Florianopolis or just Floripa for locals is an amazing experience in Brazil. Beautiful nature, and good prices, Uber works quite well there and is surrounded by amazing beaches and offers good meals, beers, and caipirinhas for a fair price. It is a destination to rest and is not as much packed as Rio de Janeiro, with rich and beautiful nature, palm trees everywhere, banana tree, delicious mangos and papayas.

It was great to stay in the central area of Lagoa da Conceição. Neighborhoods in Florianópolis are quite apart from each other and, due to the geography, access (walking or cycling) is not so easy, but inside the neighborhood is very walk-friendly and safe.
You need a car (rented or uber) if you want to visit different beaches and neighborhoods. Get ready for traffic.
I loved Praia Mole and Praia da Galheta (an optional nudist beach), they are both beautiful and great for swimming.
Again, due to the geography, I would say Florianópolis is not accessible for people with limited mobility. You walk a lot (which is great for the contact with nature).

Florianópolis has a lot of beautiful beaches.
Florianópolis has a lot of beautiful beaches. Jurerê, where we stayed, was disappointing. There are many more interesting beaches, e.g. Ponta das Canal, Brava, Ingelses, Santinho, Maçambique, Campeche, Morra das Pedras, all very interesting. Jurerê is known as the posh place of the island with luxury apartments. But at the other beaches you can find comfortable places to stay, if you put some effort in it. We ate best in local fish restaurants, a lot better than in the pretentious restaurants in Jurerê. Traffic in the north of the island is very dense. The (south) east is better. We especially liked the south-west of the island. Quiet villages, houses with small beaches, very peaceful. Next time we will avoid the north of the island.

It was nice to stay one night in the center as there are numerous national and international restaurants and bars. We felt safe walking around. The beach area has a nice board walk with craft vendors and one nice bar but remember the beach is not for swimming. We loved the other beaches close by, especially Jurere. :)

Floripa has everything.
Floripa has everything. There are so many beaches for every possible kind of traveler. Family: campeche, ingleses, pantano do sul, canasvieiras. Surf: ingleses (beginner), joaquina (beginner to expert depending on the day), campeche, and many others. Social/Night life: lagoa, barra da lagoa, mole, joaquina, canasvieiras.
The climate changes a lot, and the beaches too. One morning you might arrive to a beach that looks like caribe, and in the noon it's rainy, windy, stormy. So, make the most and enjoy the good moments (more frequently, don't worry), but also be prepared to get some rainy days too, or even beach days where the waves are too dangerous for comfort.
If you go in January, avoid going to the north of the island (ingleses and canasvieiras), because there's too much people and the sanitation system breaks, and the beaches get contaminated even if you don't realize about it. Check: https://balneabilidade.ima.sc.gov.br/

Floripa is a beautiful, exceptionally safe city.
Floripa is a beautiful, exceptionally safe city. A walker's paradise. The people are polite and friendly. And it is not overrun with European and North American tourists. The nearby beaches are among the finest on the planet. There is an international airport, and the taxis are reliable and cheap. You will love the place.
Amazing staff, very thoughtful and caring. Breakfast was so good, and the option of having it either in the room, garden, or restaurant was so sweet. Furthermore, the location is great, from walking distance to the Lagoa da Conceição with shops and restaurants. My favorite part was the room: very comfortable bed, good space, lighting, big bathroom. I went with my partner to celebrate our anniversary and I felt the hotel contributed to the romantic vibe.
Particularly the warm welcome, kindness of Myrian and Tino who gave us many great recommendations to enjoy Florianópolis. Probably the best hosts we have ever had!
The house was super clean, well furnished, and the kitchen well equipped. Close to the beach in a quiet neighborhood.
The guest house was beautiful. The couple was kind and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. We had an amazing time there and enjoyed the southern end of Florianopolis. And the nearest mall was amazing, quiet and beautiful like the airport.
The location is good in Barra da Lagoa; very close to a bus stop and mini-market. Easy walk to beach and restaurants while being away from the noise. The owner is very friendly. The kitchen is well equipped, and they provide umbrella and clothes drying rack.
I loved this place. The view is beautiful, we had the lake right in front of our unit, host was super attentive and nice and it was located in Barra da Lagoa, its far from the center but some of the most beautiful beaches are nearby. Amazing.
This was likely the cleanest room that we rented while in Brazil for 3 weeks. It was spotless.
The restaurants and convenience stores were both a very short walk. The drive to the airport from this location avoided all traffic.
wonderful room cleaned daily, hotel staff was very responsive, indoor pool/saunas/facilities overall were very good.
