We traveled with our 2 dogs. The Dutch doors are perfect when you have animals. We originally were only staying one night, and we ended up staying three.

The location, the room and the comfort were all fantastic. This was our first time in the area and Carmel is a beautiful seaside town. The hotel was located right on the edge of the downtown area which provided very easy walking to many restaurants, shops and galleries (we ate at Vesuvio right across the road). There is also a small grocery store and wine retailer right next door which is handy. Parking is onsite and close to the rooms. There is a swimming pool but May was a little early for that. The room itself was beautiful with a very comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. It was probably the nicest room we stayed in all trip!

The hotel gave us complimentary champagne for our anniversary which was very thoughtful. Also, when we booked our stay, the immediately called me to let me know that they accidentally overbooked their rooms but because it was our anniversary, they upgraded our room to a suite. The hotel is one of the oldest hotels in Carmel By The Sea. The furniture and art decor is beautiful . It's situated In the midst of downtown Carmel where the art galleries and wine tastings are. It is only a few blocks from Clint Eastwood's Hog's Breath restaurant, which we highly recommend.

No resort fees or parking fees and they allow dogs for a minimal fee. Very clean property located in middle of carmel so you can walk everywhere downtown. Friendly staff. Such a neat little town, some areas look like a fairy village according to my wife. Definitely a art town as there are a lot of art galleries. Overall it is such a cute little town with lots of cool little shops to visit and sights to see.

This is our third time coming to Carmel, and if I win the lotto, I will buy here. It is like nothing else you can experience on the West Coast. There are so many shops, wine tasting, hundreds of wonderful restaurants, and, did I say shopping? We coordinated this trip with a concert at the Sun Set Center. If you can attend a concert there, you will not be let down. It was amazing and within walking distance.

Carmel is a cute, charming seaside town with plenty of shopping and restaurants. Mostly all parking is on-street parallel parking. The Adobe Inn, where we stayed, is located within a block of all the restaurants and shops and even has its own parking garage located below the Inn. At night the town pretty much clears out after 9 or 10, but walking back to the Inn felt safe. The town is also a great base if you are planning on visiting Monterey, 17 Mile Drive, or Big Sur.

The morning and afternoon is the best time to spend it in Carmel. During night time it’s not lit up as you think it would be. But during the day it’s absolutely amazing. All the shops, cafes, restaurants. The walking. Everything is near by. The beach to the town is like 10 min walk. We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days
The front desk manager, Mike, was one of the loveliest people we have ever met. My six year old daughter went down to get me coffee every morning and she and Mike formed a delightful friendship during our five days there. I am usually very uncomfortable in hotel beds, but my daughter and I both agreed we got some of the best rest of our lives during our stay. Extremely comfy bed! The hotel is elegant and charming, and in the heart of downtown Carmel. We would not hesitate to visit again. Lovely stay, thank you.
Very nice little hotel in the middle of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Very nicely decorated and furnished. The location is perfect - just about 10-15 mins’ drive from Monterey’s attractions. The 17-mile Drive is a short drive away as well. Less than 10 mins drive away heading south is the Point Lobos State Natural Reserve where you can do easy hikes overlooking the California coast. Parking at the hotel is very convenient as the lots are just outside the rooms. There are restaurants and markets within walking distance as well.
It was very close to town and we really enjoyed that it was an indepentently owned hotel. The room was spacious and there was a little cute courtyard with a table (it seemed it was primarily for use for the rooms directly off the courtyard, but we sat there anyway!). The fireplace warmed the place right up. It also made a big difference traveling as a family to have 1.5 bathrooms in our room. The hotel itself is a great value for the Carmel area. We would stay there again.
First thing if you do get a room in the block of rooms they have such the best view of Carmel River and all the animal life that goes up and down woke up to a blue heron probably 150 ft from my window fishing line on the river I don't know if you ever seen the movie vacation with Chevy Chase will in the beginning of the movie they show they traveled through Big Sur so I could truly say if the griswalts were going through they would have stayed at the River Inn:-)
Beautiful morning view of the ocean as well as sunsets from our balcony! Very quiet hotel, beds were comfy and rooms were very clean. The fireplace was a nice romantic touch too. Within two blocks of the best Carmel has to offer for fine dining, casual dining and everything in between. Lots of cool little shops and breakfast places tucked along the downtown area, very quaint and easy walking from the hotel. Hotel staff was wonderful and helpful!
Room adequate, bit crowded with furnishings. Location not the best, at top of hill, limited tight parking if hotel would be full. Breakfast basket more than adequate. Loads of construction all over Carmel, no street parking in town and it was off month of January. Could not imagine how it would be in busier season
Love the entire environment of the accommodations. The place is very lovely and comfy. Located not far from the central of the city. The staffs are super nice and friendly and very helpful. Definitely would recommend the place to anyone who interested in findings a place for vacation in Carmel by the sea.
This hotel was perfect for our one night stay in Carmel to attend a concert. It was bright and cheery, very comfortable, clean and a 5 minute stroll into the middle of Carmel shopping. We would be happy to stay here again. Great value in an amazing town and county.
Service and food were exceptional, everything has been recently renovated and is super comfortable. I was able to work remotely from the hotel and enjoy Carmel later in the day, with the beach just 1min away. The hotel is brand new and I can’t recommend it enough!
Excellent breakfast delivered to room. Perfect location in Carmel By the Sea. Staff were outstanding and could not do enough to help. Room was clean and comfortable. Easy access to route 1 with great views and hiking. Close to beach and many restaurants in town.
Beautiful little hotel in Carmel, with wonderful helpful and friendly hosts. Rooms have an open fireplace, ready to use which we really appreciated. Its location is perfect, close to the town centre, nature reserve and the beach.
Cute but definitely a lot of deferred maintenance. Totally worth staying here if the price is good. The staff is nice. It is not walkable to Carmel by the sea attractions, but it is a good safe place to rest your head.
The hotel's location is amazing. It's easy to walk to the beach. The hotel is Old Charm for Carmel with wonderful staff. There are so many places to eat here, but the hotel is also great. It has an amazing happy hour.
Loved the ambiance of sitting out on the patio with the fire pits. That was the best part. Also it was a dog friendly hotel and the other guests were very friendly as dog people often are.
Pros - close to everything that’s Carmel by the Sea. Good restaurant choices within a block walk. If you are a walker like we are, we never used our vehicle during our three day stay.
