Big mountain by Japanese standards with lots of varied terrain. Suitable for intermediates and advanced skiers, a little less so for real beginners. Not overly westernised so still has a Japanese feel. Generally very good snow.

My family and I likes few things in this hotel , free washing machine facilities ( only dryer need to pay ) , massage chair and ice cream after onsen . When kids asleep I can go down have free ramen with my husband . The onsen was very nice and private onsen suitable for our whole family. Free coffee , oolong tea ,juice , water at lobby helps a lot when too
Cold to go outside . Free Yakut in the morning was great for kids too . The hotel breakfast was a little bit expensive. We only had once .

Winter wonderland with amazing views.
Winter wonderland with amazing views. Powder snow everywhere, perfect for snowball fights and snowmen making. Local business owners are lovely to talk to. It’s a quiet place and life takes a more relaxed pace here. Stop by at Fukuzushi/ Fuku Sushi for the biggest nigiri you have ever laid your eyes on. The sushi chefs of Fuku sushi have been making sushi in Furano for at least 40 years. Say hi to chef Ohno, he’s a lovely guy and very friendly. Our hotel La Vista Furano was a destination in and of itself. Skiing at New Furano Prince Hotel’s Furano zone for the first time treated us to some of the best winter views and the best powder snow. The only downside would be that there aren’t a lot of readily available transportation options during the winter, so always book taxis or buses in advance.

DAY TRIP IS ENOUGH: If you are not skiing, I would recommend that you take a day trip bus tour from Sapporo Station. All the sites can be seen in one bus tour; best to stay the night and other nights in Sapporo.
JR FURANO STATION (TRAIN): AVOID IF YOU HAVE LUGGAGES: Be warned: no elevator or escalator in this Station, and to reach any platform from the entrance, you need to climb up one steep flight of stairs, walk through a bridgeway, and walk down another steep flight of stairs. Very very difficult if you have large luggages, and not fit!
I would recommend avoiding this station if you have luggages. Note that there is a bus which takes you from Furano to Ashikara station or even Sapporo station, and the travel time between the train trip (with at least 2 train transfers) and the more comfortable bus trip is almost the same. If dragging luggages from train to train AND up/down stairs is an issue: take the bus!

Expected deep powder but spring came early.
Expected deep powder but spring came early. We got there at the end of Feb, just missing a good snow dump, then it got warm and very springlike. Bit disappointing but we'd already had a good couple of weeks down in Honshu. Had expected powder days through March... Maybe just not this year? Can see how the field would be fun with better show.
Will try again, earlier, another year!
So we put away our boards, did the night sky watch tour (saw a deer and a fox too!) , and the yuma dog sledding experience, and walked into town. Small, farming town - not just a resort.

Cosy house with plenty of space for all our gear.
Cosy house with plenty of space for all our gear. Heaters in every room made the stay during winter great. We had a car so travelling back to Furano for dinner etc wasn't an issue. Bedding was comfortable and kitchen had all required for cooking up a meal at home. Great views of mountain ranges.
Underrated. Love that it is tucked away at the corner of the ski zones, overlooking the entire furano. Beautiful balcony view, spent a lot of time there just looking at the town and embracing the silence. Loved the occasional bell that chimes across the quiet town too. It is a walking distance (2-3 mins) to Kitanomine Ski Zone. So if you are heading to Furano in Jan-Mar (when KSZ is open), Chalet Fuyuri is the best value as compared to other accomodations in the area. Driving into Furano is recommended to get the best out of the stay.
Modern, designer apartments right in front of the Kitanomine Gondola Station. From our 5th floor 2-bed deluxe room, we had beautiful views overlooking Furano City and the Daisetsuzan mountain range. The apartment has all the necessary appliances to self cater so it's a great base for those that wish to be a little more independent. The general manager took care of all of our questions with patience and kindness. On-site car park was useful too. A wonderful stay.
Location was great, peaceful enviroment. Didn't had the chance to try out the breakfast however, as we wanted something other than the usual hotel breakfast. But looking back, it was a regret that we skipped breakfast at the hotel since it looked pretty good :c
Hotel staff is very friendly too and understands little english which is a plus ! When we came to check in, 3 lovely cats came to greet us !
A fantastic hostel! This is easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The facilities are excellent, and the staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. If you are a skier or snowboarder, there are plenty of places for you to store your gear, and the bedrooms have ample space for your suitcases and bags. I don't have a bad thing to say about this hostel!
Entire hotel had a nice view of the surrounding mountains. The onsen gives a particularly lovely view in the morning. There are also private onsen rooms available (no reservations needed, you simply enter a free room and are given thirty minutes). Breakfast was excellent and included fresh seafood. There is complimentary ramen in the late evening.
My wife and I Liked our stay at Furano Fenix very much. Everything are very good during our stay. Love the deco & fittings of the room and lobby area. Bathroom & toilet are nicely layout, and bigger than most hotels in Japan. If a couple of clothes hooks can be provided at the bathroom door will be perfect. Breakfast are adequate and good.
Spacious rooms compared to standard Japanese hotels. Loved having a couch next to the tv. Big, delicious breakfast every morning. Gareth and Rika, the owners, couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating. Was thankful for the shuttle up to the lifts every morning, even though it’s a short walk.
Hotel arrange connecting room for my family which is very convenient with affordable price. Hotel location is convenient and near to train station and bus station. Room view is train station and very nice. Will stay again if we visit Furano again.
Great location for our skiing at the Kitanomine Zone. The room was spacious and cosy and we absolutely enjoyed the breakfast and public bath everyday. The building seems quite new. Will stay here again if we go back to Furano.
Great location just 3 minutes to ski lift. Great room design (deluxe quadruple room). Fantastic onsen with all the ammenities. Price for our stay was reasonable. Brand new hotel so everything looked clean, neat and tidy.
Location was near to the ski resort (about 2km-5min by car) and though we were not able to rent a car, the host kindly offered to pick up and bring us to the ski resort every day.
The property is amazing. It’s clean and comfortable. Location is good and close to everything from restaurants to the ski lifts. Perfect for group or small family.
Nice hotel with onsen, private baths, views, massage chairs. Located near the Furano station and restaurants. The Deluxe room is big enough for a family of 4.
