We did not explore Huairou but rather stayed overnight in a small village nearby to be able to access the Mutianyu Great Wall early in the morning before the tour groups arrived. It was completely worth it!!! We were there just as the visitor's center opened, bought our tickets, took the shuttle bus, then the cable car up to tower 14 and walked all the way to tower 23 and back with literally two or three more people. By the time we came back the place was already swarming with tourists. We walked to tower 6 and took the toboggan down which was a very big hit with the kids (and the parents alike). Best decision to stay nearby overnight as it allowed us to take some nice shots on the wall without a thousand people around.

First of all: it was right in the mountains.
First of all: it was right in the mountains. Every morning we watched the sunrise from our bed, took early morning strolls up the street, had breakfast at the restaurant (not on property). I liked that we had to take the short walk to the restaurant as it forces you out and into the beautiful surroundings. It was very close to the Great Wall and we also took a short didi drive to Qinglong Gorge. The food at the restaurant is amazing and fairly cheap compared to Beijing. The leg of lamb is an absolute winner! The stuff did their best to make us feel comfortable and welcome. We will probably be back in a couple of weeks. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at Beijing Huanhuacheng water !
We really enjoyed our stay at Beijing Huanhuacheng water ! The room is well located and the view from our room was exceptional ! The owners of the place we adorable and really sympatics :) They also have a restaurant on the first floor and the food is really good ! The room was clean and I definitely recommand this place. It is right next to the Great Wall (Huanghuachen section) .. 2 minutes walk. You can either go on the restored part or on the non restored part from this village. It is easy to take the bus to go wherever you want ! Thank you again ! :)

We visited the Great Wall of China on the first day of our visit. The second day we hiked up to an area of the wall that had not yet been restored. The weather was perfect for hiking both days we were there! ❤️ The kids enjoyed riding the giant slide down after we had explored the wall. Ages 6, 4, 7 months.

Proximity to both Beijing and the Great Wall (Mutianyu) is great. It's a bit out of the city but close enough to make a short or long weekend. Lovely scenery, lots of birds, very clean river and reservoir, stunning views.
