Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

I liked the cooler weather after living in Queensland and Nortern NSW for 60 years where it is too hot for me.
I like the fact that lots of history has been preserved.
I found there to be a shortage of eating venues, I couldn't find a nice, reasonably priced place for a good meal. The public transport is good but reality doesn't always agree with what is noted on the internet.
I followed timetables but sometimes the bus didn't run any more eg Cornelian bay had most of its advertised services cancelled. I depend entirely on the buses or walking as I do not drive so the bus service is very important to me.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 9 day stay in Hobart.

My 2nd time in Hobart. The last trip was a decade ago.
My 2nd time in Hobart. The last trip was a decade ago. Hobart gives a different vibe from the other cities in Australia. Tassies are very friendly & made me feel at ease. The city is very safe & I do not have any issues walking alone during the evening.

A picturesque city choc-a-bloc with elegant historic sandstone buildings.
On Day 1 after the drive up Mt Wellington to take in the superb views, we visited the Cascades Female Factory, the Botanic Gardens and then strolled around Battery Point and dined at Salamanca Place.
On Day 2 we enjoyed the scenic ferry ride to MONA and had a fabulous time there. (Bear in mind that it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.)

Here's what.
Here's what. When I booked, I imagined that it would be a regular room with a space where I could have my suitcase and so on. I didn't imagine that it would be a cubicle. The idea of my 'room' is not applicable to this situation. This refers to the room, which I felt didn't allow me enough space to be specific.
Hobart was wonderful. I should have booked tours I wanted to do immediately. I bought food mostly from businesses in the mall and Woolworths. I had cereal at the Wharf and a small bowl was AUD16. A tad bit expensive, I'd say.
Getting around Hobart was really easy and I would return to Hobart for longer next time.

We liked most the Salamanca Market area, which is very nice and friendly area with art shops, inviting restaurants and just sit at street set-up tables sipping some fantastic Tasmanian red wines.
Our favourite eating out was Franklin Wharfs Restaurant, just short walks from Travelodge Hotel. This Restaurant is very well set up,
very inviting and full licensed .
Hobart is indeed a very walkable tourist City, has well organised street and traffic system, no need to use the public transport, better to walk around.
My studio apartment was very well appointed - the kitchenette had everything I needed to prepare meals and the washing machine and dryer in the room were super convenient for a week-long stay. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Location is also convenient - a short walk to the waterfront and into the CBD, with the added convenience of an airport bus stop at the front door. Also plenty of cafes and restaurants, etc in easy walking distance.
Room was massive, bathroom was modern with everything you needed. Nice coffee setup. Cleanliness was 10 on 10. Staff were super efficient and the icing on the cake was when the lovely woman at reception offered us her free parking in front of the hotel so we could spend the day in Hobart without having to look and pay for parking on a busy Saturday. Location was also amazing, right in the wharf central area. We enjoyed our stay here ..I'd highly recommend to anyone.
Excellent location and corner room had windows on three sides with views of Parliament House and the waterfront.
The food in both restaurant and at the pub was varied and delicious. Breakfast was also included in the tariff.
The reception and staff especially Nuri, Yolanda, Brock and Dave were very friendly, courteous and professional as well as very supportive when I was ill.
Highly recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Hobart.
We booked 2 rooms and they were next to each other. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The view of the marina from our rooms was beautiful. Breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The parking facility adjacent to the hotel was a plus.
We're back in Singapore and had highly recommended another friend who will be visiting Hobart with his family in December to stay at Wrest Point.
The apartment was good for self catering, very large and modern. We didn't realise that it was right next to the main restaurant area in Hobart, which made it easy to walk along and decide where to eat. The secure parking was worth the small extra fee. To walk into the CBD and waterfront was maybe 20 minutes, or a 3 minute drive. The local supermarket was a short walk.
For a hotel as cheap as this, I wasn't expecting much beyond a place to sleep. I was surprised to find it just as warm and cosy than the description, if not more so; the proprietor was a lovely lady keen for a chat and a good laugh. The breakfast was just the basics but all I needed and in a lovely dining room. This will be my place next time I visit Hobart.
It was new, clean and quiet, very contemporary with a cool vibe, good food and good service. Sagar greeted us enthusiastically and gave us a lot of information about the surrounding area and made reservations for wonderful restaurants on the waterfront. The hotel was in a great location. Highly recommend it!!
We loved staying in a historic hotel that has been renovated tastefully to match its heritage. The location was perfect to explore Hobart by foot, The staff were without exception friendly and helpful. The bar was lovely place to relax and have a drink and the pianist/singer on Saturday was a bonus.
Great location for casino events, need to use an Uber or taxi service for hobart events. Car parks available, spacious room with a couch and small dining table. Not the modern place if stayed but we don’t go away to enjoy our hotel. Will stay again, clean, tidy and great pricing for Hobart
The staff were extremely helpful. Due to a funeral, we needed to extend our stay and also book accommodation for other family members. Although the hotel was fully booked, Sarah managed to shuffle bookings around so that we could be accommodated. She couldn't have been more helpful.
The apartment was centrally located in Hobart and we could walk to any of the nearby attractions. Exceptionally clean and spacious just what we wanted for our stay. Recommend apartments rather than room so you can be more self contained and not on top of other travelers.
Crown hotel is located in the heart of Hobart CBD. Hotel facilities are very nice. Service was also great which is not offered by many other hotels in Australia, there is beautiful open deck where u can chill and enjoy fee drinks. Overall great experience
The view from our room was spectacular, overlooking the Harbour! Central location within Hobart to easily walk to most restaurants and key attractions. Dinner was good quality with varied options. Cheap parking per night if you are staying at the hotel.
Central location, low season upgrade from a lovely host who also extended our check out time to accommodate our evening flight. A stunning hotel cat with perfect manners was a bonus to pet every day. Will definitely be back next time we're in Hobart.
A great balance between a hotel and serviced apartment. Smooth check-in with 24 reception, Car park on site (rebooked) and a spacious room with plenty of space. We made use of the onsite bar and restaurant for breakfast and dinner.
We did not expect accommodation at this high level standard this far away from Hobart.
With the hotel so close we had access to all ammenities as well as meals and drinks. Its the perfect location for access to the Airport.
Location. Close to North Hobart restaurant strip and only 10 minutes into Hobart water front and Salamanca Place and Battery Point. Would stay again and recommend to family and friends.
the hotel was directly across from the wharf. There were good restaurants close by. The staff were very nice and helpful. We would stay there again if we were in Hobart
Fine decoration and full of light everywhere in the house. Full of space for an extended family to live here. We love to stay there for vacations in Hobart.
