I grew up and lived there. I left the last time 25 years ago and it has deteriorated noticeably since then. Not a great place to visit and I wouldn't want to live there now. Use the by-pass if you can to travel around. If you are hungry, eat in Rockford.

Owen Sound is a lovely community.
Owen Sound is a lovely community. Everyone I encountered was very nice and people chat to you and smile. I am not sure of what there is to do in Owen Sound in January but I went to Harrison Park for a walk and then to Inglis Falls for pictures. There are lots of trails in the area.. As for dining out there are many good restaurants to chose from.

We chose Georgian Bay for a long w/e just because we had read about small vineries around the area in a brochure from LCBO and wanted to taste some wines from here. Two out of three were fully booked, so we ended up at The Roost Wine Co., a family-owned, small (just 5 ha) vinery, where the tasting experience is highly recommended.
So, going back to Owen Sound, we picked it simply because we found this value-for-money motel (Diamond) which we bet on and eventually we have decided it was a good choice all in one. Georgian Bay - as much as we saw of it - is wonderful, not because of its nature and landscapes (esp. beginning of Oct.), but also because its small towns, which have this flavour of an old era and are a joy to discover.
However, reading about the history of Owen Sound on wikipedia, with the piquant & juicy :)) stories of "The Bucket of Blood" and the madam sending her girls (from a brothel) to lure the sailors in; that was delightful itself.

An OK town, Billy Bishop museum is worth a short visit and Inglis Falls offer some nice walking trails ($10 parking). It is at the base of the Bruce Peninsula, allowing for access to a number of lovely spots. We did enjoy Sizzling restaurants in downtown area.

It's a nice little town on the water.
It's a nice little town on the water. We were there for a mid-week funeral so we weren't able to really take advantage of the local attractions. The country-side is very pretty in and around the town and there's lots of local markets to explore.
I was very impressed by Nights Inn in Owen Sound. The room was spotless and spacious, with a huge soft bed and a tidy bathroom. The check-in process was smooth and hassle free, and the staff was courteous and attentive. The price was affordable for the excellent quality of service. Free Wi-Fi was lightning fast, above 100 Mbps (choose the one with "5G" in the title). I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a comfortable and convenient place to stay in Owen Sound.
Have stayed here in the past.Like most post-Covid hotels, could use a bit of updating. That said, if you are looking for a clean room, comfortable bed, decent Tv,wi-fi service, this is for you. Young man on desk pleasant and helpful.Doesn't do breakfast, but close to restaurants.Rooms at front have balconies that overlook the city, but rooms at back are very quiet - no traffic noise. Will certainly stay again.
I’ve been to other motels and hotels in the area and for the price and the cleanliness of the room I’m unsure why the rating is so low . The front desk gentlemen greeted us with a warm inviting smile . The place was under renovations , and even so the room was unaffected and still a place where you could unwind after a long day of chasing waterfalls x3 near by the hotel
I love everything about the Owen Sound Inn! Always such a friendly/familiar place to stay when I’m up visiting my family! The staff is always so friendly, and so welcoming. We stay here every time we go, other than camping season. This stay we had 2 rooms for all of us, and they made it very easy for us to be directly across the hall from one another.
The hotel and staff were great. The only thing I was not happy with was the breakfast- instead of continental breakfast as advertised on the reservation site and tge big sign in front of the hotel, there was a smallpaper bag with unhealthy snack which was not enough even for afternoon snack, but it was included in the price.
I have stayed here on several occasions over the years and I quite like Owen Sound Inn. I have had no issues related to staying here, it is a clean and safe place to stay.
There is no restaurant on site, but the pizza joints in town will deliver here and Owen Sound also has Skip The Dishes.
Older hotel, but very clean. Nice little kitchenette with a good fridge and even 2 burner stove!
The location is close enough to everything, but set back from the road, and very quiet.
Staff were very pleasant & friendly.
horrific experience and with a few staff members
it felt like they were passive aggressive and lack
any communication and hospitality skills
one of my worst hotel experiences and I have
seen it all
The location is good and the hotel is fairly maintained. We stayed there for one night and just need the basic things like a freeze, microwave oven and a bed to sleep in. So, it was overall fine.
Slightly older but quite nice and comfortable hotel. Well located. Room was well appointed and very quiet. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast the next day was very good.
