The place is accessible from the main road - at first, the navigation lead us through small roads in the forest - avoid them in case you are lead the same (wrong) path :)

The fortressed town of Cuenca is a hidden gem in the province of Castilla La Mancha and is a popular destination for tourists visiting Madrid or Valencia.
Cuenca is best represented in its medieval old town as well as the unique Hanging Houses (Las Casas Colgadas) which stand aloft on one of the deep canyons surrounding the city, and show a prime example of the common housing of 15th-century Cuenca.
Upon visiting the Old Town you will be welcomed by the remains of an ancient Arab fortress, El Castillo along with the chiming bells of Mangana Tower.
There is a variety of art galleries and restaurants which are situated in the newer side of town, whilst popular places to see are the Cuenca Cathedral, Museum of Spanish Abstract Art and the Archaeological Museum.
Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation options near landmarks such as Cuenca train station and Parque de San Julián.

Such an unusual and interesting, old town with plenty of cobbled streets to explore. The museum showing finds through the ages was worth visiting. The highest point of the town has great views across the gorges and some great cafes. The hanging houses are insanely tall.

Cuenca old town is a must in any Spain trip.
Cuenca old town is a must in any Spain trip. We were so fortunate to experience Holy Week festivities and to share with the locals. In addition, we experience intermittent snow which was a wonderful experience. The old town is a jewel with many options to get lost through the streets and to meet locals.

I like to see old historic cities ...even if the "glory days" are over. Cuenca does not disappoint on this count. The cathedral is a magnificent example of this as it is beautifully decorated in parts and equally shows evidence of being somewhat dilapidated structurally..in certain parts.
The "hanging house' theme is a little overworked but it is still very interesting to see what is left of them.
It's sheer geographical location is what surprised me most. The public transport system up and down between the new and old town is very efficient.
I stayed 2 nights...I could easily have stayed 3 to have 2 full days to explore a little more...assuming you can manage the walking...it is rarely flat...you are either climbing or descending usually and it's often quite steep!
I ate at the Piola Gastrobar, which shares the building with the Hotel Convento just up from the main Plaza Mayor. An excellent restaurant in my opinion.

Absolutely wonderful.
Absolutely wonderful. Breakfast was excellent.Dining room was nice, but why would anyone eat there when they will serve you in the beautiful courtyard by the fountain! Pool area is nice, and staffed with a lifeguard. Helpful hint: request a room with a bridge view. We did, and it was gorgeous.

Beautiful historic buildings in stunning scenery.
Beautiful historic buildings in stunning scenery.
Lovely walks especially along river.
Everything in old town close together with regular bus service for other parts of town.
Free parking in Castle area.
Location is great and the nearby parking garage with hotel discount is a plus. The view from the room is amazing. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. This is a modest religious accommodation. We saw the effort that they are trying to do their best. The building is beautiful. Nice old furniture in the building. The room is comfortable and is cleaned every day. The rooms were recently refurbished and looks quite modern. AC worked well! Breakfast was nice with homemade cakes!
The location is the best… the views were amazing. The cleanliness was great. There is a public parking super close the property (not cheap, €22 for 12 hours). The toiletries were perfect. The kitchen was perfectly equipped. I fell in live with the views from the bedroom and the living room. I could stay there for a long visit. I also were impressed with some drawings they found in the property before the restoration (and they show them with the explanation of each).
Free easy Parking. Very comfortable beds. Large shower. Garage, shopping mall, Cinema Carrefour, bars and restaurants nearby. Bus stop 100m, every 30 mins into Cuenca. Staff welcoming and helpful. Lovely park behind hotel. Prescence of the industrial area did not impact on our stay in any way. Very quiet area.
Good hotel for exploring Cuenca. Bus to castillo in town and walk down to explore the attractions of this lovely city.
The hotel was within easy walking distance (albeit uphill) of the old town and a staff member provided us with a map and advised us of the best way to get there. There are lots of things to see, great views from the bridges and many restaurants in the old town. The hotel room was comfortable and there were many restaurants nearby. The hotel organised a taxi to the railway station when we left.
We loved being out of the hustle and bustle of Cuenca but also able to access it by walking 15-20 mins into the old town. The main floor of Paco's home, where our room was located, was nicely decorated, and our room was spacious and comfortable. Paco, as our host, was very kind, and he gave us great recommendations for where to eat in town. Breakfast was fresh, and the coffee good!
The aesthetics and the location of this hotel is superb! The views from our room, the limestone formations are beyond beautiful. Me and my husband are geologists so it is amazing for us. The room is so big and the bathroom is clean and antique. The entire hotel is historic but is modern as well. Top notch if you are staying in Cuenca, highly recommended.
The hotel was fine. It was about 150 metres from the cathedral in the old town so the location was brilliant. The room was fine too, maybe a little small but plenty big enough. The bathroom was good with a shower that worked properly. Oh, and the view we had across the gorge and over to the parador was spectacular. Very nice.
Very comfortable apartment with everything you need. They even had some breakfast foods and snacks, milk and orange juice. Very thoughtful. We got a great restaurant recommendation, but beware Americans, most places don't start serving dinner until 9 PM. Great stay and loved Cuenca!
We stayed in a private room at Green River hostel and couldn’t have been happier. The rooms were as good as a hotel room, spacious, very clean and comfortable. The staff and facilities of the hostel were one of the best we’ve stayed at on this trip. Thank you
The property location is pretty good, not too far from the most attractions. The host did his best to make the communication as easy as possible. He also managed to turn on all the heaters right before our arrival. Thank you very much!
The location was great, within walking distance to the historical area of Cuenca. Quiet and clean and safe. The service from Ana was fantastic, any questions we had she helped us with, including ordering local taxis for us.
Great location and a well-stocked apartment with a great kitchen. Highly recommend. Cuenca is a magical town and the walking trail (San Julian) over the bridge from the apartment is one of the most stunning in the area.
The location was excellent. The room and bathroom were good sized, well equipped, and very comfortable. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel that proved to be very handy for a light evening snack.
We could park our camper outside the hotel on the street for free. We could walk into the old town in under 30 minutes. The manageress supplied a map and guided us to the places we wanted to visit.
Hotel was walking distance to all the things we wanted to see—between the more touristy old town and the more contemporary part of town. Room was just fine, nothing special.
The hotel is in a fantastic location in the very centre of historic Cuenca. The staff were really friendly, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were very clean.
