Quiet location but out of the way. Secure car parking
Spacious bathroom, fridge in room.
Great place to stay.
Not far from our accomadation we had great restaurants. Vietnamese/ Thai/Greek/ Italian and Indian all on one intersection and a German Bavarian 500 mtr walk as well.
The river walk is great and we bicycled the 20km bike track along main beach and the river.

We didn’t stay in Mackay, but chose to stay at the Dolphin Heads Resort about 10kms out of Mackay. A very picturesque beach, there is an amazing old pub on the headland with the most beautiful view. We had dinner at the Resort Restaurant, and a very comfortable, quiet and enjoyable one night stay at the Resort. Well priced and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We will indeed stay there again and recommend this place to all.

We didn't plan to stay at Mackay, it was the final stop of our road trip and that's where the airport was. Airport only 10 minutes' drive from centre of Mackay, where we stayed in a motel. Plenty of restaurants nearby. The Lagoon area is lovely and very quiet on a weekday when we were there. We walked the Lagoon trail which was pleasant but much longer than anticipated as not very clear signing after you had reached the bridge over the Pioneer River. We should have just taken Sydney Rd back to town but ended up along the river and at the ocean at Iluka Park. Then another 2km into town. Great shopping centre in middle of town. We visited Cape Hillsborough and stayed three nights as it was so awesome. Trails to walk, great beach, wildlife. We saw a goanna, lots of birds, smaller skinks and of course the kangaroos at dawn. Visited Sarina Sugar Shed, which was very interesting after passing all the cane fields.

On checking in, we were given a room on level 1, with no view. The street noise was almost unbearable. We requested a change and the staff kindly moved us to a river facing room. The view was lovely, but to be honest this accommodation is sold as river frontage. It is in actual fact a block away from the River with large buildings obscuring the view. The location is perfectly central though with great accessibility to shopping. We recommend that upon booking your accommodation, to ensure what type of room you will be placed into.

I did visit a beach don't know it's name.
I did visit a beach don't know it's name. Very clean and appealing lots of trees and some birds. It was low tide and sand which I walked out on right out into the ocean. The place was busy for a city but you can get around reasonably easy. Been here before. Marina great to see. Biotanic gardens worth seeing. City centre nice to walk around. Worth coming here for a look.

Beautiful city it would be a must to have a car to get around as it very spread out or be comfortable on public transport however then you would miss out on some great beaches or lookouts a car is highly recommended.
The rooms were of excellent quality. Ive stayed at the at many big name hotels from australia to dubai to the US (up to $700+ per night) and surprisingly, this place, hidden away in Mackay, seemed to have spent more on the rooms (tiles, bathroom) and the room i stayed in had a pretty huge bathroom given what I paid for for that room.
Also the manager was pretty accommodating and booked a place very last minute. I checked in quite late, BUT was greeted with a warm smile. Thank you.
High standard & beautifully cooked meals - breakfast & dinner, yum.
Rooms were clean & comfortable.
The hosts do go the extra mile to make your stay a great experience.
Only booked in for two nights initially but extended by another two nights as we were very content to stay longer.
The motel is located very close to the inner city of Mackay & Canelands Shopping Centre for the shopaholic.
Cathy the receptionist was extremely helpful. There was a misunderstanding with the room I initially booked. Cathy did everything she could to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. She made me feel welcomed and valued.
I will definitely choose Direct Hotel Pacific Sands again at my next Mackay visit.
Quiet rooms (despite being adjacent to the airport), comfortable beds, convenient location (for me) - probably still the most cost effective stay in Mackay. The rooms are "economical" with their sizing - these aren't rooms you lounge around in - although there are communal spaces elsewhere in the hotel.
Location is a bit out of town with the airport close by. But, the location to the beach is fantastic and just a short (100m) walk puts you on this long stretch of beach. Absolutely lovely. Unit was good with heaps of cooking equipment which actually worked.
Clean, large room in a good location close to Mackay City. Ideal for a few days stay. Handy to have a washing machine in the room. Large bathroom and comfy beds. Meals available at the pub next door. Even though was busy it was not noisy.
Hotel is in a great location, minutes drive from the city. Very comfortable rooms. We travelled with our dog and the room was a great set up for pets. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Would highly recommend. Nice a quiet too.
Staff were very friendly & efficient.Room was clean & basic but for an overnight stay was fine. Food smelled fantastic. The Met is pretty much on edge of CBD. YES would definitely stay there again if in Mackay. 👍👍
