An exceptional ryokan, very helpful staff, upon arrival we received a yukata (traditional Japanese clothing) and they even allowed us to go out with the yukata for a walk in the city. Very good breakfast (Japanese or European style to choose from) The staff went out of their way to accommodate the vegetarian/gluten free meal. Onsen is very spacious, and you can also order a hot pool for private use.

An incredible location, nearby all the most important attractions, with a great view to Miyagawa river. Although it is shared bathroom, it feels very private and calm. The family that owns the ryokan is friendly, thoughtful and welcoming.

The house was easy to find and very clean and comfortable. It is a great base from which to explore the surrounding Japanese Alps. We rented a car at the train station (International driver's license required) and used it to explore the thatched-roof farmhouses in Shirakawa-go village and nearby waterfalls and a scenic cable car ("ropeway") up into the mountains.
