A traditional East Sussex inn in the South Downs, Ye Olde Smugglers Inne dates back to the 14th century and retains plenty of its original character. A cosy fireside bar and restaurant complement the bespoke rooms, which all benefit from free Wi-Fi.

For hikers arriving after a 25 km slog along the South Downs Way, the Inne is a veritable paradise. We started sitting down with a pint of good Sussex ale to refuel our weary legs before ascending the stairs to our room. The room was spacious and clean and with good beds. Then we had a wonderful meal (with Sussex ale) in the charming pub. Alfriston is a beautiful and quiet town, and we slept like babies. We felt welcome and have no complaints!

The home was beautifully clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed The hot tub and decking were perfectly secluded. Everything was comfortable and spacious and we could drive the car right up to the front door to park and unload. Both neighbouring homes seemed to be privately owned making for a very quiet and peaceful stay. Price was just right too. We're glad we opted for the Selby as the extra en suite and dressing room was a real bonus and there was plenty of hanging space in both rooms.

The house is very quiet, down a private lane easily accessed from the main road. It is secluded and the views of rural Sussex from the windows across fields and trees are a pleasure. The care and thought gone into ensuring that all needs are catered for is amazing. The breakfast was first class and included eggs from own chickens, sausages from local butchery, and a selection of cereals, juices, toasts etc beyond the norm. The room was well provided with teas, coffees etc and fresh milk in a fridge on the landing.
