The market was very interesting, prices ridiculously cheap and a huge variety of goods on offer .the river night market with restaurants is worth the trip alone . Temple and buddha on the mountain is definitely worth seeing.
It was a pity the smoke haze covered the city from the the temple , it would be fantastic view looking down over the river and city.

Mukdahan is a border town with Laos.
Mukdahan is a border town with Laos. There really isn't much to see there, and better experiences in Thailand can be found elsewhere. There is the Indochina market, which is a large wholesale market close to the river - however JJ Market in Bangkok is much better with cheaper prices. There's a few large temples, however other temples can be found elsewhere in Thailand. There is some excellent Vietnamese bread and sandwiches at the walking street night market, but those can be found in Ubon and Udon.
Getting around is done by walking or renting a motorcycle. You can take a tuk-tuk, but those are expensive.
Mukdahan: Hot and dusty, but a good resting point before jumping the border to Laos.

Went to the restaurant for dinner on the river and it was a wonderful cool evening. Breeze just cooled down the day and you could see the Long tail boats out fishing the Mekong River and Laos across the river too.

Road signs were excellent.
Road signs were excellent. Getting thru town on the 238 bypass was great. IndoChina market was great but no place to park and to far to walk. Friendship bridge viewpoint was excellent. If there were places to eat, they must have been closed, we couldn't find one.

Mukdahan is personal to us due to the temple resting place of our brother and brother in law. This is our sixth trip back.
If ever in Mukdahan a must eat restaurant is Nutpob sitting on the banks of the mighty Mekong river overlooking Savannakhet Laos

Getting around Mukdahan is easy if you have a car.
Getting around Mukdahan is easy if you have a car. Local restaurants are nice, if you need coffee and bakery, I would like to recommend the Good Mook café which is located in town near the Mekhong River. It would be better if you have a friend that speaks Thai or Isan.
The Hop Inn has been one of the nicest properties for its value. The Hotel is immaculate, not just clean, but impeccably immaculate. Beds are very comfy, nice linens, flat screen, tiny fridge, very quiet, late check out fee til 5pm was $14,…manager seems a little “uptight” and needs to breathe and relax. Her employees seems frightened of her.
As the name says, it overlooks the river. Separated from the river by the Indochina market. unfortunately in 2022, the markets are being repaired/redeveloped, and that process appears to be in limbo. So not much to see in Mukdahan! (Apart from the beautiful Mekong.)Room was clean and comfortable, with some nice decorative woodwork.
The staff are amazing, you are very well looked after and nothing is a problem to them. The facilities are clean and well looked after. The location is ideal for Mukdahan centre within a short walking distance, and also within easy reach of an excellent market for provisions of any kind. I will return to Mukda Sawan. Mike.
We liked everything from the moment we arrived until we left. Nothing bad to say about the hotel or staff. The breakfast was excellent. The staff efficient and polite. Parking was safe and clean. A wonderful view over the river. Great bed. Quaint decor. Good bed and shower.
The breakfast was good and the location was good , After it went dark the hotel was in a quiet area but it felt safe to walk about, I stayed in Mukdaharn before crossing into laos , it was only 150 bant from the hotel to friendship bridge where the border crossing is situated
Breakfast disappointing, pool freezing cold, hotel in a fantastic location but is badly in need of renovation
Some of the staff were fantastic while most played on their phones and avoided eye contact
Overall I loved my stay but chose to eat my breakfast at local places
The room was big and comfortable. The air conditioner was cool. It's about 20 minutes away walking from a night market, and about 30 minutes away walking from the Indochina market. It's a good place to stay for border bouncing from Thailand into Laos.
I’ve stayed in 4 other hotels in Mukdahan over the last 4-5 years. This hotel I found to be most satisfying! Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. When I return next year I will stay again.
Lovely hotel awesome position on the Mekong easy access to the restaurants and bars.
Kids loved the swimming pool
Didn't have the breakfast as we where out early every morning
this is a nice place to stay. While I never eat breakfast at hotels this breakfast was actually pretty good, Thai food. The employees were very nice and very helpful.
As ever a spotless hotel. Good location near some restaurants and not too far from the bus station. Staff friendly and helpful, called me a taxi to the bus station.
