Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.
Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theater, and across the street is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina, whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.
Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining the 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.
Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, an intersection with a fountain in each corner.
Other attractions include the round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodations.
At first, it was a great shock entering the city. So dirty, full of garbage and food waste in the streets. We saw people sleeping on the mattress in front of the church. Nobody cleans after dogs, and even after horses that take tourists for a ride in a carriage.
For dining, we took a wrong turn from the central squre and went down Via Vittorio Emmanuelle in direction of the sea. Wich was a mistake. Lot of fast food eateries, offering more or less same bad menu.
Next 2 days we discovered there are good restaurants (like Salina on Via Maqueda) offering fresh fish, sea shels, shrimps and lobsters. And even street food dining can be a treat (like in Ciurma, again on Via Maqueda). Slowly we started appreciating the charm of the city and it's inhabitants. We had a good time after all.

It was a great stay and I'm happy that I did so.
It was a great stay and I'm happy that I did so. I stayed for one week.
It was pretty. Beautiful buildings. Great food.
But it was also very dirty, it often smelled bad, sightings like the Vucciria or the markets looked much nicer in the promotion pictures, there was no real promenade and I expected the downtown area to be much bigger and to offer more things to do and to see tbh.
Funny side "story":
Got chatted up five times by Italian men, everytime asking me, if I would know where the next Tabacco Shop would be. No matter what you answer they immediately introduce themselves to you with name, age, profession, asking you, where you come from and no matter what you say, they have been there or plan to go there, next month, this year, next year. They all said that it's "good luck" or "common" or "just polite" to ask you for your number or invite you for drinks or dinner. FIVE TIMES, SAME CONVERSATION! At least three wearing wedding rings.
Maybe there's a podcast with the newest trick to chat up women they all follow 😄

A city of friendly people, beautiful, but often run down, historical architecture, many dining options, crazy drivers, lively night life, graffiti and litter (sadly both everywhere).
Well worth a visit. Handy base for doing trips to other places of interest like Cefalu.

Great architecture and food.
Great architecture and food. Mondello beach is fabulous and monte pellogrino is a fun climb. The buses are awful or don’t seem to exist except for the 101/2/4, the 806 to mondello, and the 812 to monte pellogrino - trying to cross the city east/west is seemingly impossible by bus!

There is so much history and beautiful architecture in Palermo and you would need to stay a long time to visit every Church,Museum and tourist site.Generally the local people are very helpful and warm.Like any big city there is a litter problem and quite a lot of grafitti but the beauty of everything else makes up for those issues I think. The public transport is good allowing visits to other parts of the island easy without a car for example Mondello Beach,Cefalu,Monreale just for starters. This is my fourth trip to Sicily and it will not be my last. Was lucky to get tickets for the opera which was beautiful.

A city full of character and history.
A city full of character and history. There are so many cafes & restaurants, one is spoilt for choice. The main attractions are in a pedestrian zone, apart from the odd scooter or horse & cart, so very safe to walk for miles. Any angst of crime should be put to rest, it felt a very safe place to be.
Tourism has given the city a huge boost: Whether churches, cathedrals, Royal Palaces or Opera house - culture is abundant. It was also easy to take a train to Cefalu ( a nice beach location ) . Highly recommended for a long weekend break.
The place is OK, it's comfortable. The room is spacious, the bathroom is huge. We encountered all we needed for a 2-day stay. I enjoyed the little balcony.
IMHO the strongest point about Belle Arti is the location, very near the center, still very quiet, and we felt safe (contrary to other time we stayed in Palermo, we go once in a while since we moved to Sicily 3 years ago). You're inside the Capo quartier, so Mercato del Capo is a stone's throw away.
Perfect location. Easy walk to the port, Palermo Centrale train station and airport bus stop. Also, very close to all the sights and activities in Palermo.
Recommend using city buses to go to Mondello for the beach, and to Monreale for the Cathedral. Maybe a day trip via train to Cefalu, if you have the time.
Giuseppe knows Palermo and does an excellent job in running this small and highly adequate hotel. Thanks/ Merci/ Grazie, Giuseppe!
This apartment is very large and comfortable. It's located in the main area of Palermo on a busy street, which is a lot of fun to explore and convenient for visiting surrounding towns/beaches. The apartment was very clean, and the host was EXCEPTIONAL in his helpfulness. We had never been to Sicily, and he happily answered all of our questions and did his best to assist whenever possible. I would highly recommend this apartment!
location was central and room was very nice, spacious, quiet and comfortable. but best, I have to say the best staff on our one month trip to Sicily. so warm, went out of way to help with travel questions, served super good Italian breakfast with changes every day. All the staff were great and hotel is very nice, yet feels homey. have garden with big mosaic, have a bar for happy hour. near Teatro Massimo( we walked to concert).
Giuseppe provides pure luxury. The interior design and light design are top class. There is an ample amount of space. Even the third bed was of very good quality, wide and suitable for sleeping of an adult. The location is one of the best for exploring Palermo on foot. We found everything we wanted to see to be in walking distance. We even found an official space to park the car on the public road nearby for an affordable price.
Gianni and Monica are lovely hosts. The B&B is newly renovated and modern, spotless, and cheerful. The best bed pillows we’ve ever found in Italy! It is close to many good restaurants and located in one of the main boulevards of Palermo. Breakfast was over-the-top delicious, everyday including new selection of Sicilian pastries, as well as ham, cheese, fruit, and cereal. And of course, espresso and cappuccino and juice.
The lovely women who manage the hotel were incredibly helpful with directions and suggestions for sites to visit. There is a wonderful garden in the back and comfortable sitting area in the front room. We were close to the daily market and walking distance to the historical center of Palermo. For our first time in Sicily, this was a great place to start!
The hotel was in a great location, walking distance to the city center, lots of restaurants close by. The room was very modern, awesome shower and comfortable beds. The breakfast was good. The staff was amazing, extremely friendly and helpful. Awesome gym and the spa, was worth the money. I would stay here again when I come back to Sicily.
The bed was so comfortable, we had the best sleep of our travels around Sicily! The terrace was also lovely which we enjoyed sitting on in the warm evenings. Lastly, the staff were fantastic and allowed us to check in a few hours early so we didn’t need to carry our bags around on our first day in Palermo - much appreciated!
The location was perfect. Really close to the train station and all the sites. There was an amazing restaurant and bar below. Liviana was extremely helpful and even helped call me a cab. She's very knowledgeable about Sicily and made great recommendations for restaurants, things to see and places to go. She's the best!
Location was the best. It was only 20 metres from the maim street. Plus 300m from the Teatro Massimo. Breakfast was okay and was what was expected. We slept okay but the mattress could have been thicker. However, it higher star rated hotels we were in the beds were not any better. It must be standard in Sicily.
Top location 5 mn walk to super convenient airport bus stop, in pedestrian zone, walking distance to all you need to see in Palermo. very nice house, nice room and bathroom, super friendly and efficient staff and owner.
breakfast as good as it gets in most places in Italy.
Quirky boutique Hotel renovated with imagination and style. Perfectly located for exploring Palermo. Charming staff, very helpful. They parked our small camper safely for our stay so we didn’t have to worry about it. Fabulous breakfast. Would highly recommend.
It was the best bed I had in Sicily!
Very comfortable mattress, good size room, friendly staff, very good breakfast, they even have Oat milk!
You have to ask it from the waiter, they have Soya too.
The airport bus station is right there
It is just on the bank of the sea, quiet area but close to the town (20min by bus) , clean and comfortable appartment, nice hosts.
The beach is much cleaner than the rest of Palermo.
It was not a luxury hotel but we loved it.
Hotel is in a central location, close to really nice restaurants and bars. Our room was very clean. We also got very friendly and helpful guidance from Federica. She gave us all the tips not only for Palermo but also for Sicily.
Amazing place. The best place I stayed in my 8 days holidays in Sicily. The most comfortable bed and pillows I have had. A great breakfast in the terrace with a perfect view of the city
I really recommend this hotel
The best of the best places to live in Palermo or sferracavallo. I mean the owner is one of the nicest person we have met in Sicily. The room is beautiful and location is amazing!
