How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The bathroom was quite old and it was not very comfortable to have a shower.
Perfect, very central location. We appreciated a lot the possibility of an early check in and the very helpful staff.

Was a bit tight and the bathroom syphon was kind of clogged so we had to fight the excessive water. Plus there was a window opening of the toilet directly into the room and no cover for it! :D
Location is right into the old-town labyrinth! You peek your head out and you are right on the spot

Window without a view.
I really liked the location of Rethymno House also the host was really friendly and helpful. The room was spacey and comfortable.

Very old house, and some noise from the bars. But overall good value and everything I wanted was nearby.
Fantastic location. Nick, the owner was excellent. Room cleaned every day.

The location is perfect - everything is within walking distance. The room was spacious and comfortable. Nikos was the perfect host! Smiling and helpful with lots of advice, I recommend and would go back next time :)

The room is quite small and there were mosquitos.
Charming place to stay. Quiet although in a strict city centre in the Old Town area. Very nice and helpful host. Kitchen open for everyone to prepare some food. Plenty of shops and restaurants in the vincinity.

very nice owner, gives you lots of advice about places worth visiting in Rethymno, comfy beds, no extra payment for the air conditioning and it worked really well, awesome location to enjoy the city, also close to the beach and market, well equipped kitchen

We couldn't really open the window during the day or night, as there were many mosquitoes in the area.
The location is very good, close to everything. The owner was very friendly and very helpful, giving us advice about the local events daily.

The room was very small. There was no space to open our luggage. With 3 people it was very tight.

The hotel is situated in the heart of the city of Rethymno. It is very simple but sincere for the price that we pay. Mr Nikos is very polite and ready to give you all the information needed. Thank you for the great hospitality provided.

Good budget room that had everything- Fridge, TV, balcony. Host was very helpful. Steps away from shopping and the seaside promenade. A bit hard to find but I was sent a map which I failed to save locally for reference when I got there.

Location is great, in the centre of old town, yet it was quiet and cozy. Accommodation, furniture is a bit older, but functional and in line with the price. It was cleaned daily and the towels and sheets were changed as planned. Mr Niko is amazing, very friendly and happy to help at any time.

The only issue was the mosquitos: a very efficient anti-mosquitos device was provided, so there was no problem at night, but one could not enjoy open windows.
Central convenient location, comfortable bed, AC, refrigerator, helpful personable host. There was a common kitchen available, although I didn’t use it.

- The location was perfect: situated on a narrow, quiet street at the Old Town of Rethymno, pretty close to Rethymno Beach & all major attractions, restaurants-bars-cafés, but without the noise of other, busier streets. The Central Bus Station of Rethymno (with connections to Chania, Chania Airport, and Heraklion) is only a 15-minute walk away, so I totally recommend Rethymno House to anyone traveling alone and/or planning to move around only on foot or by mass transit. - The residence manager was unbelievably kind and helpful with regards to all my questions and requests (I had specifically requested to check out before sunrise, which was fulfilled with no inconvenience).
