Fukuoka is a pleasant surprise, with lots of attractions and great dining within the city.A balanced mix of cultural and modern destinations . The city had a number of temples , museums, beautiful parks while boasting of modern attractions like the canal city fountain show , the E-Zo team lab, the Fukuoka tower viewing deck and seasonal display on its building facade, and the largest moving Gundam in Lalaport. Many shopping places too. Food choices are plentiful, from hakata ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine to international options like Italian, Mexican , American . Lastly, the many varieties of cherry blossoms and tulips in Ohori and maizuru parks made our visit even more memorable.

Nice city.
Nice city. I'm a bit surprise that it's not overcrowded like another big cities in Japan that I've been to. Might not be the best place for shopping but it's about right to me. It's more local Japan to me. I see very few English signs. There are some nice attractions but I wouldn't plan a week long trip with just Fukuoka. There are other cities and attractions in Kyushu that should also be in the plan. You don't really need a car in Fukuoka. It's well covered by public transport but for Kyushu in general it'll help considerably if you like to drive though.
If I'd plan again, I wouldn't drive the whole trip outside Fukuoka. I rather drive in some areas and travel between big cities with train. It make more sense and can cover more areas and attractions.

Loved Fukuoka, it's an underrated city.
Loved Fukuoka, it's an underrated city. As long as you're not looking for a city like Kyoto with lots of traditional Japan, you'll find it to be a lively city with lots to do! The yatai's are a great way to experience food in Fukuoka!

It's not as busy as Tokyo or Osaka but is not lacking in places of interest and dining options. It's very easy to get around just as in other cities in Japan. The underground stations in Gion and Tenjin were a sight in itself. The interiors are not like typical train stations. There were intricately designed iron grills in the ceiling and there were lots of merchandise and food to check out.
It was fun dining at a yatai stall. The owners were very friendly and one of them patiently explained to us the menu that did not have any English translation. The food was fresh and really tasty.
One diner at the yatai stall who is a local suggested a good ramen place. It's Ganso Akanoren Setchan Ramen in Tenjin. She said Ichiran is expensive and "locals do not go there". There was a short queue when we got there around 11:30am the next day. We just waited for about 10 minutes to get a table. We were not disappointed with the food at all; taste and price wise. When we left at 12:30pm, there were about 20 people in line.
It was unfortunate that the Fukuoka Castle Ruins was closed for some work to prepare the place for the Sakura Festival later this month so we did not see it. We visited the Kusida Shrine, Team Lab Forest, Sanrio Characters Dreaming attraction, Ohori Park, Canal City. We went on a day trip to Hiroshima to learn more about history and we came out more educated.
Great location (flat 10min walk from Hakata Station). Location is also close to Canal City, stores and restaurants. There are many people who stay in this hotel so it can feel quite busy but also lively.
My room was a bit small but very modern, comfortable beds with intuitively placed charging ports and lights. Bathroom is clean and modern. There is also a small public bath in the hotel to relax in after a long day, and free icy poles for a treat after.
Overall, one of my favourite stays in Japan so far.
I was able to stay at a very reasonable price in my case. Convenience stores, supermarkets, and the train station are all within walking distance. It takes about 25 minutes to Fukuoka Airport by train. (Transfer to subway at Hakata).
You can use the hot spring and sauna in the annex building for free, not in the hotel. Considering the price and location, I would use this hotel again when using Fukuoka Airport instead of the Hakata and Tenjin area. The staff was also very helpful.
Good hostel, very clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location is good, close to main restaurant and bar areas. I booked a private room but it was actually more expensive than the last 3 star hotel I stayed at in Fukuoka. I’m glad I booked a private because the mixed dormitory room seemed crowded. The bunk beds were comfortable and shower area was very nicely set up, although busy at times. Loved the amenities in the shower area.
Away from the busy fukuoka center, corky but somehow quiet nice facility, deceiving image from a love hotel, close to Ohori park and many “local” Izakaya 🏮 where we could just walk in without reservation and find friendly hosts and guests willing to talk to. Spacious room, nice bathroom settings, unlimited options to order costumes and food to browse for fun 😉
We were able to leave our luggage before checkin to explore the city lightly.
Amazingly close to the Fukuoka Hakata JR station. Extremely clean rooms. Very generous sizing by Japanese standards. Huge bathroom! Amazing shower with multiple jets - very relaxing. Staff were lovely. Check out was a breeze - only took about 20 seconds. Lots of amenities on offer - soaps, razors, hairbrush etc. Like with all Tokyu hotels they have the charity donation if you don’t use the amenities which I love.
We like that the location is not far from city while being near to the older quarters of Fukuoka. The room is slightly more spacious than standard Japanese business hotels and there are many interesting small and good eateries around the hotel. This was convenient as we had several heavy rainy evenings.
The ambience of the hotel is calm and soothing despite being a tourist hotel.
Great location, easy walking to shopping and food options. Parking was available on the property. The bathroom was larger than in most Japanese hotels. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and even spoke English. I was asked if I had my COVID vaccine card, which I did, and for showing it, I received 3000 yen in vouchers to be used at various locations in Fukuoka.
Location is great, not far from Hakata Station and FUK airport
Minimart is opposite the hotel
Bigger room than hotel other i have been
We stayed in 3 bedrooms room and we still have space left to open our 3 luggage
Staff can speak english and very helpful
I would say that the english of staff here is better than any other staff in other hotels that i stayed in this trip
The location is in between of Tenjin station (Fukuoka City Subway) and Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station. The place is easy to walk to this two station to go to other place for travelling. In the same time, we can easily shop and find a good restaurant in Tenjin area (most of the place is walking distance). And the hotel is in a quiet place and good to stay.
Location is at Chikushi exit which is behind JR hakata city. This hotel is the cheapest in Hakata station area. Its about 7min walk to the hotel. Though staff speak little English, no issue when using google translation to communicate with them. Toiletaries including face wash. location and coffee are provided FOC at the lobby area
Although I could not walk to Hakata or Tenjin, the location was still perfect for me - super close to the Tojinmachi station. I could also walk from the hotel to Ohori Park and Teamlab Fukuoka.
The staff was really helpful and friendly.
The lobby was great - there was also a coffee machine provided.
Great location, the 12th floor east side rooms have a view of the Fukuoka airport. There is a subway entrance right next to the hotel building that you can take to get to the Hakata station in about 2 minutes, and to the Ohori Park area in about 13 minutes.
Staff were super friendly the hotel was easily accessed from JR Hakata the room was generous by Japan standards very clean. We did not participate in the breakfast option personal choice but it was available. Easy walking distance to canal city
Good location, about a 10 minute walk to the Hakata Station. Facilities were clean and well kept. This is my go to hotel when staying in Fukuoka. Two sinks in the bathroom is a plus, and plenty of room on the beds.
Few steps to Hakata Station. Helpful staff. When re-check in from overnight stay at other hotel, staff brought luggages to room. Nearby convenient stores. Can ask front desk to reserve a taxi to airport for you.
Its conveniently located near Hakata station, so good if you dont have much time in Fukuoka.
The rooms are nice and clean, classic hotel rooms. The coffee machine in the lobby is a big plus!
Location... Close to subway from airport... Hakata/Canal City has many attractions and plenty of dinning options within walking distance... Hotel Breakfast at Yayoi-oken is great value...
