I had a guide for hikes around Chimborazo. I was coming from sea level, so I was limited to less than 4000m for the first couple of days (and some people experience altitude symptoms at less than that). If I had stayed longer I could have done a couple interesting hikes on Chimborazo itself - I was fine after two days here.

Come to Riobamba if you want to climb/bike on Mt.
Come to Riobamba if you want to climb/bike on Mt. Chimborazo and/or visit the markets on Saturday. The downtown is interesting, worth a few hours, but does not cater to tourists. It is a city for Ecuadorians living their lives. The markets on Saturday are amazing. They are some of the most authentic, local markets we've visited. Very little for tourists, just real stuff for real Ecuadorians. If you are interested in climbing the mountain plan on time to get use to the altitude. Riobamba is a good base camp for a few days to begin this process.

I only wanted a bed for the night to break up a long bus trip, so didn't get to see much of the town at all. I'd like to have explored the architecture, and of course the mountains around the town are very impressive.

I enjoyed my stay in Riobamba.
I enjoyed my stay in Riobamba. Closed train station was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Visiting local cemetery was really something! I am writing this comment on my laptop and photos are on my phone but if you want to know more about Riobamba check my channel (Rootsless) on You Tube. Don't forget to like my channel. Thank you.

Riobamba is a good stepping off place to visit other small towns in the region. Sadly, all the churches were closed when I was there during the week I visited. This was disappointing. The city is very walkable and should you need a taxi or bus they are everywhere.

Riobamba is an attractive city that did not seem touristy.
Riobamba is an attractive city that did not seem touristy. We were very comfortable walking about downtown. The empanadas we had from a local restaurant were excellent and very inexpensive. Transportation was very easy, as taxis are everywhere and very cheap. I wouldn’t spend a week here, but we enjoyed it for a day or two, and it makes a great base for day trips in the High Sierra.
Casa 1881 is a beautifully renovated patrimonial house in the heart of Riobamba. The rooms are large, clean, quiet and well-furnished. The owner is very personable, and also loves to cook. This equates to a coffee and cake upon check-in and a beautiful spread of different foods for breakfast with more than you'll be able to eat, and all absolutely delicious. I highly recommend a stay at Casa 1881 if you're in Riobamba!
An absolute haven. A little way out of town with gorgeous gardens, including a donkey. The room was huge and had super comfy beds. We ate lunch and dinner there as well as breakfast because the food was so good. And every single member of staff was lovely but special shout out to our waiter with the excellent English. He really looked after us. Best hotel we've stayed at in Ecuador.
I've lost track as to how many times I have stayed here. It is the only place I like after trying many options offered by other apps. Irma and her husband are excellent hosts who make you feel like you're at your own home. If a homey stay is what your looking for, this is the place. Even better than a hotel. The beds are super comfortable and everything is very clean.
This is an out of the way very tranquil property. If you want the big city, don’t come here. If you want a very relaxed stay in an indigenous town with extremely nice people, this is for you.
Served me dinner and breakfast for a very reasonable fee. They have a museum which is well worth it. Also sell some homemade indigenous products made the the townspeople.
Irma and Diego are super nice hosts! Irma prepared breakfast for us every morning and gave us amazing recommendations on where to eat dinner and what activities to do. If you are in Riobamba you need to take the bike tour to Chimborazo with Edi (biking spirit) and Irma organizes everything! Diego took us on a day trip visiting Riobamba and the views.
Good environment, most of the other travlers were other hikers so easy to find people to hike with or to get hiking tips. They also rent out some hiking gear at the propety. Was fun cooking dinner in the communcal kitchen. 25 minute walk from bus station, 10 minute walk from centro, plenty of shops nearby. Safe location, wifi was ok.
Extraordinary stay, everything was perfect.
The hotel is super nice and decorated with many wooden sculptures.
The employees were all extremely friendly and helpful with all our requests. The breakfast was delicious and freshly prepared every day.
Additionally, the hotel has a restaurant and offers a great selection of food.
We liked everything about our stay. The unique quaint atmosphere of the hotel, the friendly and gregarious owner, Santiago, and the large and tasty breakfasts served at your table. Santiago even made lattes for us. We requested one the first day and after that he remembered and just brought us one.
Nothing to say negatively about this place. We’ve been staying in many hostels/hotels over the last 4 weeks in Ecuador and this was one of the best for the budget traveller.
The staff were so friendly and kind, breakfast tasty, and the bedroom was clean and fresh. Bonus of Netflix too!
Thank you
We love Mansion Isabela and always stay there when I visit Riobamba. The rooms are so comfortable and the beds huge. It's decorated in a beautifully simple yet classic rustic style which makes you feel really at home. The staff are great and always willing to help with a smile!
We had a lovely room and lashes if hot water which after days at hotels where caliente meant lukewarm was absolutely brilliant. The hotel is far away from anything that would cause too much noise so we had a great night's sleep. The breakfast was OK. The parking worked fine.
One of the best stays of our Ecuador trip. The place is full of history and collectibles, rooms are clean and beds are comfy. The staff are some of the most sincere and friendly people we have come across. And best breakfast by far, it’s not to be missed.
The location is great, in the center but still in a more quiet street. A good hotel for a base location but not more. Amazing, strong and hot shower!
The staff provided us breakfast earlier for us to go on a very early tour.
Close to downtown Riobamba. Friendly and helpful owner. Nice kitchen. Breakfast is decent & there are travellers doing hikes in the local areas. Good for the price, would stay again.
Amazing service (staff, food, rooms). Location is convenient (centric but not too much). The hotel support local initiatives (like coffee production, handycrafts, artisanal soaps, etc.)
Viewing the Chimborazo mountain from the entrance in the morning was breath taking. The breakfast buffet was beautifully arranged and decorated in a Ecuadorian country side fashion.
