The town is great, the people are nice, but the hotels are in serious need of restoration and updating. I cant get over the fact that almost all the hotels on the coast there do not have proper hurricane protection, whether its shutters or hurricane resistant windows. Any direct hit by a hurricane will spell disaster for most hotels on the coast. Serious upgrading is needed on nearly every hotel.

I love Puerto Plata, the people are friendly.
I love Puerto Plata, the people are friendly. Smile and they will always respond in kind.
Be careful to not wear expensive jewelery on display as petty crime exists in less tourist areas, and cover your all inclusive band while out as you will be seen as a rich american and pestered.

I love the people of San Felipe de Puerto Plata and I love the beaches.
It is a safe place and beauty everywhere with lots to do. I love the downtown area with its many attractions like umbrella street, Paseo de Dona Blanca or pink place, Parque Central and also the many restaurants in the area. One of my favorites is El Patio de Frida. A nice casual Mexican restaurant near the downtown area and also Casa 40 is another one near by.

I enjoyed the beach, pool and serenity.
I enjoyed the beach, pool and serenity. I felt secure with the gated entry and security guard on duty. A list of shopping and dining locations screened by the owner would have been useful, but we vetured and survived. People were friendly and not too aggressive.

Facility was ok. Service was horrendous.
Facility was ok. Service was horrendous. They advertise 3 restaurant however only 1 available per day which required reservations but not available. Food was not very good and very limited options. Bar service - only draft beer and not very good. Bottle beer was additional, even President which should have been inclusive. No mini bar service! Would definitely not be back!!

If you come here stay at the iberostar or playa Dorado you can stay and feel better about grand paradise blue bay . The beaches are better in Sosua and I mostly prefer Cabarate. Playa Dorado beach is ok . Some white sand. Sosua is half an hour away and Cabarate is 36 mins away from puerto plata. If you come stay at 4 or 5 stars the food is better there. . I stayed at Live Marian but as soon as I got there they pressure you to go to a presentation to purchase life time vacations. The food was not good at all there.. I told them I already I own 2 Timeshares and I don't need a 3rd. Property needs to be updated. The swimming pool was fine but the beach area had not been cleaned. Seaweeds all over. No complaints about Puerto Plata . Just stay at 5 stars to enjoy your trip if you want to have good food and relaxation. The best place to visit is Cayo De arena if you like snorkeling or go to Las Galeras best diving there. It's 3 hrs by car from Puerto Plata.. the best beaches are Playa grande Playa Rincon and Playa Calera in Las Galera a small fishing village 40 min north of samana. You can find a good Bed and Breakfast from 30 to 60 dollars a night.

Very calm place. Good location to sightseeing - Old Town ~2km, 27 Waterfalls ~20km. WiFi available in all areas and it is fast. Rooms are small but enough to live - bathroom, wardrobe, bed, table and two chairs is enough for rest after tiring day. Included breakfast are delicious but should be bigger (eggs, fruits, toasts, caffee). Unlimited drinking water and fridge available for all users. Price is unbelievable!
The owners were amazing! They upgraded our room for free, gave good information about everything we needed to know about the hotel and the city and they helped us order our dinner to the hotel and also book a daytrip to the 27 waterfalls in Puerto Plata. The hotel was super clean (our room was cleaned everyday), the breakfast was nice and the pool area was good. This is a very small hotel, but we loved it!
The wonderful place (a Real Dominican Republic Discovery) of great hospitality and a prompt response. Diana is a very attentative host. (I bet, if you have any issues – just let her know and in 2 hours everything will be solved). She has put a lot of effort into building this Dominican gem. Highly recommend to move with a big company/your friends and book the entire hotel. Wish we could stay longer..
We booked 2 separate rooms ... every other room smells mold, the way you cant stand it. The changed it to a room that smells just a little bit mold. Over all this is nowhere near a 5star hotel as you might guessed, it seemd like in the Dom Rep they rate things like they want. In the real world this would be a stron 2star or maybe a 3star.
There is a clean up problem. We had problem with light, water in the room. Then, the way they managed the guests while the fire. For instance, we left the hotel by ourselves to go to another one and we paid for without any consideration.
Everything, this hotel is immaculate and honestly seemed reasonably priced (maybe even cheap!) in the bar and restaurant for the quality. We would have stayed here for at least one extra night if we had known it would be so great.
To visit a foreign country, you would like to taste the food that is associated with that country. That didn't happen, they served American food. So i traveled from America to the dominican republic to eat.... American food?
Very friendly staff and a perfect location are the main advantages of the hotel. The room itself was basic but value for money was great for this overcrowded town. I recommend it for short staying.
I liked the special price, which was much less than what I paid years ago for the Tropical at Lifestyle. I liked the way that they remodeled the hotel. 10 years ago it was very nice also.
The hotel was located close to the historical center and excursion possibilities. It also had different pools so you could go and relax where you wanted.
