Alcala de Henares is a UNESCO city, which means its historically significant as not only a university city but a city of monuments. It's easy to get around on foot, and it preserves the arched walkway and numerous plazas to explore. We took an easy train from Madrid (approx. $8 for two people) Chamartin Station to downtown Alcala. Easy enough access to Barajas Airport. We dined at a wonderful Argentine restaurant in the center.

Madrid is a large city but Alcalá de Henares has it's own charms, not least that is it much less busy but no less special. The old streets are alive at night as people walk about, before maybe enjoying a drink or meal in one of the many lovely hostelries here.
The town hosts many festivals and we happened to arrive when one was in progress. The community was fully involved.
The town has a history that goes back to Roman times so don't miss looking up the Roman ruins and the ancient university which is over 500 years old.

It is a suburb of Madrid near the highway - fine for people who travel by car or don't mind travelling by train for 35 minutes to get into Atocha in Madrid.
There are some cafes and restaurants close to the hotel we stayed at, as well as some shops and pharmacies.
We were close to La Garena station with a direct link to the centre of Madrid - there is also a metro station in the area.

Amazing phenomenon of storks who live there in great numbers and occupy major monuments :)

A historical city close to Madrid, with baroque churches and a magnificent old university building plus the Cervantes Museum.
Plenty of restaurants (Spanish, Italian, Indian, etc.) but quite expensive for dinner. And lots of nice bars with terraces under the arcades.

I like the feel of the place, right in the very centre of the city looking at Cervantes birth house, on the very central street in Alcala de Henares. Ivan is here happy to help any moment. Despite our different languages, his - Spanish, mine - English, we could understand each other quite well. A typical Spanish design makes a part of the experience. You literally feel that the host wants to make your stay comfortable and pleasurable.
This was a last minute booking and just a one night stay which was such a shame as we we loved this hotel. The bed was heavenly.. We didnt make it to breakfast as the bed was so comfortable, we slept through the alarm! Room service dinner was excellent and promptly delivered. All the staff we encountered were professional, friendly and helpful.
Location is excellent...
Good location close to the center of the city. Supermarket very close the appartment opened till 23:00. 20min walk distance to train station.
Madrid is for tourists, Alcalá de Henares is very nice historic city, where you can touch real life of common Spains. Cervantes birth place, his native house is now museum, entry even free of charge.
The location was very central, located in one of the main squares, so it was very easy to access everywhere easily on foot. The hotel staff was welcoming. The room was large and clean. The hotel was beautifully designed with old parchments along the the hallways and the stairs. The heating was easy to adjust and effective.

A nice hotel in the historic center of Alcalá, just a few steps from the house where Cervantes was born. The room was nice and clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast seemed to favor quality over a myriad of options which I certainly appreciated.
We enjoyed the location. It was convinient to access other areas of Madrid but situated in a quiter residential area. Supermarket in the same block and other stores and restaurants nearby. Good water pressure and temperature.
I LOVED the hotel restaurant -- it was excellent, and the food was delicious.
I liked the on-site hotel parking.
I liked the convenience to the metro
I liked the neighborhood
We could relax and visit the city centre by foot. The swimming pool was a plus during the hot summer in Spain. The bedrooms are excellent and the breakfast was delicious.
The apartment was clean and spacious. The decor was eclectic and beautiful. It was in a great location. Check in was easy as keys are obtained through a hotel.
