Set in Sado, Rosencat offers accommodation with free private parking. Featuring a garden, the 1-star farm stay has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. This was such a lovely place to stay. The owner is really nice and speaks English fairly well. The room was large and very comfortable. Had our own heating and cooling. There is a communal living room that has a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, tv, karaoke machine and games you can play. There is a lot of maps and pamphlets you can look through with information about the area. Bathroom is large and clean. The cats are adorable and can’t wait to come and say good morning to you.

Providing free WiFi throughout the property, Noka Minshuku Sanzen is situated in Tokamachi. The farm stay has ski storage space. The weather was very cold but we were very warmed by the hospitality of our hosts - Takeshi San and Yoshiko San, their daughter Nobu San, and their cute cat Mamezo Chan. Dinner was an authentic Japanese dining experience that brought the farm to the table. The traditional Japanese setup, with a massive boiling iron kettle over a firepit, adds a unique charm to the experience. The food was exquisite, beautifully presented and delicious. They have 2 units available. First is a family room which is part of the main building where the hosts live and where the meals are prepared and served. The traditional Japanese design of the room, coupled with the proximity to the heart of the guest house, contributed to a truly authentic experience. The Second unit is a three bedroom house. The furnishings and design are more modern and whimsical, almost studio Ghibli like. My favorite was actually the long hammock on the topmost floor which became my personal sanctuary haha. I left with a heavy heart because this was an unforgettable experience which will be very difficult to replicate.

The onsen and private onsen was so amazing and magical. Also the view from my room was amazing because it was snowing and everything about this property was magical.

Only 4-5 min walk from the west exit of the Echigo-Yuzawa station. There are lots of shops and restaurants in the same street.

This place had everything that we wanted like cookwares, basic seasonings. Only ingredients were needed. We could watch Netflix with 5.1 speaker. The bathtub was enough big. I smelled the water hot spring but not sure it was. Room was so clean and great atmosphere. The owner and his wife were nice too.

Set in Akakura and only 32 km from Zenkoji Temple, Myoko Apartments offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. Stunning apartment with everything we needed for a great week skiing. Lots of great advice and help from Nathan and Akiko in organising our trip. Skiing at all resorts was great and having a hire car from Nagano made getting around easy. Ikenotaira was the pick of the resorts for our mostly intermediate collection of skiers and snowboarders. Self catering was easy and fun.

Old house with not simply vintage style but real details. Love all the furniture and the wood stove at first sight. Nobu welcomed us with some nice herbal tea. She speaks fluent English and we had some nice conversations. She also recommended and gave us a ride to a nice public bath. What we cherished most is the special visit to Mr. Kawanaka, the local artist. It’s our pleasure to meet him and appreciate his artwork. Truly memorable journey. Thank you!

-izen 高田- 柳精庵, a property with a garden, is set in Joetsu, 6.9 km from Joetsumyoko Station, 8.5 km from Naoetsu Station, as well as 8.8 km from Kasugayama Shrine. The property manager Natsumi-san was very very helpful when my nephew left his toy behind. Also, love the experience of living in a house with lots of history. The garden was very pretty and well maintained. The futon is not thin, so it was a comfortable sleep for us foreigners.
