It's a great view of city and village life.
It's a great view of city and village life. You do the loop and that some what sums up your trip.
I did hit the Mountain you take a boat under and I took the "Back road" by mistake and ended up driving 58km though Laos villages
Seriously the best part of the trip.
I got to see a side of Laos 99% Of tourist never will so def. something worth seeing if you find that back road, its not hard to see if you do the loop backwards from what hotels advise you.
the caves are great, Dragon cave is a SERIOUS hike, the first few caves just east of the town are barely 5 minute visits and are used for praying not so. much tourism.

Just place for change of scenery from Thailand on visa run.
Just place for change of scenery from Thailand on visa run. Very easy border crossing and for visa on arrival to Laos not crowded on day we crossed. Good for stay and travel to other parts of Laos mountain area which had vrey much nicer weather. If you are motorcycle rider starting point for Thakek loop. Laos people were very friendly.

Many beautiful and scenic spots to explore close to Thakhek.

The town has a very laid back atmosphere and is friendly and reasonably priced. There is a very special and spiritually important temple if one has an affinity for that.

The karst mountains near the town are very beautiful.
The karst mountains near the town are very beautiful. Traffic on route to Vietnam can be a bit intimidating. The smaller dirt roads into the mountains are the best. Worthwhile wearing a face mask and dustproof goggles as the dust raised by pickup trucks can be suffocating and visibility reduced to practically zero especially with a big truck travelling at speed on a dusty dirt back road.

Thakhek is the old town, every architectures I saw it is full of history. You should walk around in the morning it is very nice weather. And if you like to outside for adventures. There are many caves around. You can rent the motorbike to go there it is not too far. Two sides of the road to adventure you will see local people living. They are so nice and friendly.

Nice near the river.
Nice near the river. Good start point for Thakhek loop by motorscooter, which we only went halfway and then returned back on the route for second part. 570km in 4D/3N trip, on mainly good roads. Stayed at Sabbadai guesthouse on 1st & 3rd night, and near Konglor Cave 2nd night. Get to Konglor area before dark, as quite a lot of potholes. Roads generally very good.
I stayed twice, before and after the loop. One room just Ok, the other one shabby and bathroom smelly.. Ok bed, wifi ok, AC but no fan or mosquito net, but few mosquitoes when i was there. Good restaurant and communal area, with excellent real coffee. Very nice garden area. Efficiently run by a very hospitable host family - so kind that it made up for the deficiencies in the rooms which, just on their own, I'd rate at a 4 and 6 (two differet rooms). Really helpful with information and onward transport.
The owner of this hostel, Mr Noy is extremely kind and helpful! We stopped in Thakhek on the way ti Vientiane and he helped us book our bus tickets (the bus was great). The pool is nice, and the facilities are basic! The showers are warm and there is a good number of bathrooms for all the guests! We stayed in the private room with no bathroom and it was good for 2 nights. The beds were comfy. The location is also excellent, right by the river and less than a minutes walk to the night market!
Super clean hostel which is very important to me. Probably the cleanest place I’ve stayed at honestly. They also have comfortable beds and great working air con. Love that they also provide filtered water, towels, shampoo, and soap. This family is awesome and very kind.
I originally only wanted to do the rock view zip line and after some chatting I was convinced to do the thakhek loop and I’m glad I did!! It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. Thank you Binh and Trang!
The hostel had really good aircon and beds had sheets hanging in between so you varnt see the next person.
The owner was so helpful with organising the loop, getting a rental scooter and telling me where to stay. He also booked the night bus to Vientiane for me and then drove and waited with me at the bus stop till the bus came.
Beautiful place, good vibe and super helpful staff. Nico gave advice on the Thakhek loop and how to do it the best way. Also great with booking transportation and other things. Dorm room was nice and clean and is actually a 6 person and 4 person room joined by an open doorway rather than one 10 person room.
It was clean clean clean and updated everywhere. The best bed and pillows I’ve had in Laos. I didn’t want to leave. Gorgeous decor and furnishings with attention to detail. The owner was a beautiful woman and spoke delightful English. Also the free breakfast was lovely ❤️
The staff were excellent! Super helpful and nice. The stay overall was great, we stayed for one night before the loop and one after, it’s close to wang wang which is the main motorbike/car agency and there are restaurants close too. The shower had hot water.
Location and staff so friendly. rooms with refrigerator, A/C and comfortable beds. The hotel looked like a three stars European standard. The toiletries were so good. The breakfast is included and you can choose several options. Free water at reception
The bus was so late getting into town, I didn't arrive until just after 11pm. I had messaged the property to update them and it was no problem at all. So friendly, the room is basic but clean and does the job for one night before starting the loop.
Our bus was delayed so we arrived after check in time but it was arranged for our door to be left open so we could still stay there which was really helpful. The owner was so friendly and helpful, and helped give us advice for the Thakhek loop
The staff was really nice and also having the option of coffee/tea and bananas was good. She helped us with all our questions and it was great to get the laundry done while on the loop. Luggage storage during the loop was for free as well.
Can't say much we arrived at midnight and left the morning after! I actually havent seen the room it self! Shower and toilet were ok...as well as the breakfast and the owner super nice! She gave me many information on the loop
We got the deluxe room, with private bathroom. It was very spacious, there is a nice terrace as well.
Staff is very helpful and they rent motorbike for the loop at very competitive price!
The owners of the hostel were so helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed my stay here before and after the Thakhek loop. Super clean and nice rooms with good AC. The cafe is great as well.
Cute little hostel with comfy beds and a commin area, easy to meet people before the Thakkek Loop.
You can easily walk to bars and restaurants nearby.
The host is really nice as well !
Location was in the heart of town close to restaurants and scooter rental. Really friendly staff. Extremely clean. Lovely common area . Let me store my bag when I did the loop.
Beautiful, nicely furnished small hotel with excellent central but still quiet location. A few min away from Mekong river. Our suite was very large and pleasant
Really cool hostel where you can rent the bike to do the loop
The owner Bin is very nice and helpful for anything you need even future trips in Vietnam ahah
