The location was lovely, out of the most touristy part of Sougia but close enough to quickly drive down for a meal or to buy supplies. We were hiking the Agia Irini Gorge and it was very conventient for that.

Great room, great breakfast, free parking, and great staff. We met people that return year after year. That in itself says it all.
Located 328 feet away from Grammeno beach, Megim offers free transportation around the area and free sun beds and umbrellas on the beach.

We liked the fact it was away from the main town and within walking distance to Grammeno Beach which is sandy. The local beach is just a few minutes walk away across the road with a lovely cafe/ staff but it's pebble beach but also beautiful. The water is crystal clear.
The breakfast was generous and wonderful and the two ladies who did the breakfast and cleaned our rooms we're so lovely.
The garden is beautiful. People took the breakfast out on a tray and sat under the vine. I enjoyed watching the goats on the rocks behind the house.
There are quite a few restaurants to eat in nearby within walking distance if you didn't fancy driving into Paleochora town including one in the campsite which is nearby.

It was very quiet as it is November, so end of the tourist season, but nice. The weather is still perfectly fine to go to the beach, there are still some restaurants and bars open. It's a nice little quiet place to go hike or stay on the beach without the crowds of Chania or Heraklion.

Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge,...
Sougia is a small village at the mouth of Agia Irini gorge, approximately 1.5hrs drive from Chania airport (we rented a car) It has a couple of mini markets and a couple of gift shops but the main street hosts mainly tavernas. The beach is a pebble beach with crystal clear water. You have access to bus, ferry and taxi services allowing you to explore the surrounding area. We have stayed in Sougia 4 times and we love the tranquility and beautiful mountainscape.

Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city...
Very relaxing, chilled, and out of the way of the city hustle. Quite the feeling of hippie lifestyle, with relaxed attitude towards nudists. The beach has both areas for people who enjoy to swim with swimwear, and without. There are several tents around the far end of the beach, and the atmosphere in bars and restaurants is relaxed.
Great place for walkers as well as those who just want to enjoy the peace and quiet. Daily ferry service, and one bus service.
I stayed in Lissos rooms which was lovely and quiet, and ate in Livikon which had excellent grilled king prawns, and the fabulous lamb and beans dish

What a place.
What a place. Only one hour walk (or 7 minute taxi ride costing only 10 euro) to reach Sougia from the monastery estate guesthouse.
Locals were friendly and took the time to chat to you about your travel plans / share local knowledge. The food in every taverna we ate in was high quality fresh local produce and the prices very reasonable. Could pass an entire day on the sunloungers, listening to the sea then going for some Greek food, then watching sunset. Also Lissos is nearby - we didn't manage to visit but we took a boat trip to palaiochora beach which was lovely. Didn't beat Sougia though!

Strategically a great place for the Samaria and Irini Gorges. We self catered so didn’t go into town other than to the mini markets where you can buy everything. The ferry to Agia Roumelli and Paelochora go from here too.

Sougia is the place to stay.
Sougia is the place to stay. Small and quiet but with a good choice of restaurants. A bus leaves every morning at 7am for the Samaria Gorge entrance. The boat leaves to bring you back at 5.30pm. Perfect.
Great little apartment in Sougia. Very convenient to all the local hiking trails, private parking, not far from the restaurants but not in the middle of things so pretty quiet at night. Wifi was out in the whole area for part of our stay and was mediocre when it was working but way out there it's not unexpected. Very comfortable and clean! I recommend buying groceries in Chania if you're going to cook while you're there.
It’s in a idyllic setting through the Cretan mountains. You arrive at the tiny village of Moni and drive down a windy road with amazing views until you reach the hotel. You’re greeted warmly by kind and helpful staff who welcome you inside and you’re made to feel at home.
The food is incredible, don’t skip breakfast as it’s the best breakfast I’ve ever had at a hotel (continental is the best).
Nice helpful staff, great location on the beach, close to bus stop, small food stores and restaurants. Clean large rooms included small kitchen.
I had to leave a day early because bus service s were being cut back for winter season (not the hotels fault). Also Park with big gorge hike closed, but I enjoyed the local gorge hike using convenient bus drop off at top of gorge.
Simple but clean and comfortable accommodation in Sougia.
The hosts are very friendly. Quiet and good location, close to beaches, shops and restaurants.
The kitchenette in our room was well equipped to make your own breakfast. There is also a shared kitchen if you booked a room with fridge only.
We would definitely recommend to other travelers and also stay again next time.
Galini was the first hotel as one enters Sougia by car, and we were able to check in immediately to the rooms we had booked. Quiet and well-kept hotel. Comfortable rooms. Helpful property manager. While it may be the furthest hotel from the beach, Sougia is small and the walk to the water is 5 minutes. Can't go wrong here. Easy parking.
Conveniently located but quiet. A very small well run family owned hotel a block off the beach. Helene also owns the small convenience store next door, great for ice, wine or what have you. We stayed in the top floor apartment with the loft bedroom. The apartment has everything you’ll need for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks.
Location was key to catching ferry to and from Sameria Gorge. By staying in Sougia we didn't have to arrive early or more importantly drive back in the dark after the hike. Although it was the end of the season we received excellent service and enjoyed our balconies room during the full moon.
The best thing about this room is it has a hammock to take your afternoon siesta in .
The manager Chris is amazing as well so helpful with a really personable way about him .
The bed was comfortable & the room a good size .
Don’t book anywhere else in Sougia this is the place to stay .
The Syia Hotel is a lovely place to stay while visiting Sougia. Marcos went out of his way to make certain that we had everything we needed, and his hospitality couldn’t have been better! The studio is spacious, clean and very quietly located just off the beaten track.
lovely studio and warm welcoming people. very well appointed with everything we needed. we were about 150 metres from the sea and Sougia has great places to eat amd drink. a very chilled and relaxed place to stay. Parking on site
we will stay in these studios again
Big room with balcony. Helpfull and informative manager (owner) and room service as well. Very quiet and directly on the beach. a good cafe/bar on the beach. Close to hicking tours. The village Sougia has the charme of a former pack packer destination.
The location was lovely, out of the most touristy part of Sougia but close enough to quickly drive down for a meal or to buy supplies. We were hiking the Agia Irini Gorge and it was very conventient for that.
Very friendly host, comfy rooms and a nice garden. Restaurants, bus stop are all very close by. We loved Sougia which is laid back and has all you need to slow down in a quiet atmosphere.
Clean and functional room with a balcony looking onto the busier street in Sougia. It was big and roomy and the bed was amazing. Responsive staff. Fridge and kettle available
A beautiful newly renovated studio with a balcony and comfortable bed, not far from the beach (albeit farther than most other hotels). Good value for money.
