Nice Hotel with spacious parking between 2 streets. New Apartments with pool 50m away across the street. Nice pool with refreshing water. All facilities very clean, rooms with comfortable beds and air conditioning. Breakfast was various and tasty, backfilled regularly. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, everyone was speaking english and german.
Nice small town. Not much in the way of shops -Pleasantly lacking in cheap gift shops. Castle quite interesting. Restaurant opposite castle entrance very nice (closed Wednesdays) Try the anchovies!
Streets very narrow, beware speeding (female) drivers,-not even safe on zebra crossings! Nice cliff top walk-difficult to find the start-make sure you ask at your hotel.

Duino is a small former fishing village between the carso and the sea. It is the seat of the United World College of the Adriatic so there are a number of students of all nationalities during the academic year. This means that there are great restaurants for when parents and family are visiting. People in Duino take their seafood seriously and the restaurants cater for a sophisticated and well-off clientele. I would say that a car is necessary here as the gradient to get down to the bay is steep and walking back up is a long haul in the sun. It is very peaceful and tranquil. There is a small pebble beach for babes but here local children learn to swim really early and just jump in off the rocks. The organised beach area is quite expensive as you pay an entrance fee, sun lounger and umbrella, but if you stay a full day then it's good value for money and the quality of the water is superb. You climb straight into deep water and can swim throughout the bay. At the beginning of the descent into Duino is a wonderful nature reserve with the famous Rilke walk.....for the energetic ! It's all lovely and there are spectacular views over the Castle of Duino which is also a great draw with a really interesting museum.
Frederica and Giorgio were marvellous hosts. Frederica met us with her motor scooter at the gate of Duino Castle to show us the way to Porto del Bivio. After we had arrived and settled in, she gave us a refreshing aperitif to enjoy in the shady garden. She suggested an excellent trattoria for our evening meal. Our room was large, spotlessly clean, air conditioned, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, and Giorgio made us scrumptious scrambled eggs. Highly recommend Porto del Biblio.
Beautifull villa, every single detail is carefully selected. From the porch you can see the Duino castle,. It takes 20 min by car to Trieste. Castello Miramare is really close. Private parking available at request, free of charge. Breakfast is nice (there is salty and sweet option). The room was really comfortable and cosy. Everything super clean. The hosts are educated and nice people, ready to answer all the questions of the needy guests. Beautifull stay.
A beautiful, recently refurbished and fully equipped apartment in a very strategic point of the Trieste Gulf.
This house is the perfect position to visit a large part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, enjoy a crystal Adriatic Sea and relax in the quiet of nature.
The warm welcome of Massimo and all the attentions and advice given, have been a great added value for our staying.
The bottle of prosecco in the fridge is the icing on the cake!
We had an overnight stay only in Duino, but we liked both the accomodation and the surrounding small town. The appartment is spacious, comfortable and well maintained. Starter kit - salt, sugar, tea bags, coffe pods, dishwasher tabs, soap, toiletries - were also at our disposal, which we highly appreciated. Grado is about 35 minutes by car, so the place is suitable for a few more days stay also. All in all, we liked it.
Excellent value, Marissa was so lovely and gave me great tips about the area! Duino is very quiet but perfect for the relaxing wind down I was looking for. The castle is a lovely surprise, great swimming spots just 5 min walk or half an hour if you take the Rilke Path. For food the little market downstairs does affordable pizza which is better than what I’ve had at the restaurants near the beach.
The atmosphere at B&B Duino Stella Maris was outstanding. Miki was very welcoming and friendly and always showed a willingness to help with anything needed and the rest of the guest house staff were also very nice, I felt at home. I will highly recommend it to anyone I know who will be passing through the area. Grazie Mille!
We stayed here while hiking the Alpe Adria trail. The hotel was very convenient, and the receptionist was knowledgeable about the trail. He offered great advice for our next day's hike, and a fantastic dinner recommendation at a nearby pizzeria. Just what we needed after a long day hiking!
Great place in the very center of Duino. It is located two minutes walk from the castle and another few minutes from Rilke Path.
The room was very nice. In the living area there is also very nice balcony with the view of Duino and the sea.
It is a very nice villa, in the outskirts of Duino (nothing is far away). 5-6 min walk to the piazza.
the room and the beds are very good too.
The breakfast was nice and good.
I liked the family who is running the b&b
Excellent view from the room and balcony ,the best hostess ever, the best breakfast in my life! The Duino old castle was really close, also the Rilke path. Simply wonderful! I would recomend it to anyone!
Room was big but a bit outdated in decoration. The owner told us that they will be redecorated.
Had a big balcony. Hotel has a restaurant too. Breakfast was ok, not great but cheap
Hotel Aurora exceeded our expectations: great location, delicious breakfast, comfortable room and friendly staff... amazing place for amazing experiences. Thank you so much!
- Good location outside the city and near to the beach
- Good for exploring the area around and outside Trieste
- Very nice and kind hosts
Definitely recommended!
Charming small hotel and restaurants just steps away from Castello di Duino. Dining is on the shady front patio—a relaxing setting. The staff is extremely helpful.
