This is a big charming, wooden house unlike anything else we saw in Bukit Lawang. It’s beautiful and has a lot of character. The location is great, up many stairs but it’s worth it. Close to nearby restaurants and ‘Jack’s Bar’ which we loved for live music and awesome cocktails in a real jungle setting. The staff are so lovely and helped us with everything we needed, they organised a trek into the jungle for us and a day trip to their conservation site where we saw lots of orangutans. Banana pancakes for breakfast were so delicious too, thank you Ridho! Highly recommend staying here!

Kupu Kupu Garden is nestled amidst the jungle, directly beside the river. It's approximately a 15-minute walk to town (30 minutes from the car drop-off point). Our room featured a balcony and a hammock, providing a delightful spot for relaxation for all of us.

Breakfast was based on a choice of five menus. The fruit platter was better than any 5 star hotel! Pancakes were great. Omelette very good.

Jhonny and his family/crew are some of the warmest genuine people I have ever met, their level of customer service goes beyond anything I have ever experienced. Nothing was any problem and if there were any issues they were addressed immediately. The crew will look after all you needs from cooking delicious breakfasts to fabulous local lunch's and dinners from the extensive menu. The organised tours be it trekking/bat caves/local village tours are first rate, with a huge special mention to my "Jungle Brother" Rasta, who is not only a knowledgeable and great guide, but a fantastic and witty bloke and we shall remain friends via social media until our return. The accommodation is 5 stand alone huts which contain everything you need and a food/bar area, on three occasions in the week we were there an Orangutan dropped by for a visit (mind blowing) not to mention the 8+ we saw during our day trek with Rasta. Bukit Lawang us a wonderful town and not as touristic as other places in Indonesia. The communication with the people from rain forest guest house was easy and fast and they helped us to organize a bus to Medan, a hostel there and they also organize jungle Trekkings. the staff was really nice, the food was great and the atmosphere was very familiar. Perfect location for backpackers!

Alek and Nabil are really great hosts who are Bukit Lawang's second best feature after the orangutans! The balcony has a lovely view out over the river and the location is perfect in amongst the locals.
