Ragusa is an enchanting hill town in rural Sicily.
Ragusa is an enchanting hill town in rural Sicily. It is surrounded by steep gorges, with the town spreading up three steep linked hills. It's a fantastic place to spend a few hours exploring the narrow steep streets. We found some wonderful shops - intended for tourists, but good value. There were also fantastic eateries and the local people we interacted with all seemed charming and helpful. We ate dinner in La Bettola in Ragusa Ibla, which was delicious and great value.

Ragusa has two parts to it, the old and new.
Ragusa has two parts to it, the old and new. The old city is very beautiful and interesting to explore. The main street is fun with restaurants, shops and a park at the end with wonderful views of the valley and mountains beyond. We did not go up the hill to the new city however so we cannot characterize it.

I loved Ragusa, the roads are difficult with a larger vehicle but this shouldn’t put you off just research your routes and think about where accessible parking can be found. The new town is interesting but not touristy whilst the old town is a lovely labyrinth of medieval street and lanes with beautiful Baroque architecture. There are restaurants worth searching for and we particularly enjoyed the ‘5 senses’!

Ragusa Ibla is great for wandering around streets, piazzas,...
Ragusa Ibla is great for wandering around streets, piazzas, visiting the Duomo and churches, and admiring the architecture. There are plenty of places to eat but we found it best to have our main meal at lunch times as many places were fully booked in the evenings. We loved our 3 venue tour - Palazzo Arezzo, the Circolo di Conversazione, and especially Cinabro Carrettieri -artisans still making colourful traditional Sicilian carts.
We took the bus to Modica for a day trip, and another to Scicli, both lovely places. The bus times are not always accurate and bus stops often not easy to locate, but the tourist information office in the centre is helpful and open late.

We loved Ragusa Ibla with all the beautiful crumbling buildings and churches. What an amazing place and Baroque treasure! One of the big surprises to us was that we were able to visit Palazzo Arezzo di Donnafugata and admire all the antique pomp and delicate taste of beauty in the 'Le Tavole dei Gattopardi' exhibition.
We were searching some location near to center but also with easy access to parking. This hotel is 2' from a big parking and from the Ragusa center, San Giovanni and restaurants. Of course it is not in Ragusa Ibla so some walking is needed to reach that part, but there are city bus going down and up the hill. We got a very big room on top of the hotel that is located in a historical palace and had a nice view on roofs. The staff was ready to help and make suggestions for our visits. Breakfast was served in the room
Fico-finestra contemporanea has been one of the best accommodations we stayed until now. Not just in Sicily but in general. A very unique place, that went beyond our expectations. They say you get what you pay for. The price we paid was definitely worth it. Suppremely clean, Marco the host has been very friendly and willing to help. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. As for the location, just 2 minutes walking from the heart of Ragusa. We could easily find free parking very close to the B&B.
We had an exceptional stay at Ad Maiora, totally exceeded our expectations! The hotel itself is an old palace that was renovated in 2019 but still has a lot of quirky character! Rooms are really nicely designed and cosy. It’s perfectly located in Ragusa Ibla short walking distance to most of the main attractions and lovely restaurants and bars. Damiano was a great host, it’s a family run business and they made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was amazing also, would highly recommend!
I have been travelling throughout Sicily for a few weeks but arriving and staying in Ragusa, with Giorgio as my host, has been the best part of my whole time here in this beautiful country. Such a welcome he gave. So I quickly found my feet and relaxed into this gorgeous town in Sicily. Giorgio goes the extra mile, he is generous with his time and a delight to engage with.
The accomodation was perfect. Comfortable, light, spacious and location was superb.
We stayed there only for one night, but can recommend this place. We made a late check in and we had zero issues with contacting the host Silvana via WhatsApp. It must be said that the hosts were extremely kind and gave us a lot of recommendations in regard to Ragusa and other stops in Sicily. The room itself was comfortable and clean, with a fridge. For breakfast there was a nice croissant with jam and another dolce, some fruit and yoghurt.
The hotel is ideally located at the top end of Ragusa Ibla so walking to explore the area is easy - just ten minutes or so to the Duomo and a further few minutes to the Public Gardens at the other end of Ragusa Ibla. There is also a bus stop a few metres from the hotel for journeys to the stations for buses or trains.
The room was spacious and had a balcony with a view of both town and countryside. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
We really appreciated our very helpful host. He brought us a delicious breakfast each morning at the time of our choosing. He gave us many great choices for eating at both uptown and down. The bed was super comfy. The air-conditioning worked well. It was quiet at night. We were well situated to walk to the upper town and close to the gazillion stairs to get to the lower town. Ragusa should not be missed when
traveling in Sicily!
Very good location, easy to park on the street. The room was very nice, high quality. Interesting walking towards to other part of the city with the main attractions and we were able to get back by bus, as advised at the hotel. Breakfast was great, excellent coffee and variety of choices. Ragusa was not on our list for the Sicily Road Trip but I am happy we made the stop there.
The picturestique house was out of this world. It was like we were cloned to baroque times. Very cute, clean and everything you can need was inside the house. Giorgio was a unique host, welcoming and helping us on everything included the parking, showing and telling about the house, even recommended us with a lot of places to visit inside Ibla and outside Ibla in Sicily.
This hotel is in a fabulous location. I am still dreaming about that beautiful view of Ragusa Ibla at night. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was better than I expected considering it's in a tiny space. It was the first place in our 3 week trip in Sicily to offer made-to-order omelettes.
Geographically located in the core of Ragusa Iblea, this B&B allowed us to visit the old town the best possible way. Highly recommended to those who want to visit this area of Sicily.
The staff was very kind and could suggest several tips to make our stay even more pleasant!
Everything!
It’s an apartment with all its amenities, but feels like a hotel. The building is beautifully renovated - all modern, great beds and super location.
The view from the terrace (we stayed in the 2 bed apartment) might be the best of the Ragusa Ibla (see photos)
An excellent location, facilities and service, with a splendid view over Ibla. In addition to these qualities, the anfitrian of Intervallo Boutique Hotel dedicates a rare and unusual attention to its guests and to the space and services of the accommodation.
This B&B is located close to the pedestrian area of Ragusa Ibla. This is the best area for walking and enjoying the beautiful vistas.
Rosita is a very warm and welcoming hostess. Extremely helpful, clearly wants you to enjoy your visit.
the view is simply amazing, best location to stay in Ragusa - you just want to stay in the balcony all the time how fascinating it is (room 01)
room is also spacious, and super clean.
one of the best experiences in Sicily!
Very cute small hotel in the center of Ragusa Ibla. Very close walk to everything. The hosts were nice and made a very good breakfast. It was good to have a hot water pot in the room. Internet worked well.
Beautiful view from terrace of Ragusa ibla. Many stairs to negotiate in town to explore so need to be able to do so. Spacious room and nice host who serves breakfast on terrace
Ragusa Ibla is a longer walk from the train station. Although I'm pretty sure we could have taken the bus, the host graciously picked us up and dropped us back at the station.
