It's not as busy as Tokyo or Osaka but is not lacking in places of interest and dining options. It's very easy to get around just as in other cities in Japan. The underground stations in Gion and Tenjin were a sight in itself. The interiors are not like typical train stations. There were intricately designed iron grills in the ceiling and there were lots of merchandise and food to check out.
It was fun dining at a yatai stall. The owners were very friendly and one of them patiently explained to us the menu that did not have any English translation. The food was fresh and really tasty.
One diner at the yatai stall who is a local suggested a good ramen place. It's Ganso Akanoren Setchan Ramen in Tenjin. She said Ichiran is expensive and "locals do not go there". There was a short queue when we got there around 11:30am the next day. We just waited for about 10 minutes to get a table. We were not disappointed with the food at all; taste and price wise. When we left at 12:30pm, there were about 20 people in line.
It was unfortunate that the Fukuoka Castle Ruins was closed for some work to prepare the place for the Sakura Festival later this month so we did not see it. We visited the Kusida Shrine, Team Lab Forest, Sanrio Characters Dreaming attraction, Ohori Park, Canal City. We went on a day trip to Hiroshima to learn more about history and we came out more educated.

I enjoyed Fukuoka as you get the Japanese City vibe in a slower more relaxed pace. It has so much to offer such as food, sights and shopping. A must visit for anyone who wants to visit Japan. Did I also say, that the people are also very friendly?

We enjoyed the easy train trip to the reclining buddha.
We enjoyed the easy train trip to the reclining buddha. We also visited the Kyshu National Museum, a very impressive structure but more difficult to reach by public transportation. Public transportation from the airport was cheap and easy. We left the second day for Yufuin but next time we will spend more time in Fukuoka.

Fukuoka is an great destination for foodies- although the famous yattai street vendors are over-rated and a tad expensive. The central district of Hakata is a lively party town. Taxis a plentiful and cheap, but we mostly used hired bicycles to get around, which is cheaper still and very practical for non-lazy people. For day trips, there's plenty to see in the surrounding area and for longer trips, there's even more to do in the rest of Fukuoka.
The room I stayed in had a lovely view of the city, and the hotel was situated conveniently close to Hakata Train Station. The room itself has a nice deep bathtub which was lovely to soak in after a long day of sightseeing and shopping, especially if you use the complimentary bath salts and oils located in the hotel foyer.
The breakfast is also very filling and delicious. You can pick from the local speciality, a boiled breakfast or Japanese spin on wester breakfasts, like an omelette etc. all in addition to the buffet breakfast.
Classical APA hotel well located in an area with many restaurants, yatai (street restaurants) and shops. Perfect base to explore the different areas of Fukuoka: walking distance from Canal City, Nakasu and Tenjin, bus and train connections to temples, the bay and the beaches, 10-min ride to the airport... Helpful and courteous staff, as always in Japan. Clean and comfortable rooms, very good breakfast buffet with Japanese and western options, self-service laundry machines... A good choice for short and less short stays.
Located across Hakata Train station and Bus Terminal, the hotel offers excellent access to explore the city and other key attractions in Kyushu. Level B1 is connected to Chikushi Exit 7 (East) of Hakata station offering sheltered pathway to Airport Line. Breakfast is served between a choice of Japanese or Western cuisines and delicious. Room is spacious and interior is new and clean.
Overall, Hotel Miyako Fukuoka offers a five-star stay with top-notch service, comfort, and amenities. Highly recommended!
My friend was flying down from New York City, JFK AirPort when her flight was badly delayed and couldn’t make it in time. The front office staffs are always so accommodative, understanding and supportive! Told us to get in touch with Agoda and they will Not Charge us for it. So beautiful and kind!
Unlike the disgusting and disgraceful Marriott Hotel Surawongse’s team in Thailand! Mean and egotistical staffs. They’ll never come close to the lovely Japanese hospitality.
Very good location - just 3 mins walk from Hakata station and the airport line. The staff were very helpful, despite not being able to speak English that well. I was able to leave my luggage and come back later to check in at 3pm. The room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Loved it so much. Also, the free public bath on the 13th floor was AMAZING!!! Highly recommended!!
The staff are very friendly from the front desk to the breakfast at red flamma! They were all very accommodating! I love our room, it is so clean and spacious enough to fit our luggages & items we bought. If you like a place to stay that is near the shopping area like then this hotel is perfect for you. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Fukuoka!
Location is perfect. Near Hakata station with kombini and restaurants around. Just perfect! Room is more spacious than other Japanese hotels with space for coats, jackets and luggages. T&B is also spacious, with tub! Lobby provides a wide selection of toiletries and shampoo brands. Lather up!
Everything. It’s expensive but you get your money’s worth from the customer service down to the food and hotel amenities. There were so many added extras to my stay that came with what you paid. I honestly want to come back to Fukuoka just to stay in this hotel again. It’s THE best.
One of the best business hotel in Fukuoka with clean, comfortable and above average size rooms. Check in was fast and easy. Hotel staff are friendly and welcoming. It is conveniently located, a short walk from Hakata Station. Will definitely stay there again when we are in Fukuoka.
1. the room size is quite good compares with normal Japan style hotel. 2. very near to the station YaKuIn. but have to transfer to another train by walking 7-8 mins through underpass to reach the airport or hakata station. 3. have 7-8 parking lots which charges 1100 yen per night.
It was close to the airport, but I arrived at night and with a big luggage it may be little too far to walk. Next morning I took a bus to Hakata train station. The bus stop was just around the corner. Nice big bath near the front desk which was better than other business hotels.
Location is very good and near places such as Canal City and Kawabata shopping area, and easy access by subway to other places like Tenjin and Hakata for shopping. Many eateries near the hotel and within walking distance.
Hotel is new and very clean.
The manager on duty (Kobayashi-san) was super helpful! He was willing to help me make reservations for lunch and a cafe as I was unable to do it without a Japan phone number.
The hotel is close to canal city and hakata station. (needs some walking)
The hotel fulfilled my request for a 3-day stay. Staff were gentle and helpful. The room was clean and tidy, with spectacular view to JR Hakata station. Definitely recommend for visitors who are fascinated to japan railways and city-view.
Great hotel base in Fukuoka, clean & comfort, great staff, complimentary 2 mineral water each day, laundry, ice and vending machines provided. Just a bit walk 3 blocks from Hakata station, anyway great exercise everyday.
Literally the best experience for very cheap! Free Japanese bath, free breakfast and pyjamas. Very modern, beautiful and clean hotel. Held our bags for a day. Amazing service! Also close to JR train station.
Great location near hakata station and canal city. A couple of yatai directly near the hotel for midnight snacks and plenty of great restaurants nearby. The breakfast buffet is exceptional of 5 star quality.
Location is pretty near Hakata Station, theres one Lawson near the hotel, the room for 2 is very compact, if u have a big luggage you need to open one by one u can't open at the same time
Near hakata station. Easy to look for taxi. Near the airport, taxi fare is around 1,200 to 1700 yen only going to airport. Friendly staff. Breakfast is good
