Nice town with some interesting information and artwork.
Nice town with some interesting information and artwork. Good location for visiting nearby places of interest, such as Ross (fantastic museum and hotel bar here) and the beautiful Lake Kaniere. Stayed only two nights, could have easily stayed four or five.

Hokitika is a welcoming town with a fascinating history set in a stunning landscape. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area - Lake Kaniere, the Hokitika Gorge, Lake Mahinapua, the Treetops walk and the gold town of Ross.

Lovely quirky beach town.
Lovely quirky beach town. So many walks and adventures on your doorstep. Really central for exploring the West Coast. Free activities close by, loved the glow worm cave and chips while watching the sunset. Very chilled, cool place. We were very lucky it didn’t rain while we were there and we miraculously missed the sandflies. Make sure you take spray for sandflies! If you like long walks then this is the place to go for some spectacular scenery.

Hokitika is nice and central to activity up and down the west coast, and there are lots of things to see and do. We had dinner at Stumpers and initially we thought the prices seemed high, but the food portions were huge and so tasty I would definitely go back. We did the Glacier helicopter ride in Franz Josef and The Shantytown and Monteith Brewery in Greymouth. We also visited the gorge but that was all we had time for. Loads of walks and other sites to see we just didn't have time.

Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true.
Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true. There are lots of things to do. The beach is a major attraction with a long area to walk and good sunset views. The town has some lovely greenstone shops and artisans. I always buy something when I'm in Hokitika. There are short walks, Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere nearby.

Beach walks, mountain biking off Wilderness track.
Beach walks, mountain biking off Wilderness track. Tree top walk, gold panning, lots of great restaurants. Check out the Mahinapua Hotel, done great there. Stumpers great restaurant , The pizzeria in Revells st make the best pizzas 🍕🍕Very crowded and busy but managed to serve each and every one. Upstairs at the Beach Hotel and great view while dining, great meal 🍻🍻🥂🥂My husband wants to move to Hokitika, great wide streets and no traffic lights 😃😃
The surroundings were really beautiful and the location was perfect. Not too far out of town so still close to the shops, but not to close to town so it's still nice and peaceful.
Susan, Den and Boz (the hosts dog) were great hosts. Especially Boz, he's extremely friendly and loves to play. Susan and Den are down to earth and make you feel really welcome.
The room was clean, and the bed was super comfortable, and having breakfast provided was a huge bonus.
Would recommend paying them a visit if you're ever in Hokitika.
Cute beach bungalow with a rustic charm. We sat on the deck watching the ocean and sunset. Be aware there is a pasture between the cabins and the beach, so it's not a walk-out situation. The site was quiet at night despite being full. The kitchen had what we needed, although the freezer was very tiny. The AC was good and cold and the staff are friendly.
We received exceptional customer service from the lady who greeted us in the evening and she made us feel comfortable during our stay. It was perfect for our preschoolers and would be so for primary aged kids too. I don't know about teenagers but I'm sure they would like it too. We would call the camping ground directly next time.
Brand new and pristine accommodation with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Great and peaceful location just a short drive to the center of Hokitika and the beach. Kelly the host is very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast provided was very much appreciated. Highly recommend it.
Stumpers Hotel is centrally located in Hokitika so close to restaurants and cafes and also close to the beach. The room was comfortable and clean and the price was very reasonable. The hotel had good food and beverage facilities.
Easiest check in ever! Close to town and in a quiet neighborhood. We loved the comfortable bed and the couches. The kitchen had a full size frig and everything we needed to cook our breakfast. These little cabins are perfect.
Enjoyed the hotel, great location, no ocean view from the room but a short, easy walk to the shore. Hotel is right across from a large grocery store and all the downtown businesses. I wish we could have spent more time there.
Beautiful views, lovely staff, pet friendly and really good value for money. A hidden gem just off the main highway with modern cosy cabins, peaceful park like atmosphere and a gorgeous Tasman Sea horizon to watch the sunset.
Greeted by the friendly and helpful owners on arrival, the Hokitika Kiwi Holiday Park has exceptional facilities! A great set up for families, clean, tidy, warm, and well maintained. Free wifi. Great location, nice and quiet.
Spacious, comfortable room, great staff, laundry facilities
discount voucher in room for local pub, Pioneer Hotel which had a great atmosphere and meals, which we would not have found without a recommendation
Perfect location, all the facilities of a hotel, like washstand in room, plus all the facilities of a backpackers, like a great kitchen, fridge, etc. The perfect combo. And lovely & quiet for tired travellers.
Clean, smart hotel. Had everything we needed and was close to the sea and the village. Restaurant food was great, loved the sea food chowder. A lovely short stop off on our travels down the west coast.
Great location! We loved the Glow Worm Dell, Tunnel Terrace Walk, and the Hokitika Gorge. They were spectacular and super easy to access from this home. The place was comfortable and very clean.
Amazing servicing of rooms by such cheerful staff. Of the 9 motels stayed in this month Hokitika Bella Vista outshone the other eight. Would stay again in a heartbeat!
