Kanazawa was brilliant, especially after Kyoto. While Kyoto was crowded and set-up to process lots and lots of people, here it was so different. The cherry blossom festival in the park was full of people, but it wasn't heaving, like so much of Kyoto, and it was mostly Japanese people. There's so much to see and do here! People were super friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The castle area is beautiful, especially at night. The various Chaya areas were pleasant too. We rented kimonos and went for a rickshaw tour around Kanazawa, which was a highlight of the whole trip.

We spent 4 days in Kanazawa.
We spent 4 days in Kanazawa.
Taking time to enjoy beautiful parks during cherry blossoms.
Parks looked like from the postcard, presenting top level of Japanese garden art. Including windy paths, streams, small bridges, bonzai trees. Elaborated to every detail.
City walls impressed me, and at well preserved samurai district we could find out how the life looked like 300-400 years ago.
If I will have more time, I will spend couple days more here.

If you love to go to traditional food markets, this is the hotel to book. You just have to cross the street to go to the market and you can practically eat all your meals there and the price is so reasonable. Caveat here, if you eat at the stalls, you will have to eat standing up in front of the stall but it is great that you can move from stall to stall to taste different foods. However, there are also restaurants inside.

Kanazawa is a great place to visit and to have as a central point to head out to other places. From Kanazawa we went out to Kurobe Gorge which is such beautiful country side. Hotel Intergate staff we excellent. Pretty much anything you needed, they would tend to. If going back to Kanazawa, I would stay here again.

I travelled into Kanazawa on the Thunderbird Express train.
I travelled into Kanazawa on the Thunderbird Express train. The station is modern and attractive and a short walk from all the main attractions. There is the Omicho market, geisha and samurai districts, a 400 year old castle and a modern art museum. Places to eat were plentiful and catered for all tastes. The two main attractions for me were walks along the river which flows through the town and the stunning Kenrokuen gardens.
Everywhere was within easy walking distance and the people were so friendly and welcoming. My lack of Japanese was never a problem.

The Samurai houses, Kenroku-en and the historical center are the best part of the city. Book a couple of days in advance the bus if you plan to visit Shirakawago because they might be fully booked. The inside of the castle is not as nice as I thought.
The hotel is conveniently located, close to the main attractions in Kanazawa. We were delighted with Alex, he was incredibly helpful and recommended us a great place for dinner as it was Tuesday and all our references were closed (ended up being one of the best dinners we had during our stay in Japan).
The rooms are spacious and comfortable.
The Music bar was the perfect bonus to our stay in Kanazawa, good vibes, great music and great drinks! Definitely we do recommend it and it will be our choice to a future visit to Kanazawa!
A nice and large hotel pretty close to the Kanazawa train station. To reach the hotel you need to walk about 5 minutes from the JR train station in Kanazawa.
The room we were in was quite large compared to the rest of the hotels we stayed at in our trip to Japan.
The staff was very kind and even helped us ship our luggage to the next destination.
The room was large, clean and included everything we needed.
In addition, the staff provided us with a small present because we were celebrating our honeymoon :)
Staff was wonderful, very courteous and warm. The hotel was very clean, room was spacious, and the bathtub (with jet sprays) was excellent. The hotel even provided bath salts. As it rained the entire day when we were in Kanazawa, we spent almost the whole day in the room. If it wasn't for the lovely hotel, the trip would've been a big disappointment. Hotel staff were also very accommodating and helpful to meet our dietary restrictions. We really appreciated that.
Motoyu Ishiya is a 230 year old hotel just outside of the historic city of Kanazawa. The property itself is stunning, the photos do not do this place justice. It is a very spiritual place where you can’t help but feel at peace. The staff are exceptional and accommodate English speakers to the best of their ability. The meals included are very traditional and require an open-mindedness from foreigners. I look forward to returning in the future.
Beautiful hotel and amazing service. Natural stone and wood everywhere - every area was beautiful and relaxing, and smelled great. Room was beautiful and clean (again with natural stone and wood), they gave us pyjamas and free drinks, etc. Staff were all extremely polite and kind. The location was great, on a beautiful quiet street, and close to the train station. I highly recommend this hotel in Kanazawa.
Loved the novelty of the dinosaurs at check in, and the human staff were also very helpful! Room was fairly large, and the bed was longer than other doubles we've had in Japan which was a pleasant surprise. Hotel itself is really well-located along a few major bus routes from the train station, and a short walk away from some of the main Kanazawa tourist attractions. We couldn't have asked for more!
The room was very spacious and the conditions were immaculate. My wife and I both agreed that the shower and bathtub were the best bathing experiences ever. Even better than trips to Sonoma spa resorts back home in California. The two bedroom set up was perfect for our family with two college age kids with us. I’d go back to Kanazawa just for this hotel room.
I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. During our three weeks in Japan this was by far the most spacious and beautifully designed hotel we stayed in. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, the bar served delicious sake and noodles on an evening. The room - wow. Definitely stay here if you are visiting Kanazawa!
Bit of a walk from Kanazawa station but good middle ground between the station and the city‘s main sights.
Very new hotel, lovely room with enough space (by Japanese hotel standards).
Great breakfast buffet!
Overall really good, in particular for the price! Would absolutely stay here again.
lovely little boutique hotel in a great location. staff was very helpful. room was basic but comfortable, and great value for cost. hot tip: ask the staff to help you make a reservation at Kourinsushi, a delicious and affordable sushi restaurant 3 min walk away next to Kanazawa Castle Park.
Small, welcoming and charming. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. They gave us many suggestions for visiting and enjoying Kanazawa at its best.
Yurika gave us the best restaurants adresses.
You feel like home at Hotel Pacific.
I recommend it 100%.
thank you for being so nice.
Comfortable hotel, varied and delicious food, friendly staff and very helpful in looking after our belongings when we couldn't return to the hotel due to the Japanese earthquake on January 1 2024, close to Kanazawa train station, just a 5 minute walk. our family loves this hotel.
The hotel is located about 15 minutes walk from the Kanazawa station, and across the street from Omicho Market and a mall with food hall. It’s also within walking distance of tourist attractions so it was very convenient. The staff were nice and helpful.
Walking distance from Kanazawa station. New modern hotel. Shower/bathtub room was large for Japanese hotel standards. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was good downstairs in the Italian restaurant. Convenience store right next door.
Great location - we walked to and from Kanazawa station to the hotel and were easily able to walk around to see the sights directly from the hotel.
Clean room, reasonable size.
By far the best value hotel we stayed in whilst in Japan.
Absolutely loved the public bath. Very relaxing after long days of walking. This hotel was at the heat of everything and I did not have to travel far to get to all the hot spots of Kanazawa.
Amazing hotel with a great atmosphere! Nicely designed interior and very welcoming staff. 10 min walk from the Kanazawa station. Nice Japanese breakfast.
Everything about The Hotel Sanraku Kanazawa was incredible. Elegant, very well situated, friendly, and reasonably priced for such a remarkable lodging.
