Madrid is a large city but Alcalá de Henares has it's own charms, not least that is it much less busy but no less special. The old streets are alive at night as people walk about, before maybe enjoying a drink or meal in one of the many lovely hostelries here.
The town hosts many festivals and we happened to arrive when one was in progress. The community was fully involved.
The town has a history that goes back to Roman times so don't miss looking up the Roman ruins and the ancient university which is over 500 years old.

It is a suburb of Madrid near the highway - fine for people who travel by car or don't mind travelling by train for 35 minutes to get into Atocha in Madrid.
There are some cafes and restaurants close to the hotel we stayed at, as well as some shops and pharmacies.
We were close to La Garena station with a direct link to the centre of Madrid - there is also a metro station in the area.

Very beautiful old town (buildings from renaissance), perfect for a short visit when you're in Madrid. You can also visit Cervantes's birthplace.
Amazing phenomenon of storks who live there in great numbers and occupy major monuments :)

A historical city close to Madrid, with baroque churches and a magnificent old university building plus the Cervantes Museum.
Plenty of restaurants (Spanish, Italian, Indian, etc.) but quite expensive for dinner. And lots of nice bars with terraces under the arcades.

The place is worth to visit because of its old and rich history. If you go there for a week, you can fully explore it. There are plenty places to eat and you can choose any of them because the food is really good. You can easily access Alcala de Henares from Madrid (bus or train).
We visited Alcala in March and saw LOTS of storks building their nests everywhere – on the roofs of houses, churches, etc. The view was amazing.
The place is also famous for the fact that Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, was born here!

Nice and cosy small boutique hotel in the very heart of Alcalá de Henares. Check-in and check out take place at hotel Bedel just round the corner, but it is not much of a trouble. Breakfast is on the expensive side, 14 Euro, but absolutely fantastic: everything is made especially for you, once you order it, and with fresh ingredients. In short, it is well worth the money. Staff is also competent, friendly and always ready to help. Highly recommendable.
The location was right in the centre of Alcalá de Henares. Good connectivity to Madrid City centre by bus and train ( takes about an hour from here to the centre). The staff is unbelievably courteous and helpful. Can't thank them enough. Lots of restaurants und supermarkets nearby. Safe location. Can be a bit noisy at times but didn't bother me personally.
The property is good and decently spacious.
Amazing location, especially if you do not need to park a car (it can be a little tricky to park close to the hotel). Wonderful staff that did so many favors for us. Perfect location in the center of town right across from the Cervantes Museum and so many eateries. Alcalá de Henares has so much more to do than we thought! Not just an airport layover, but worth two nights. Great stay overall.
This was a last minute booking and just a one night stay which was such a shame as we we loved this hotel. The bed was heavenly.. We didnt make it to breakfast as the bed was so comfortable, we slept through the alarm! Room service dinner was excellent and promptly delivered. All the staff we encountered were professional, friendly and helpful.
Location is excellent...
The location was wonderful as was the cleanliness of the property. So many restaurants, coffee shops and the most delicious pastries just steps away. It was perfect for our group. The bed was very comfortable. Soap dispenser in the kitchen was nice. One in the bathroom would be nice as well. Hotel check-in was great. The staff was so nice and helpful.
The beds and breakfast were excellent. The free parking on-premise is very handy and if it is complete you can park on a paid parking for a small extra. Reception 24/7 and very responsive to queries.
Being close to the Renfe Cercanias and bus is a plus since you can get by public transport quickly to most places in Madrid.
The location of the hotel is very convenient, since its very near to the city center and also near a big supermarket. The size of the room was okay and the beds were very comfortable. It also has 24hour reception service and elevator. There was ac as well, which we didn't use.
Don Juan hostel ia a lovely, very good located hostel in Alcala de Henares. It has friendly and helpful receptionist and staff. The hostel is clean, the room itself is not big, but well equipped and cosy. I would recommend it.
