Perfect house and rooms. Amazing glass room with cute candles. I love the kitchen most! It provides all I need, such as a bottle of oil, spices, and special hand-made sauce. It's really nice with spaghetti.

The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this). There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime. There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large. In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views. The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see.

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see. An area with a lot of history. A good for both people who like to do independent activities and people who prefer guided tours. It is the place of viking settlements and the sagas. There is a Settlement museum to learn about it. Waterfalls and a la a tube cave you can take a tour of.

We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel. Car parking was free. There was a pathed route to walk around the coast. We had coffee and lunch at a wonderful place called Blómasetríð - Kaffi Kyrrð. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard/garden. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and kind.

Drove by car from Keflavik at 10 AM - visited Akranes lighthouse and nice museum - had great vegetarian buffet lunch in Borgarness - at a vikkingmuseum. Drove to our hotel and then to the KRAUMA spa and we had dinner there. Next day we drove to the waterfalls Barnafoss, then to visit the lavagrotto and took over the highland on the road 550 back towards Reykjavik. Great tour!

After a very long flight and drive straight from Keflavik airport, arriving at Basalt Hotel was exactly what we needed. We were greeted warmly, the shower was hot, our dinner of roast lamb fillet was excellent and the bed we collapsed into was very comfy. The hotels location is very pretty and while it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere it’s not hard to find. We put the GPS coordinates into the hire cars nav system and drove straight there. Breakfast next morning was a self serve buffet and also very good.

Beautiful Hotel / Hostel! The staff is so awesome and friendly and welcoming; I cannot express that enough! Especially as a solo traveler a lot of times you're not sure what to expect next. Breakfast was soooo good; I loved it! It wasn't really what I was expecting, definitely more of a luxury hotel type experience, but hey - it was awesome! AND it's one of THE cheapest hostels in Iceland. (I know bc I checked the entire island lol.)

Fjola and Jon were outstanding hosts. Our apartment on their farm was a haven for our stay near Borgarnes. Views of the surrounding fields were great, and such a nice change from city hotels. The apartment had everything we needed, including a filter coffee maker. The weather turned overnight, and roads were closed the next morning. Fjola kindly informed us of this and offered that we could stay longer, which was very generous.

The room was surprisingly large. We are a family of three and required three single beds. The room was absolutely spacious and thoroughly clean. Great last night in Iceland after 10 days on the road. Conveniently located off route one but very quiet. Several good dining options nearby. Free parking. Hardy breakfast that included eggs which is unusual for an Icelandic hotel breakfast.

This was by far the best place we stayed during our trip around Iceland. The room was comfortable with so many luxurious surprises, beautiful art, and a warm energy. Our hosts, Kristen and her husband , were delightful and accommodating. Breakfast was absolutely perfect and lovingly prepared right in the host's kitchen. If you can book this place... you are in for a special treat!

Very good value - we had a 22h layover in Iceland, and we were able to rent a car and whole trailer cottage for cheaper than staying at a hotel closer to airport. It was an easy drive with nice views. Great place to sleep before next days flight - we also drove a little more to look at views in the evening. Cozy and functional, with a view to mountain tops.

This was our second time booking the same large room upstairs with a balcony. So nice and with everything you needed. The balcony allows you to try to catch the Northern lights from all sides of the hotel. Every thing was perfect. Not far accross the water is Borgarnes where you can have many choices for restaurant.

The rooms are spacious (specially for Iceland’s standards!) and the bed was very comfortable. Friendly staff, clean facilities, and wonderful spa with hot tub, steam room, and sauna. The restaurant was understaffed and we didn’t have a great experience dinning there but also understand it was January 1st.

Cozy room. The room was quite warm through the night. There is a kettle and coffee/tea. Beds are comfortable enough. There is a restaurant downstairs and a small parking lot outside. Close to a few restaurants and a small cafe. Borgarnes is a very pretty and cute little town.
