We have now stopped twice at Coober Pedy, once for lunch and fuel, and this time for an overnight sleep driving to Darwin and have no desire to ever return. Only reason to go there if you really need to stay underground or are interested in the mining history. The town has nothing to recommend itself.

Our favourite place for dining was the Big Winch 360 with a wide variety on the menu. The food was delicious too.
Our favourite places were the Breakaways which we visited twice in our three days stay. This was by far the highlight of our visit. We also visited the following exciting places:
1. Underground Serbian Ortgodox church
2. Underground Catholic Church
3. Old Timers Mine
4. Umoona Opal Mine and Museum
It is very easy to get around Coober Pedy

It's a town that you can't see enough of in one day but I wouldn't spend more than a couple of nights. There is so much local history to soak up and a bounty of tours and attractions. I highly recommend John's Pizza Bar for food and the Old Timers Mine for a good experience of mining and 'dugout' living. The Breakaways were closed due to rain during our visit, so we only checked out the Moon Plain and the Dog fence.
The town is easy enough to navigate with some of the smaller roads feeling very informal.
Wow how stunning! Feels like you’re walking into the flinstones house then smacked with gorgeous modern interior mixed with the uniqueness of the underground! The host was super easy to communicate with, the cleaners do an unreal job- seriously spotless place not a spec of dust or dirt. If you know Coober Pedy, that’s damn near impossible! Super cosy, warm, beautiful interior and location was fantastic. Honestly the value for money is insane! My pup and I enjoyed our stay very much, I wish we booked for longer!
Didn't like a thing! It was the worst place we stayed in our 3 week holiday. We stayed at another place in Coober Pedy on our way North, same price point, entirely different experience. Cannot recommend this place in any way!! There are much better places (at the same price) to stay in Coober Pedy. Do not stay here! It was cold, dirty, delapitated and owner could not be contacted. It was absolutely pot luck (& a kind neighbour) who knew where they left the key and was able to let us in.
I reached Coober Pedy by bus at 7 am and I was prepared to wait for few hours to check in. But the stuff was kind enough to let me check in as soon as they had availability. The same happened during check out too. This was exceptionally comfortable. I underground that flexible timing completely depends on availability, but their willingness to help was outstanding. And facility wise this is the best in Coober Pedy.
The dugout is a real experience
The climate in the apartment is excellent
Ali is a super host, I have visited many of Ali ‘s list of things to do in Coober Pedy
Serbian church, Catholic Church, catacomb church old timers mine, old winch, kangaroo orphanage Josephine, umoona mine museum and the opal shops in Hutchinson street.
Coober Pedy is worth the visit ! Ali’s underground is excellent!
A great experience staying in an underground dugout. Very spacious, we also leant that most underground houses in Coober Pedy are spacious as owners can 'renovate' to get around the mining rules for the town, and build more rooms, thus potentially hitting more opal! The owners were so welcoming and made sure our stay was comfortable. The kids enjoyed the pool!
The underground stay experience was great! The location is on top of a hill with great views back into Coober pedy. The bedroom was massive and bed was comfortable.
Overall I would stay here again as the price is good compared to other accommodation options in town. Would be a great place when renovations are finished.
Excellent property which I would highly recommend to anyone passing through or staying in Coober Pedy.
An absolutely beautiful place underground and extremely spacious with a very good vibe to the place. All areas were clean and overall a very pleasant experience- excellent value for money in my opinion.
We loved it was an underground house. It was spacious and has all mod cons. The house was secure with a gate and plenty of room to park. It had an outdoor entertaining area for those great hot nights. Close to town and a great experience if you are visiting Coober Pedy for the first time.
The room was fantastic I enjoyed it and it very quiet indeed.im enjoyed staying in Coober Pedy I had the best time in the outback Australia looking for opals and going into underground mines around town as well hopefully I'll stay again soon.
The experience of sleeping underground in a well equipped 'cave'.
We also liked the convenience of cutlery, plates, microwave, toaster and kettle in the room.
I was also able to use a DVD player and watch a DVD from the hotels collection.
Coober Pedy is famous for its opals, and this property is another gem :) We had a very pleasant stay here, and found the motel accommodation clean, surprisingly spacious and comfortable. Parking at the door was also a bonus.
The room was underground accommodation......so it was quiet and a constant comfortable temperature. We slept well and Michael provided a varied breakfast to start our day's drive to Alice Springs.
- the host was a great source of information about Coober Pedy and also our onwards journey
- room was well equipped, and having access to a kitchen was nice
- fun sleeping underground
Location was central to town. short walk for dinner options. Room was clean and tidy. Staff were helpful and friendly.
This is recommended for families visiting Coober Pedy
Location was great. Was cool to be staying underground. Enjoyed reading the booklet left out by the host about the history of herself and the cottages,
