Featuring 5 different Japanese baths, traditional foods and 2 saunas, Jomon no Yado Manten is just 656 feet from Yakushima Airport and a 45-minute drive from the Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine. The location couldn't be better, it is literally across the street from the airport. Bus stops are very plentiful nearby and the hotel staff is very well versed in showing you exactly which buses you need to get to your destination on the island. They are able to call taxis for you if necessary as well. All around wonderful location and very helpful staff!

A 3-minute walk from Yakushima Airport, Tomarigi offers a bunk in a dorm room, a garden with a hammock and free Wi-Fi. Tomarigi is a little up the hill from the Yakshima airport and thus extremely well connected with bus and airplane. I came with the ferry and took the bus there. It was the only option left for me and I expected a cheap dorm house, but it is so wonderful and you can really feel the love that went into the buidling. It is a small, one story building, everything is made of wood and decorated with lots of personality. There are thousands of japanese Manga to read and great information about all the destinations. The entrance room has 18 bunk beds in it, but they are very comfortable. The owner is a lovely lady who brings people together and feels more like a mother than the owner. The atmosphere at Tomarigi is something I didn't expect: People talk to each other, cook together, and share their stories. I did not expect to find new friends there. But it seems that some people visit Tomarigi regularly because they love to meet new people (as well as old friends) and the beautiful nature of Yakushima is just a nice plus. The house also has some games that we played. The kitchen area is outside. You can also camp in the garden with our own tent. Two cats live there, but I never saw them inside. For my day trip to the forest the owner made me very delicious Onigiri, which were super thick and filling. Oh, and it is not a place where only foreigners go. When I was there, we were 3 foreigners and 6 Japanese guests. So it is loved by Japanese as well.

The host was very kind, spoke perfect English and went out of his way to help us — making several calls for us. The cottage is extremely spacious and has a full kitchen. We loved our stay here and wish we could have stayed longer!

At Cottage Morinokokage, guests can rent out a cottage with a hammock. Free WiFi is available in the guest rooms. Everything. Was as described. Very good communication. Owner arranged a good value rental car for me. Lovely comfortable little cottage. Quiet and relaxing. Loved itv

Yakushima Minsyuku Suginoko offers accommodations in Yakushima, 16 miles from Shiratani Unsuikyo and 18 miles from Jomon Sugi. The property was in a great location with easy access to some of the best restaurants on the island. I have been to Japan 5 times and, while I have stayed with many hosts that I enjoyed, Ayumi was the only host to offer to make dinner reservations for me which I thought was amazing. Every time we were in the common area she was there with us, having fun, and making an effort to keep us entertained. We loved her personality. The rooms were comfortable and we appreciated that the property was on it's own and outside of town. When you open the windows, you can hear the sound of nature without the rushing of cars/scooters. Each room comes with its own bathroom which is great as well. Each day we received bento boxes which is such a nice touch! It's hard to find time to stop the days events to get some food and with these we could eat on the go which we loved.

A 3-minute drive from Ambo Harbor, Yakushima Green Hotel offers Japanese-style and Western rooms with ocean views. I liked the location because it was convenient to three different hiking areas. I had a sea view room which was clean and comfortable. The nightly dinners allowed me to sample many Japanese delicacies. Staff adapted well to my minimal Japanese language skills and were helpful in areas I needed help. There was good parking space for my rental car and it was convenient to a grocery store.
