranteed which was very important to us. The house is warm and cosy as we had a bit of a cold weather it was important. We felt at home and had a great base to explore the city of Kyoto, Otsu and all the surrounding area. There’s everything you would need in a household and more. There’s also a nice garden which we couldn’t use due to the cold weather. The owner is a very sweet attentive lady and a great host who took care of every single need of us, so that we felt like staying in a friend’s house. With or without car this accommodation is a great choice to escape the crowds of Kyoto and yet be in 25 min distance to downtown Kyoto. We stayed there for 10 days and explored the whole area. I cannot recommend Sayo’s place enough! I would love to come again sometime.

I had a very relaxing and quiet time in an authentic Japanese house in the countryside. After returning from Biwaichi Cycling, we took a nap on the tatami mats and enjoyed BBQ in the garden for dinner. At night it was a pleasure to see fireflies in the brook just nearby. It looks like it can accommodate a few more people. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Offering a garden and quiet street view, Guesthouse Shin is located in Omihachiman, 38 km from Sanzen-in Temple and 39 km from Mount Hiei. My wife and I are not young folks anymore. The trip to the bathroom during the night was somewhat difficult for us. The bedroom was on the upper floor in the lovely traditional Japanese house. The narrow stairway was challenging for us. There is ample room downstairs and perhaps owners would accommodate a request to put the bedding there.

Situated in Nagahama, in a historic building, 14 km from Hikone Castle, Hitoiki is a recently renovated ryokan with a garden and terrace. Prenotato quasi a caso in un viaggio itinerante, si è rivelato un posto magnifico. Nuovissimo, super spazioso. In un quartiere storico bellissimo che la mattina dopo abbiamo visitato con grande gioia. Silenzioso la notte e con un comodo parcheggio riservato nelle vicinanze.
