Beautiful historic city. We were there for four days and could not find time for all the tours and attractions. I would suggest a tour with Cuenca Bestours. Very reasonably priced for a full day tour. They picked us up at the hotel in the morning and returned us at 5:00 after a wonderful day. If your physically able to hike take a $5 taxi ride to Amaru Biopark zoo. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to hike the grounds. The animals are mostly rescues and well cared for with large enclosures.
Our favorite restaurant was by far Capitan. If you are looking for a gourmet meal this is the place, wonderful atmosphere and exceptional food. Our hostess and waitress were lovely and so committed to our satisfaction. The chef even popped out to our table to ask if we enjoyed the meal. The food was so delicious. I ordered salmon, medium cooked which was perfect with a delicious sauce. My husband order the sea bass and the sauce was so flavorful.
It is quite cool at night in Cuenca so bring pants and a light jacket. It is a bit warmer during the day but not humid like other parts of Ecuador. My husband and I are thinking of purchasing a condo there for seasonal use, definitely will be returning to this beautiful city.

Cuenca is a lovely city.
Cuenca is a lovely city. The architecture alone is worth the trip. The Pumaponga museum is excellent. There are also several nice rivers. Good food, friendly people, easy access to everything you want to see and do.

Cuenca is beautiful, with amazing squares and historic buildings and churches. It is also a city where people live so it has a wonderful safe air about it with amazing restaurants, bars and cafes.
We were going to stay in Quito, but it was quite derelict in areas, and we were constantly warned about our safety and not to stay out after dark...
So, we went to Cuenca and could not have been happier. I want to go back already!

We enjoyed the historic town of Cuenca.
We enjoyed the historic town of Cuenca. There are wonderful things to see just going down the street. There are markets, churches and shopping galore, Lots of wonderful sights to see. The rivers and parks are beautiful. We particularly enjoyed the Pumapungo museum. The Hotel Victoria is centrally located with a great staff (our second stay there.) The breakfast was fit for a king and queen. This is our third visit and next time we want to stay for at least two weeks or more. Taxis are great and inexpensive. We don't do public transportation, but it is easily available. Ask locals if you suffer from <soroche> (altitude sickness) and there are "scrips" for this. The people are warm and friendly. The Sheraton is out of town but near Turi and has a high-end restaurant. The Hotel Inca Real is quaint & historic with a wonderful restaurant, in the historic district. The Mansión Alcazar is nearby if you are on a bigger budget, and has a wonderful restaurant. The museum that is one or two doors down from the Hotel Victoria is beautiful, historic and has a great café as does the Museo del sombrero de paja toquilla (the <Panama> hat that really came from Ecuador) Don't miss the Dos Chorreras chocolate store and I believe they also have lodgings.

A great place to spend Easter week.
A great place to spend Easter week. There is a beautiful cathedral in the center of the city and many smaller inglesas close by. The city is located in a valley at an elevation of about 8,500 feet so it is pleasantly cool year round. Lots of Inca history here predating the Spanish by hundreds of years. The city center is very walkable but taxis and buses are plentiful and very inexpensive. There is also a Metro system.
Perfect quiet location for someone who does not want to stay (sometime noisy) downtown,.
The hotel is surrounded by many other excellent restaurants and 15 minutes walk to Parque Calderon.
Very modern, very clean, great breakfast and coffee.
A superb terrace with a spectacular view of Cuenca with a restaurant that wasn't open at the time of our stay (due to the pandemic) but perfect to enjoy a relaxing evening.
Clara (The owner) did everything possible to make our stay very special. Thank you Clara!
Maria and her family were absolutely wonderful and helped us with so much. Her breakfast's were wonderful, she made us feel welcomed, safe and comfortable. We were sad when it was time for us to leave, it felt more like we were saying good bye to a favorite Aunt and Uncle, she even gave us a ride to the bus terminal and gave us some local horchata and hot sauce as gifts, their hospitality is the best we have ever experienced.
This is quite a classy hotel! Just beautiful with a lot of wood details and antique furniture.
A 4 star hotel which is quite rare in Ecuador. Location is right in the center.
My room had a most beautiful view.
The restaurant was full of elegance and they served excellent meals. Although te restaurant is not cheap it was a wonderful experience to have dinner.
The staff is professional and helpful.
The location was perfect. It was 15 to 20 minutes to everywhere we needed to go. The building was very safe as one needed a key to use the elevator and to enter the very convenient parking spot. The view was espectacular! One of the best apartments I have ever stayed in. I also loved how we had access to a washer and dryer and small personal items such as hand soap, face wash, dish soap, etc.
Beautiful family owned and run hotel in a perfect location. Breakfast was great. They also have a restaurant on site (Arlene, the daughter, is an accomplished chef) and we had a terrific meal on our last night in Cuenca. We were there for 7 nights and it was like staying with family. Joshua took such great care of us. We will definitely stay there again.
Cuenca is very touristy place and thus many visitors compete for the hotel beds. The place was modest but clean, comfortable and priced well. The owner was extremely accommodating and hopped on his motorcycle to lead us through the labyrinth of the narrow old streets to show us the way to the only clinic open on Saturday that we needed.
I won the Room Lotto! I was given room 4, which was obviously the biggest and best room in the hotel. The windows opened right onto Plaza Calderon and the three blue domes. Gorgrous! Hardwood floors, antique furniture, modern bathroom, original windows and doors. The staff was helpful and so pleaant.
If you are looking for luxury this is not the place. It is a basic hotel, the facilities are quite old. I was disappointed that I booked a king size bed and on arrival I got a small bed in the comments mentioned that the plus of the place is the big beds. I never saw a picture with a small bed.
This hotel is very friendly and the price for value is very high. The location could not be better for a visit to the Historical Center of Cuenca. My particular room is excellent for one person...probably too cramped for two. The bed is really comfy with quality bedding.
We loved the hotel. In addition, their staff was AMAZING. Super kind, helpful, were very supportive regarding any questions and concerns we had. We would come back ANYTIME. We had a truly memorable time in Cuenca, and the hotel & their staff made a difference.
Our host (owner) Franco made us feel at home during our stay! Breakfast was varied and delicious accompanied by the best espresso in town. The location is perfect, 5-15min walk from the historic center of Cuenca.
100% recommended to anyone visiting Cuenca.
A great hotel, but a bit outside the city. For business, it is great as it is easy to get to along as it sits along the Panamericana. But it is off the touristy track. There is a nice observation point very close with a spectacular view of Cuenca.
Fabulous rooftop restaurant with great view, food and service. Great location, with view of river (tomebamba) and view over city from rooftop. Good support from employees. Best hamburger we had in town and we've been here 3 weeks.
We love this hotel. Its so comfortable and beautiful. The hotel has a wonderful lobby and restaurant and the breakfast is the best of any hotel I have stayed in in Ecuador. It is very well located in the historic center
Everything. Those guys made me feel like a queen. Amazing service, never skipped the beat. One of the best places I've stayed at. Highly recommend!! 5* service
