I attended a conference at the AICC and for convenience I ate my dinner at the Mount Meru Hotel. I enjoyed the safari to Tarangire Park and had a lovely goat and lamb BBQ at the local Kwa Mrombo (a street full of BBQ goat meat in Arusha).

Arusha is not a pleasant place, on the very dirty crowded streets there is non stop people grabbing and talking to you all wanting money, we had one person tell us about his mother in the hospital and wanted us to pay her bills. Arusha is a means to a safari and that is it.

Arusha is a busy city.
Arusha is a busy city.
I have visited old German Boma which was converted into Natural History Museum.
Seen also Arusha Declaration Monument and Clocktower which they claim it’s located in the middle of Africa or let say in the middle between Cairo and Cape Town.
They have some supermarkets like Shoppers Supermarket or AIM Mall on the way to Arusha Airport.
East African Community HQ and Heritage Museum.

A typical African city, colorful with open local markets and malls, safe to walk around and very friendly people. Ideal location to start your safari because most safari organisers start safaris from there. I’ll definitely visit Arusha again.

Great city to stay in.
Great city to stay in. Definitely the safari hub; at least four major safari destinations (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater) within a day's drive. Lots of great (if sometimes challenging) hiking to be done in the foothills of Mount Meru and the Kilimanjaro (or climb the mountains if you feel like it).
Easy access through Arusha (domestic) or Kilimanjaro (international) airports. Taxis are cheap, but make sure you agree on a price beforehand,

Good variety of shops and interesting cultural and heritage centre. Convenient place for starting point for safari. Views of mountains/hills at times. Climate not too hot. Maasai market interesting.
We absolutely loved our stay at Mambo Hideaway! We spent three nights and enjoyed every bit of it. The rooms were comfortable and cozy- it felt like staying in a lovely home, not a corporate hotel. The shower got HOT too which was much appreciated in chilly Arusha. The breakfast was fantastic and we spent lazy mornings in the garden. The distance from town didn’t bother us at all- we would take a taxi around lunch and come back after dinner. Maggie was an excellent hostess and took such good care of us. Highly, highly recommend!
It is a pleasure to stay here... An oasis of rest is the bustling area of Arusha... The luxury bungalows in the middle of the coffee-plantage and beautiful nature are stunning... The food in both the bistrot and the restaurant are great... and we were absolutely charmed by the social project Shanga.org that is hosted on the property, where disabled Tanzanians are working in creative sustainable jobs that are implemented in the hotel, for example all glasses are handblown bij Shanga! Big respect for the owners to implement this!
The hotel is excellently located in the downtown Arusha with access to the market and the street around the hotel and the nearby cafes provided an excellent choice and variety for street food. For breakfast, we loved the vitumbuas and katlasi around the corner! The hotel interior is well finished with tastefully furnished allowing comfortable living. The kitchen is fully functional allowing cooking and the convenience of separate bathroom and toilet, ideal for families!
I don't use to make a review however this is The best place i ever had in tanzania, I was supposed to stay 1 night, but I will be back again to extended my duration 3 more nights, Meshack is absolutely friendly and kind person they make you comfortable I felt the same atmosphere than a guest host no hotel i ate delicious food cooked with the heart the room is excellent, I'm deeply satisfied i highly recommend you, 10/10.
The Peace, Serenity and Cleanliness here are wonderful. Beautifully surrounded by so much luscious greenery and other tropical plants makes this the perfect setting for anyone, especially nature lovers seeking solitude. The gated location has easy access to other parts of the Arusha town and the National Parks. Very friendly staff will help find anything else you need at any time. I really recommend this place.

Do yourself a favour, stop researching elsewhere and stay here. Stayed previously at 5 star Meru hotel, and sure it was flash, but the Blue elephant so much more relaxed atmosphere, homey & beautiful gardens/chill zones, you wouldn't pick that it's just off the busy main street. The amazing girls will look after you and keep you well fed. Such a gem! I'll be back!
Staff was the main reason I rate the property as 8 but the product& facilities are totally away to name it as a hotel. I would like to recognise Moses the manager/ Neama in restaurant/ grace the HK they were doing their best to make sure the guest are happy even though the hotel condition/ product status were outdated and not valid for guests by all means
It is an old but charming Colonial-style hotel, well maintained. The room needs to be updated a little. We can not even find the plug near the bed for iPhone. However, the buffet dinner was beyond expectation, and the hotel looked warm and cozy. We walked outside for a while; although there was no pavement, we still loved the local vibe.
Very very nice place to stay. Little bit out of town but with bolt or one of the bodas you’ll be fine. They have a good tour operator with fair prices. They wil help you with everything especially Nam she’s the best. She helped me so much with getting my bag back from Naribi. “Budget” hostel probably one of the best in Arusha
The Vijiji is a lovely boutique hotel with beautiful rooms, a refreshing pool, gorgeous gardens and delicious meals. The staff were all welcoming and kind. Activities are also offered and I took advantage of a local walk in the villages which was beautiful and informative. Great place to stay near Arusha.
The property is lovely and the set up with the pool and bar is very nice - feels more boutique compared to a lot of other hotels in Tanzania. It was very peaceful and clean. The a la carte lunch was delicious. If you want a more remote location then this hotel is right for you.
The hotel is beautiful. Definitely one of the top in Arusha. We were travelling for a honeymoon and we got an upgrade, which was a beautiful gesture. The room was comfortable, clean and stylish. We dined in the bufet restaurant and the quality of food exceeded our expectations.
The staff were excellent, great food (one of the best we had in all Tanzania) and the room is super nice. Additionally, you get a beautiful view from the room balcony on Mt Meru - priceless. Would recommend to anyone interested at staying around Arusha
Comfortable and welcoming hotel to stay at in Arusha. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay and the place feels secluded and was made beautiful with lots of plants. The chef accommodated our dietary preferences which was much appreciated.
Friendly staff, at the reception as well as in the restaurant.
Really nice room, with everything we needed.
Clean room and hotel overall.
Close to the center of Arusha, near the market and the train station (we went to Dar with the train).
The staff was so friendly! This hotel is a little gem in Arusha, very quiet, with a nice pool and a beautiful garden.
The breakfast is really good too!
The hotel is close to the city center, easy access by cab or tuk tuk :)
Agnes was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay! I will 100% recommend it and if I ever come back to Arusha I would stay here.
Breakfast was delicious too.
