We visited quite a few places during our two week stay in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and then we took a two day bike ride from Imabari to Onomichi). Nikko was the most beautiful of the beautiful places we visited. Took a bus ride up the hill and hiked in the forest which boasts two types of bear, deer and monkeys. The temple was beautiful and we enjoyed trying local food. We each had a "Yuba set" at a local restaurant.

The rooms were freezing cold no heating and it was -5 inside the hotel. They provided us with one thin blanket nothing like advertised, the windows were open and unable to close. We are having to seek medical help as one of my friends has developed hypothermia. No food no drink and the toilet facility does not flush.
Said in advert the beds would be made up for us. After a vicious scolding by the owners wife we had to awkwardly make up our own beds with no instructions at all.
If you like being shouted at, sleeping on a solid cold floor with a stone for a pillow this is definitely the place for you.
Didn't really wanna even give the one star but no choice for 0*.

Nikko is a lovely small place.
Nikko is a lovely small place. The local Chinese on the high street has amazing food, it has a very small door and would be easy to miss, but make the effort to find it.
The temples are amazing, but I loved the mountains, if you like trekking then you will love Nikko.

Fabulous place to visit with the right balance between nature walks and temple and shrine visits. Our favorite visits were Toshogu and Rinno-ji Temples, a day trip to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls with a walk towards the Italian and English Embassy residences was beautiful. If you still have time, the Imperial Tomozawa Villa is worth spending a couple of hours at. We did everything by bus and it was very well organised. Train station has convenient coin lockers for luggage and a Yamato counter to deliver your luggage at your hotel so you can start visiting without being troubled.

i loved the variety of hiking trails - there was no shortage of beautiful nature. there are populated trails and quieter trails, and the bus service was very convenient once i got the hang of it. while the shrines were pretty enough, i preferred the rinnoji shrine gardens and would have preferred to spend more time hiking instead of fighting with the crowds at toshugu shrine. senjogahara was stunning and i would have liked to spend more time at the yumoto and kirifuri trails.
october was a little early for autumn leaves, so maybe i will return later in the year next time. that said, it was a pity i just missed the shrine festival this year!
Izumi Nikko is incredible! We loved everything about our 2 night stay here. The location is beautiful and peaceful. We especially loved the private terrace overlooking the stream and woods. The room is spacious and the beds are extremely comfortable. The Japanese breakfast was unbelievably delicious. Izumi-san is so kind and gave us multiple rides to and from the station. He also generously packed a meal for our early train the morning we departed. When we come back to Nikko we will always stay at Izumi! Thank you so much!
Very good location, just outside Nikko Toshogu site. The onsen was nice and I had it to myself as I was one of two sets of guests that weren't the middle school boys plus teachers on a field trip. I have no issues with sharing space with school trips--,they were well behaved kids for the most part. My room was large for one person and I had my own toilet. The staff were very nice to me, the only foreigner in the hotel that day. They kept my bags for me and put them in my room when I came back later in the afternoon.
This place is immaculately clean. Never have I seen such a clean hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and comfortable. The bedding is on the floor and might be a little thin for some, but we managed to sleep well here. They provide lovely robe and toiletry sets for use when using their onsen facilities. The shampoo bar in the women’s onsen is fantastic. Location is great, step outside and you’re 1 min from the Shinkyo Bridge. I would definitely stay here if in Nikko again.
Good location close to both Nikko and Tobu-Nikko station. Tasty breakfast included, with Japanese (vegetable curry) as well as Western (toast) options. The hotel was quiet and safe. The room was somewhat small but not out of the ordinary for Japanese hotels. Probably would not be a great option if you are planning to spend most of your day in the accommodation, but since we spent most of the day out sightseeing and were only at the accommodation at night it was perfectly comfortable for what we needed.
the Ryokan is situated in a beautiful area, an unexpectedly scenic drive from Nikko on the shuttle bus up into the mountains then beside a lake to the hotel. The end of November too late for autumn colour but this made for a lovely view through the trees to the lake and mountains behind from our bath on the verandah and the public onsen. Very relaxing!
The food here is outstanding and the room is so huge comparing to the other Japanese hotels. Something very surprised me here is, they still keep the hospitality of traditional hotel but deliver in very good English . Just like their rooms, keep all the traditional parts but renovated into mordern style. It was a best night for me in Nikko
Great capsule hotel.
I really liked the room that resembles a train compartment.
It has everything you need: a bed, wardrobe, TV, headphones, and a desk.
On the first floor, there's a room with a bath.
They also provide yukatas. Wonderful hotel.
If I'm in Nikko again, I will definitely come back.
While a little out of town Nikko Park Lodge Mountain Side was in a much more natural setting than a town hotel. Their communal area with a fireplace and comfy sofas worked very well for our large family group. The staff bent over backwards to help us and ensure we enjoyed our time in Nikko.
Very close to Tobu Nikko station;
Room is very big as compared to model budget hotel;
Personally I like the 70s style of the hotel;
The hotel is managed by an old couple (I guess they are couple) who don't speak much English but they will try their best to help
The staff provides top-notch professional service. They really know how to take care of you. The onsen, especially the outdoor portion, was delightful. Bus stop going towards Chuzenji/Nikko is right in front of hotel.
The hotel is in oku nikko which surrounded by nature.
If you love nature or snow in winter. This is a perfect place to stay.
Outside Onsen also surrounded by snow but unfortunately we cannot see the star that day.
I like this hotel. Host is very good take care to customers, this is awesom. The room is clean. Hotel is Japanease House style, feeling stay in house. Hotel is very near to Train station (100 meter).
Everything in this hotel was exceptional: staff's welcome and service, viking food(dinner and breakfast),the location, From now on! I'm gonna use nikko hotel station for my trips trips to Nikko.
The onsen and the dinner are definitely the highlights. The hotel is also very well located, next to the main shrines. A great way to experience the best Nikko has to offer for one night!
Beautiful view of the Kinugawa river, spacious rooms, great staff, delicious breakfast and dinner, easy access to Nikko sights, enjoyed the hotel's onsen and the nearby suspension bridge.
This was a wonderful 4 day stay in Nikko due to the kind and thoughtful support of Yoshi and his wife. I appreciated the use of their mountain bike and for having laundry facilities.
Wonderful location!
The owner was super friendly!
Foods are amazing!
Private onsen!
Recommend it to everyone who likes local hotel in Japan and is experienced in hospitality.
The Hotel Marriott at Nikko was delightful in every way, lovely design in the rooms, the lobby etc. The rooms had lots of space and the shower was excellent!
