This is a lovely place with wonderful and attentive staff who go out of their way to meet every need. It has been in the same family for forty years and their dedication really shows. We loved the location — while Spoleto is full of things to do and see, try to make time to spend an afternoon sitting by the pool looking up into the olive grove (where you might catch a glimpse of the donkey!) It is so peaceful and very walkable 1.5 miles to the train station (although I would not walk in the dark because the last part does not have sidewalks).
During our stay, we were the only English-speaking guests but the menus were in English and Roberta is fluent in English (and kind despite our terrible attempts at Italian).
Each morning there is a bountiful and free breakfast, complete with meats, cheese, yogurt and a totally-worth-the-calories HOMEMADE cake. Also any kind of coffee drink made to order. We also thought the restaurant for dinner was very good and extremely reasonably priced.
Our room had AC and was VERY clean.
I would say this was an exceptional value — 5 nights plus 5 breakfasts and three dinners cost only 641 euros. We found La Macchia a good base for exploring Spoleto and the following towns.

In the historic town of Spoleto, San Luca is a charming, family-run hotel set in the grounds of a former convent. Breakfast and drinks are served in the floral courtyard.

personale accogliente, disponibile e molto gentile
Beautiful old hilltop town with so much to see. There is the Rocca Castle at the top of the town well worth the visit with spectacular views. The Duomo (Cathedral) in Piazza del Duomo, beautiful ceiling paintings. Lots of old narrow streets and lovely market squares, lots of places to stop for a coffee, glass of wine, lunch. Could spend alot longer here than we did. It's very hilly but there is an amazing underground moving escalator system that you can hop on to make it easier to get up those hills! On my previous visit to Spoleto, I stayed at Hotel Clitunno which I also highly recommend.

Spoleto is one of Italy's most pictures and peaceful towns. Very relaxed atmosphere with lots of beautiful restaurants and eateries.
The old Roman structures were not crowded and easy to access on foot. Walking around Spoleto was easy and very safe both by day and night.
Lots of old Roman ruins and artists works in galleries dotted around the town.
A perfect break from the congestion of the big cities. Spoleto will not disappoint. Hotel Duci was in a perfect location with good parking

The view at the top of the mountain using the tramway was exquisite and seeing the bridge and fort....Loved the Duomo beautiful beyond..the old streets...not many tourists...the streets so interesting. It was easy to get around..loved the piazza below our accommodation. Our accommodations were beyond my expectation. The wrap around terrazzo was such a bonus and a special way to end our trip. The old very old church just outside added to the beauty. and the tramway a walk away, The views from our terrazzo was spectacular!.

Spoleto is a city dating back thousands of years, where monuments, fortresses and wonderful awe inspiring churches exist. A modern underground walking/moving escalators and elevators assist young and old alike to move around this wonderful ancient city. There are numerous shops, boutiques, indoor/outdoor restaurants and bars to serve the public. Most important are the friendly people of Spoleto. A must see destination for all.

A really interesting town which is very easy to navigate with underground walkways and escalators. Easy access and easy parking, we wished we could have stayed for more than one night. A lovely Duomo overlooked by hilltop castle from which there is an excellent view.
Located down in the lower part of the charming old town of Spoleto. It is near plenty of bars, restaurants and shops, which are also quite lively on a weekend. The sofa bed was extremely comfortable in the lounge area, and apartment was comfortable. The main part of the old town is a easy walk up the hill and steps into the main street, where there are more restaurants and plenty of sightseeing opportunities. To access La Rocca there is a short walk to the lift to take you to the top.
Everything about this property was fabulous. Situated outside of Spoleto, this is a reception place as well as hotel. It has a wonderful restaurant with first class food, amazing pool and farm animals if you have children. The room was modern as was the whole property. The shower recess was a little small for my husband but adequate for me. The whole property is very clean with lovely gardens and very large car park. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it.
Their picture of the 13th century pedestrian bridge is no lie - there’s an amazing view out over the ravine and across to the Monteluco side of the valley. It’s quiet, the whole of the “centro storico” is an easy walk and the staff is super friendly and helpful. We loved the enormous windows in our room, with the wonderful view. If you like museums, get the Spoleto card - you can visit all 6 museums for a reduced price within 7 days.
A wonderful stay at the Villa on my "Via di Francesco". The Villa is between Trevi and Spoleto in Poreta and is a great place to relax in rural italy after the busy Towns. Beautifull Villa with a very spacious room. The host is very helpfull and offered me the choice of either have a local make me a simple diner or bring me to a restaurant. I did chose the simple dinner (bread, tomato, egg, vegetable pie) which was a delight.
Spoleto is a superb location and the Hotel dei Duchi is superbly located to visit the town. The staff is friendly and ready to help, the room was quiet, clean, and offered a great view on the countryside. The most important monuments of the town are near and, finally, the Hotel is surrounded by some interesting restaurants. The paid price is good for the value of the Hotel. I warmly recommend this Hotel.
We loved the garden, the private terrace with view on the fields, olive trees and mountains, the proximity to Spoleto, Trevi, Assisi, the very pleasant swimming pool, the efficient air conditioning, the lovely furniture in the apartment. Internet and wifi worked also perfectly. This place is a very lovely place for a vacation, with friendly guests, quiet surroundings in beautiful Umbria.
The apartment is very colorful and comfortable. The directions to get in and the contact with the host were among the best we’ve seen, and the location makes it easy to get to anything, but you are in a very quiet setting. There is a nice little cafe across the street; the bed is comfortable, and the bath large.
It was well located right in the old town. From the balcony we could see the people below at cafes in the piazza and even heard a choir practicing in a building near the church which was rather nice. It is not too far from the parking places to access the upper parts of Spoleto and the castle.
It's a very quirky, step back in time, delightful hotel. This was our 5th hotel in Umbria and by far the best breakfast. Room was v clean, comfy and beautifully decorated. Whoever painted the walls with a trompe loiel (excuse spelling) effect did so brilliantly.
This place is the perfectly located. I really appreciate the location just near the town center, the services in particular the breakfast with many choices of the italian cornetto, the staff, the clean room with private toilette / Bath and the free parking.
I stayed in boutique hotels, and this one was my best experience! Lori, the owner of the hotel, is doing an amazing job of making it feel like a private palazzo with amazing attention to details. just look at this breakfast! also we got a free upgrade ❤️
Wonderful location. Apartment with a great flair in a charming old house with thick stone walls cooling even in summer heat. Extremely nice and forthcoming hosts. Small kitchen serves the purpose. Cafe bar very nearby to take breakfast.
The Palazzo Dragoni is beautiful, the rooms are large and luxurious, and it's in an ideal location in Spoleto. They went above and beyond to help me out with a car issue. Stay here -- both the people and the palazzo are amazing!
Great hotel and excellent customer service from a brilliant host. She was very helpful with the check-in process, sending us a map of the nearby parking lot and plenty of recommendations for local restaurants
