    Very historic!

Very historic! Lots of active and defunct gold mines in operation and not. We were fortunate that we went with a historian who grew up in K.L. We drove around and through the area learning about the people and where everything was. Apparently the only bank had to borrow cash from the Chinese restaurant owner to pay the miners on payday every last Friday of the month as the cash would arrive on the following Monday by train. Under the whole downtown are long mining shafts that you could access from your basement, so the bank manager would walk through the shaft to the restaurant and walk back with the cash. Apparently, the main office of the bank decided to keep this tradition going until the restaurant owner showed up at the headquarters in Toronto demanding interest on his money. From that day forward, the money arrived on time.

We were there to visit with family that was here from BC.

We were there to visit with family that was here from BC. Took in some of the history of the town and one of the mine shafts. Not a lot of night entertainment and no choice of shopping, but we weren't looking for that.
