Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early.

Most restaurants around Nikko Stations close early. Only a few are open after 7 pm. Beyond Central Nikko or in outer Nikko/ Oku-Nikko there are are more interesting scenic hiking trails and sightseeing spots. Need to plan as bus frequencies are affected by weather and waiting time can be long.

We visited quite a few places during our two week stay in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and then we took a two day bike ride from Imabari to Onomichi). Nikko was the most beautiful of the beautiful places we visited. Took a bus ride up the hill and hiked in the forest which boasts two types of bear, deer and monkeys. The temple was beautiful and we enjoyed trying local food. We each had a "Yuba set" at a local restaurant.

The rooms were freezing cold no heating and it was -5 inside the hotel. They provided us with one thin blanket nothing like advertised, the windows were open and unable to close. We are having to seek medical help as one of my friends has developed hypothermia. No food no drink and the toilet facility does not flush. Said in advert the beds would be made up for us. After a vicious scolding by the owners wife we had to awkwardly make up our own beds with no instructions at all. If you like being shouted at, sleeping on a solid cold floor with a stone for a pillow this is definitely the place for you. Didn't really wanna even give the one star but no choice for 0*.

Nikko is a lovely small place. The local Chinese on the high street has amazing food, it has a very small door and would be easy to miss, but make the effort to find it. The temples are amazing, but I loved the mountains, if you like trekking then you will love Nikko.

Fabulous place to visit with the right balance between nature walks and temple and shrine visits. Our favorite visits were Toshogu and Rinno-ji Temples, a day trip to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls with a walk towards the Italian and English Embassy residences was beautiful. If you still have time, the Imperial Tomozawa Villa is worth spending a couple of hours at. We did everything by bus and it was very well organised. Train station has convenient coin lockers for luggage and a Yamato counter to deliver your luggage at your hotel so you can start visiting without being troubled.

i loved the variety of hiking trails - there was no shortage of beautiful nature. there are populated trails and quieter trails, and the bus service was very convenient once i got the hang of it. while the shrines were pretty enough, i preferred the rinnoji shrine gardens and would have preferred to spend more time hiking instead of fighting with the crowds at toshugu shrine. senjogahara was stunning and i would have liked to spend more time at the yumoto and kirifuri trails. october was a little early for autumn leaves, so maybe i will return later in the year next time. that said, it was a pity i just missed the shrine festival this year!

    - Onsen is the best part and the signature part of the ryokan style hotels. At Nikko Tokanso, the hot spring rooms are large. There are both indoor and outdoor pools which I tried both. The water and the facility are clean. Since there are not many guest rooms at the hotel, the hot springs are not crowded. - Stay price include Japanese style meals (dinner and breakfast) which I really like. They offer variety of small plates and a set of shabu for dinner. Those small plates can make you feel stuffed, do not worry.

the rate is very good compared to other properties at Nikko, which is a very expensive location when it comes to accommodations. the room is large and clean, kitchen utensils are all available on site. stuff replies very fast when you have questions and can speak in both Japanese and English. the surrounding area is very quiet and beautiful in the morning. and it is also a very safe neighborhood. Nikko is also very very beautiful, loved it and will come back.

Very friendly hosts who were very helpful and always greets us with a smile. Went out of the way to find us another hotel and drove us there because we missed out one night of booking. Reply our queries promptly. 5-star service. Lovely surroundings too. Just take note that the way to the accommodation is quite scary at night because there aren't many street lights on the way there. But according to the hosts, Nikko is very safe. Just remember to bring flashlight.

We wanted to experience the traditional onsen style and we certainly got this here. This hotel is in a beautiful location but it is also a little out of the way not being in or near the centre of Nikko so we also took half board as this added to the onsen experience and ensured we weren’t stuck for dinner options in the local area. The food was excellent, just don’t snack too much when you are out and about as the meals are extensive with loads of variety.

The host Yoshi, was warm and welcoming! He helped us plan our days to avoid crowds and made sure we were comfortable and welcome at the Sanga Nikko! The location is wonderful, close to train station and grocery store, easy walk into town. After staying in hotels it was wonderful to have a living room and kitchen to stretch out a bit and relax! Loved the Nespresso machine in the mornings. The home is very clean and well kept❤️

The property had a large and beautiful premium suite with a private bath. The room is plentiful for one person. The hotel had great dinner and breakfast that was included at the stay. You can walk around the hotel to view the Japanese garden, Japanese arts, and aquariums around the building. Finally, the service was excellent. They had an English speaker who helped with all my needs. Great hotel that is close to Nikko station.

I was glad to be able to book a room at this hotel at an affordable price just one day prior. Being just a 5-minute walk away from Tobu Nikko station, it's conveniently located. Hot drinks are available for free to be enjoyed in the lobby. I also liked that there's a vending machine selling instant noodles; so I was able to have dinner without having to leave the hotel as I was too lazy to go to the nearest convenience store.

Nikko Station Hotel Classic is in a great location for JR & Tobu Nikko train services as well as the World Heritage Sightseeing Bus. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming, kind and informative and spoke very good english which we really appreciated. The hotel facilities were very nice. The front desk staff only spoke Japanese but we managed to understand one another. The massage chairs were amazing. The buffet - holy cow the amount of food. Our room was large and clean. We enjoyed the bath services inside the room and outside. There is a free shuttle. It is closer to the Tobu Nikko Station. We didn't' realize and took a taxi the day we arrived.

The Onsen was great, clean and quiet! Very close to shoyoen garden and located not that far from Nikko station and Tubo station. Staff are very helpful and communicative over booking chat mostly for us, came picked us in the rain with a lovely smile. Yukata (a special Japanese suit) Is in very high quality and felt really good. To sum up-we were too old for that kind of experience.

the Ryokan is situated in a beautiful area, an unexpectedly scenic drive from Nikko on the shuttle bus up into the mountains then beside a lake to the hotel. The end of November too late for autumn colour but this made for a lovely view through the trees to the lake and mountains behind from our bath on the verandah and the public onsen. Very relaxing!

Hidden gem! We loved our stay at this authentic traditional Japanese hotel, walking in kimono and resting in onsen. The rooms were cozy and spacious. The hotel staff was really friendly and helpful. The location is great, surrounded by nature and a short hike. We went for waterfalls and AMAZING Nikko shrines just in 15-30 min drive. Highly recommend!

For Nikko this was a really well priced hotel. The staff were friendly, and the room was really large. The onsen at the hotel was lovely, and we enjoyed it everyday. The hotel is a little far, but the staff would call us a taxi if we need, but it is close enough to walk to the shrines.

Amazing hotel with amazing service. The location is perfect, it's the hotel that's closest to the shrine and temple area of Nikko so I would say it's the best in order to avoid paying for transportation to the temple area and being able to calmly walk through the forest. 10/10.

The hotel is just fine. It's old, yes, the man at the front desk is a bit grumpy, yes, (could also be his lack of English) but the rooms are rather spacious, have everything you need and the hotel is the cheapest option in Nikko. And I personally liked the old 70s charm.
