One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in 45 years of travel. Artistic and funky but also warm, friendly and totally unpretentious. The hotel is an old style property, airy and light with big windows and views to the Pico volcano. It is like a gem of an oasis amidst more recent development on the edge of town, but is only ten mins walk down to the big square and port. Breakfast in the spacious dining room is exceptional and the ladies who run the hotel are charming and helpful. We had the extra benefit and unexpected bonus of the Suite, which was like having your own flat with a terrace! There are some trendy restaurant options down the hill with good food - but rather pricey wine, but we found a couple of traditional older places (Medalhas & Lima) that we liked. For whale-watching, Naturalist are a good science-based outfit and if you are short of time or transport they do an excellent half day island tour too - very informative and not touristy. You can do both in one day!

Needless to say the VIEW!!! I couldn’t believe my luck when I entered my very spacious and comfortable room and saw that view from the French door and the terrace! I had the sunrise, the full moon, glorious Pico, the sea, the meadows, the birds, the lights of the port all in one amazing picture right in front of me. The weather was on my side too! I always close all shutters and go for the dark when I sleep, but not at Alice’s house! Impossible to block the view! The room itself was also perfect, comfy bed, two types of pillows (memory/hard and soft), spacious wardrobe and chest of drawers, TV (not essential for me but there is one), excellent shower, very hot water, BIDET! And in the communal living room: extra towels, hair dryers, coffee and tea and biscuits, kettle, mugs, glasses, fridge. Perfect for breakfast (I didn’t use this facility but I appreciated that it was available). You can par on the road (which is on the way to the Caldera, by the way) or in her parking space in front of the house (steep entrance). On arrival I was welcomed by Alice, super nice and super cool! I saw her just on arrival but if I needed anything, she left her number in the room. So lucky to have stayed in her beautiful house! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Manta Ray Lodge er staðsett í Horta og býður upp á ókeypis WiFi hvarvetna á gististaðnum. Öll herbergin eru með flatskjá með gervihnattarásum og sérbaðherbergi. Very clean and wonderful accommodations within a few minutes of harbor/many restaurant choices. Staff was very friendly and helpful!

Quinta das Buganvílias er staðsett í 600 metra fjarlægð frá litla eyjaflugvelli og er umkringt stórum garði með grónum gróðri. I like the property a lot. It’s a gorgeous place, I highly recommend everyone to stay here. It’s a beautiful farm where you will live with the nature, wake up and go sleep with birds 🐦 have breakfast with a farm and domestic food 🤤 Ana and while staff is so kind and helpful. Thank you a lot with the opportunity to stay with dog, for helping with the car rent and helping and keeping in touch when our flight was rescheduled.

Mar Rosa - Terraço Vista Praia er nýuppgert gistirými í Horta, 1,4 km frá Praia de Porto Pim og 2,1 km frá Praia da Conceição. The property is a house overlooking the beach, the rooms themselves don't have the oceanview per se but have access to a terrace that does. It was clean and the lady who runs it, Alice, is very nice. Location is also very close to the center of town and nice restaurants and right behind a hiking trail along with the whaling/whale oil museum.

Faial Cottage B&B er staðsett í Cedros og býður upp á eldhúskrók og verönd. Gististaðurinn er með víðáttumikið útsýni yfir sjóinn og garðinn og er 12 km frá Horta. Beautiful property, great views over the sea and landscape, very comfortable bed! Hosts were so accommodating and caring and the daily breakfasts perfect! Extra nice touches, like wildflowers in the kitchen and bathroom, helped make it extra special!
