Nampula (2 miles from Nampula Airport)
Set within 2.2 km of Estádio do Nampula in Nampula, Ruby - Casa de Hospedes - Backpackers features a garden and a bar, as well as free WiFi throughout the property. Honestly I wasn't expecting a nice hostel in Nampula, but Rubys surprised me. Electric-heated showers ensure hot water any time of day. The tents that contain the bunks are quite clean and seal well enough to keep out mosquitos. The bathroom is also very clean and all the water worked. Staff were also super nice and took me to the train at 4am (!!)

Nampula is a busy city in the north of Mozambique , not to stay as tourist, but great opening to beautiful beaches and cultural areas. I recommend Seasons Hotel if you have an ok budget, Residencia Universal look also good. I don't recommend Hotel Afshin that let you out of room at arrival (after you pay for taxi until there) neither City Hotel where room are cheap but dirtiy (dirty sheet , unwashed floor and dirty bathroom with black mushroom on the tiles) For restaurant: we only ate at Season Hotel (good indian and sushi) and Tia Maria (excellent portuguese). Price of taxi from airport to city centre is about 300 mz (July 19)
For me it was just a necessary stopover after flight from Maputo on my way to Ilha da Mocambique. It didn't look like a place to come for any tourist reason, but there were striking dramatic karst type hills outside.
Sorry to say but Nampula city is not my favourite town in Mozambique. Had nice dinners at Copacabana and Sporting. But being a white foreigner, female, doesnt really seem to be ok. Too many strange comments at the street. I walked, it is easy, and made some shopping. The museum is worth of seeing. One should also go to the art craft place behind the museum. Great work. Those artisans are fantastic.
It was just a normal work trip. There are many nice restaurants in the town, and you can easily walk or take a taxi. Responding to this questionnaire seems to be more for foreigners but I wonder how many tourists are there in Nampula really.. I think the travelers are mostly local people on work trips. I didnt have any time during this trip to see much of the town. See question 4. below. It is completely irrelevant. Golf? Triathlons? Mexican food?? Come on!
