The owner was friendly and very helpful. As there were no other guests, she kindly gave us our choice of rooms which we appreciated, We chose one overlooking the road but the only sounds we heard were of cowbells as they lulled us to sleep! There was a large common room with a kettle and plenty of tables and chairs to drink tea, play cards pr just relax. Our room was prettily decorated with matching pillows and bedspread and oodles of space including two chairs. What a shame we only had the one night to stay.

We stayed 2 nights beginning of June. If you like traditional places, you should visit Waldgasthaus Lehmen. You would be surrounded by natural forest with a view on Appenzell Alps. One of the most common sound during the day is various bells on cow necks. We were lucky to see how Appenzell farmers bring their cows to the mountains. The farmers have very beautiful cloths! On Saturday we saw a group of farmers, who came in their traditional dresses to Lehmen restaurant and had a few hours of singing and enjoying food. The restaurant is very good, if you like Swiss food. You must be hiking in that region, otherwise food might be too heavy. I had pork steak, pork schnitzel and beef steak with noodles and mushrooms. All dishes were very tasty. You have to try local beer! And Lehmen whisky! Highly recommended! Very nice! Service is impeccable, fast and attentive. All personnel is very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful! I would prefer, if it started at 7 instead of 8… Our room 17 was great, soft pillows, comfy beds, bath, simple but cozy design. The hotel has a playground for kids. Parking is huge.

Beautiful styling and the Easter decorations were gorgeous. Host Lukas was so helpful and welcoming. The breakfast is fabulous, local cheese and meats and the excellent home made bircher muesli was a treat.
