Heredia is a hillside city north of San Jose Costa Rica. Smaller and Quieter, but all the necessities. Closer to the airport, and just a few minutes out of San Jose. Easier traffic survival.
Nice little coffee shops around the main square can be found in Heredia and Los Nachos is a fun pub too! It's easy and safe to get around in this small town and there is a Wallmart store surrounded by hidden pastries, coffee shops and veggies restaurants as well. Good info is available at B&B places like La Tortuga to visit the volcanos nearby and easy ways to reach San Jose (20 min bus ride)!
It was OK if you are looking for a tourist experience, I wouldn't recommend Heredia but if you want to be close to the University, Heredia is great.
We were trying to avoid San Jose for our layover night, so we chose a quaint little town of Heredia... We should have just stayed at an expensive San Jose hotel nearer to the airport. Our hotel in Heredia was awful! No AC, super uncomfortable beds and tight quarters. The one upside was a lovely restaurant called La Carretica - great local food.
Heredia as such is not so great. Barva and mainly "Casa del Cafe" were close to outstanding category
Great staff. Taking into account Covid19 related problems and restrictions, all the staff gives their best to keep hotel operation as good as possible (that is the main reason for my overall rating for this hotel) If you have something to do in Heredia City, this hotel has an excellent location. It is near many restaurants, 150m from a supermarket and a car rental site, 500m from Universidad Nacional, 700m from a small mall and a bank (where you can exchange US Dollars to Colones at good exchange rate - bring your passport).
Heredia
Friendly, warm hosts maintaining a generational family home in the heart of Heredia. We enjoyed wandering around their property, taking in all the towering trees that makeup this idyllic yet lively landscape. We especially enjoyed their trio of family dogs and the relaxed atmosphere we felt throughout our stay. Though we travel as a couple, they had flexibility with sleeping arrangements to accommodate families. We plan to return before we have a last farewell to Costa Rica! Highly recommend!
San Jerónimo
This architecturally unique (and somewhat elegant) lodge has large and comfortable rooms with great shower. Management and staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast (included) was excellent, as was the dinner ($20 extra). Location along Ct 22 is actually convenient for Heredia/ Eastern San Jose, while being away from the busy city.
Heredia
A cozy home in downtown Heredia with a warm Tico family. The room had its own balcony and indoor hammock, plus thoughtful layout and decor. The owner facilitated secure parking (at no small inconvenience to herself and her husband), and laundered/pinned up my clothes for a reasonable fee. (Which was, at that point, badly needed).
Every time we’re in Heredia we stay at Hotel Cibeles. We are there about 4 times per year. The rooms are comfortable. The location is perfect for what we need to do. And the staff is beyond helpful.
Pool slices are not safe for kids. No towels, beds are very uncomfortable. It's a nice area but not AC. Super hot at daytime and cold at night again, no blankets. We didn't even have windows to open, only a very noisy fan. Did not advise me not to stay underneath the bar with my 4 year old. He was awake until 11 pm, that's when the music went down
Very central location, but right next to the forest as well. Lovely rooms, Lodge-like in a very good way. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. Swimmong pool large and great for cooling off. Onsite restaurant had good meals.
We knew Poas Volcano Lodge would be a nice place, but it turned out to be much nicer than we expected. The entrance as you drive through the dairy farm is lovely, and the hotel's grounds are much bigger than I thought. We stayed in the main building and found the style and the architecture very nice, incredibly spacious, very well kept. There are multiple lounge areas - the photos don't do them justice. The rooms are large, the bed really comfortable, and the view over the volcano is beautiful. We had dinner on site which was ok - like a nice homely meal - and then enjoyed a few glasses of wine by the fire on one of their many couches. Overall, we were quite surprised and delighted by how lovely our stay was. If you're looking for a place that's cute, cozy, but of a high standard then this is it.
The lodge is very unique. The rooms are in traditional styled huts. Each hut has about 6 rooms inside, and the rooms are decorated with indigenous artwork. Each room has its own seating outside. The grounds are beautiful and very interesting to explore, set amidst an archeological site. The restaurant serves delicious food and has lovely open views. The on-site infinity pool is stunning. The lodge is next to a rainforest nature reserve with a river and hanging bridges. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Its beautiful place specially if you like nature. Owners & staff were lovely and polite.
Good staff, nice bed and AC. Sweet pool. Frog pool and caiman were nice extras
It is simply amazing, expensive yes but well worth it.
Hotel was exactly as described . An oasis in the rainforest. However what made our stay was the prompt help from staff when i twisted my ankle and they arranged for a doctor. There’s nothing more telling about a place than how they deal with things going wrong. So grateful for every they did .
Breakfast was excellent and delicious!! be there in person is way better than the photos!! recommended 100% I will definitely come back !
Location was excellent, beautiful views, great staff. Close to many walks and forest areas. Bed was comfortable room was a good size, had a balcony with fireplace but the wood was damp so it didn't burn well. We had booked 3 nights left after 2 and the owner was very accommodating
The view from the garden is fantastic. The chalet was cosy and comfy. Staff wonderful, very nice and available.
