We have stayed in Narrabri before and when traveling the Newell Highway will always stay there. The bakery in the main street is to die for. This is our second visit and that was the first place we went to.

Interesting and tidy.
Interesting and tidy. Adequately served with day to day needs and no doubt mechanical.
Main reason for staying was to visit Mt Kaputar. First afternoon was mist shrouded. Still a lot next morning so views obstructed. But not raining. We enjoyed the drive up and short walks.
Plus visited Sawn Rocks which were interesting. Took this route to Glen Innes.

Great safe stop-off place for a lone traveler.
Great safe stop-off place for a lone traveler. Very Friendly and accommodating staff. Close to the Newell Hwy without the traffic noise. Close to Macdonalds for a quick early morning coffee for the road.
Property is dated but very clean.

I visit Narrabri for work fairly regularly, however I am planning to take the kids out for a visit as it is beautiful. Friendly people, nice country town & the scenery is quite different to where we live on the coast.

Sawn rocks was well worth a visit. Made it memorable.
Sawn rocks was well worth a visit. Made it memorable. Also a walk to the cinema which was a big thing for our family as we don't live near one. We should have made the visit only 1 night rather than 2. Travelled to Moree for the second day just to see something new as nothing left to see at Narrabri on the second day.

We would have liked to spent more time there especially in the Mt Kaputar National Park which looked spectacular from a distance, when driving into Narrabri but were committed to getting home after a road trip.
However we did get to see the Sawn Rocks, which were easy to access with a good, safe walkway. I feel very early morning would be the best time as the sun would be shining directly on the rock cliff highlighting them with sunrise yellow light. There were three other family/couples on the path so felt quite safe. The walkway was easy to navigate and quite safe for a couple of 75 yr olds. The final part down to the base of the cliff was a bit more demanding but had good condition steps down to the base which was in its natural condition, again, we had no problem. There was good parking, picnic tables and BBQ at the top if required.
The other venue that we really liked was the restaurant at the RSL which was called the "Outback Shack". It had a theme of the old country days, wall paintings depicting a country town and old farming equipment with plenty of significant exhibits, together with reproduction galvanized iron roofing/sheds. I would say that it was the most enjoyable restaurant atmosphere that we have experienced.
The food was excellent, good quality and enjoyable. Would consider it a must to visit.
There are a number of other features in the area that I would like to see including the Australian Deep Space Radio Telescope Array, Australia (ATCA), but unfortunately didn't have the time.
It was quirky. It was like a place out of Sherlock Holmes’ London- but it was Narrabri. A back street with a side entry that took you up an industrial stairwell to a luxurious apartment. All the mod cons. Wicked yummy comfy beds with thick white sheets & doonas. We had breakfast on the fire escape, high above, looking out over all the back lanes and alleys of this very old outback Australian town. We sat in a dining alcove, poring over maps with flooded roads. We loved this old flour mill.
Tallowwood is beautifully and luxuriously furnished, it is very clean, rustic and cosy.
Everything is provided, it is a home away from home.
Town centre is just across the bridge over Narrabri river.
We especially like the host who even paid a visit in person to greet and welcome us.
Perfect for large family.
Highly recommended.
Check in was easy and friendly. Room was adequate with split system reverse cycle air conditioner - important in winter! Two fridges! One a small bar style fridge and the other a larger fridge with separate freezer. Close to the Namoi Hotel which served delicious lamb shanks for dinner.
The cabins are tucked away in what feels like a private location despite being on a main road. With friendly staff and great value, we will keep Highway Tourist Village in mind next time we are passing through Narrabri.
friendly welcome, everything you need for a comfortable motel stay, enjoyed the pool and they provided pool towels which was a really nice touch. also the Thai restaurant in Narrabri was outstanding.
The room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Great space to work through the day and relax at night. Very impressed and this would absolutely be my first choice in Narrabri.
The managers of the motel were really friendly, helpful and welcoming. The facilities were very clean and tidy and had everything I needed for a stopover night in Narrabri.
