Set 1.7 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Onyado Nono Matsue Natural Hot Spring offers 4-star accommodation in Matsue and has a spa and wellness centre. Wonderful, spacious, clean, and comfortable hotel room. I was lucky enough to upgrade to a King room at check-in, and it was perfect. The hotel is within easy walking distance to city sights and the main train station with lots of good restaurants nearby. The evening ramen was great and there were hot drinks available as well. A few convenience stores are close by too. You leave your shoes in lockers near reception as the hotel has tatami floors. It was very cold in Matsue when I was there (lots of snow) but the room was nice and warm.

Featuring 4-star accommodation, Oyado Tsukiyo no Usagi is set in Izumo, 2.6 km from Inasa Beach and 500 metres from Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo. The staff service was exceptional. This is definitely our favourite Ryokan. The bathing facilities are great, especially after long walks! Next time we are back in Izumo we will definitely book this hotel. Food is really good, for drinkers it's worth going for the unlimited deal.
