The Book of Kells was interesting but the actual book itself is under glass and open to one page. That's all you are able to see. One page. There are pictures of various pages and information along the walls as you make your way to the actual book. The long hall was actually my favorite part...more than the book itself.

IF you do the hop on hop off bus thing, get off to do this, then get back on to go to Guinness storehouse. it doesn't take that long to see the book of kells and old library, you can get back on the same bus (at a different stop than you got off cause you would be getting out of trinity college at a different gate than you entered) instead of going to Guinness first.

Although the Book of Kells is a big deal, it really isn't all that wonderful to see. The rooms before entering the actual book room go through the process of how the manuscript was made and illuminated as well as it's significance and historical context for what it contains. Much of this information can also be gained at the Chester Beatty Library and the viewer can see a much wider variety of books as well. The true beauty of the Book of Kells is that you are then emptied out into the Trinity College Library after. That is why you go to see the Book of Kells.

It's a good idea to get a ticket in advance.
It's a good idea to get a ticket in advance. There are a LOT of people moving through here and it is difficult, if you're truly interested in the calligraphy, to get a decent view of the actual book page(s) on display due to the pushing of the crowd. The library, however, is worth the effort alone. Overall, recommend.

Absolutely wonderful and so fascinating.......
Absolutely wonderful and so fascinating....... However, the number of visitors is absolutely horrific and we were not able to read or even look at certain exhibits/walls due to the sheer overwhelming number of people there. The organisers should restrict the number of people allowed into the exhibit at any given time.
Try to go as soon as it opens because the crowds from the previous slots will stay and get in your way!

The location was just what we wanted - it was close to all the things that we knew we want to see in Dublin. We are able to walk to everything - the Book of Kells, the museums, the parks, and the Temple Bar area. the staff was very helpful and friendly.
The location was incomparable - beautiful campus, garden view out my window, quiet and very central. The room was spacious and had a shower and w/c - very convenient, and was adjacent to the very functional kitchen. Big desk, good wifi. The gym was inexpensive and excellent -the Pavillion was its own genial and historical experience, with great beer. Very secure campus but many tourists as the Mona Lisa of Dublin is on site - the Book of Kells. Nearly the museums are very close.
