Offering a restaurant and a bakery, Hirschen Wald is located in the village of Wald and features rooms with free WiFi. The location is exceptional, one a one lane road in the mountains of Appenzell. It was mid April but we had a lot of snow every day, but the roads were plowed and the hotel is very accessible, even in poor weather. The hotel is old but the interior is updated and the rooms are large, modern, and very clean. The food is excellent and they cooked two unique Swiss items for us that were not on the menu. The staff is exceptional.

Surrounded by the Hoher Kasten to Säntis Mountains, Gasthaus Bären Schlatt offers rooms with views of the mountains and Appenzell village. Lovely people, very accommodating and friendly. Really comfortable rooms and excellent food.

Located next to the car-free centre of Appenzell, Adler Hotel is set in a beautiful traditional Appenzell-style building. Very authentic house with some rooms originally decorated. Extremely friendly and helpful host. We felt welcomed dearly, on a personal level!

My husband had absolutely incredible impressions from his stay at Gasthof Löwen Hotel. In this a remarkable ancient building where he felt a welcomed and dear guest. Staff and management are impeccably polite, friendly, doing their best to serve client’s needs and special requests. They are so humble and caring while doing their job brilliantly! Their business is not about making money- this is just a part of the story, just a fair compensation for the great service. Their business is about making their guests feeling happy, welcomed, calm and safe. Whatever issue one may have - it immediately is treated properly and respectfully. Besides this, the food is fresh and tasty. Some days my husband was the only guest at the hotel - and the breakfast was served just for him! Rooms and linen are very clean, equipment is stylised as ancient but is modern and works well. It’s quiet at night- great soundproof windows. Beautiful furniture and very comfortable beds! Before that choice we had a very negative experience with the other hotel network in the region because their business was more about real estate management not people. And Gasthof Lowen Hotel is about people- staff and their welcomed guests! Thank you so much for our great days with you!

We stayed 2 nights beginning of June. If you like traditional places, you should visit Waldgasthaus Lehmen. You would be surrounded by natural forest with a view on Appenzell Alps. One of the most common sound during the day is various bells on cow necks. We were lucky to see how Appenzell farmers bring their cows to the mountains. The farmers have very beautiful cloths! On Saturday we saw a group of farmers, who came in their traditional dresses to Lehmen restaurant and had a few hours of singing and enjoying food. The restaurant is very good, if you like Swiss food. You must be hiking in that region, otherwise food might be too heavy. I had pork steak, pork schnitzel and beef steak with noodles and mushrooms. All dishes were very tasty. You have to try local beer! And Lehmen whisky! Highly recommended! Very nice! Service is impeccable, fast and attentive. All personnel is very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful! I would prefer, if it started at 7 instead of 8… Our room 17 was great, soft pillows, comfy beds, bath, simple but cozy design. The hotel has a playground for kids. Parking is huge.

Located in Gais, 17 km from Olma Messen St. Gallen, Ferienhotel Idyll Gais provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. Excellent building. Just how one would imagine a typical Swiss village house. I regret that I didn’t spend more time in the area. Good breakfast. Clean and perfectly maintained. I will definitely go back.

Eichberg’s Landgasthof Hölzlisberg has a barrier-free restaurant that serves seasonal Swiss and international cuisine. The Eichberg bus stop is 1 km away. I like the property and the host and the location up hill ,beautiful. Feel home 🏡. It’s really traditional classics hotel and the owner so kind to us . She willing to open the restaurant just for us as we can’t go outside because of the weather to cold. It’s was last minute to order food and she really helped us. The day check out she did send us to train station 🚉. Thank you 🙏 so much to her kindness and hospitality. Definitely I will comeback again . Will recommend to others.

Situated 1.5 km from the Schwende ski lift and 3 km from the Ebenalp ski lift, Loosmühle features a bakery, a snack bar and a café on site. Very nice, spacious, clean room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Even when my travel plans changed somewhat due to the weather, the owner was nothing but friendly and helpful. Maximum number of stars!
